S
itting down to write this month’s editorial is a little bit of a challenge. It’s not because there is little to talk about; it’s because there is too much to talk about. The last several weeks have been nothing but an insane roller coaster from east to west. From what what began as a simple road trip up to Milwaukee for the 115th anniversary, to the never ending road trip back from Vancouver, Washington; rolling across America always proves itself to be uplifting and inspiring.
There will be features coming from this epic Great American Road Trip throughout the course of the next several months, especially leading up to Rockin Route 66 in Tucumcari, NM next June, 2019. GART will actually be a main focus at Grease Inc., not only this year but years to come. See, over the course of the past ten years, there are major changes occurring in the pattern of festivals, rallies, events, shows, etc. With those changes, we are finding amazing hidden treasures on the road while exploring new locations coast to coast. With that said, we are going to share more and more places in America that are still ‘REAL’. She is still alive and you’ll be amazed at the places that you can still feel the heartbeat of America. Though you sometimes you need to look for it, there is truly a sense of what America is and that her colors run deep within the true roots of our country. The epic summer trip began in Atlanta following riders from the Ride Home, hosted at Tomahawk Harley-Davidson at the end of August. I spent a week in Milwaukee, WI at the 115th anniversary of Harley-Davidson, which is an epic story all in itself. We share a little insight of the trip in this issue. Now, after a week working with Cole Freeman and the crew of Illconduct, I met the Fonz right around the corner from the Pabst Theatre to begin the epic Great American Road Trip. The real reason this trip was epic, was the fact that I made it back whole. You’ll soon learn what I mean. From Milwaukee, I had to head to Chicago to the starting point of Route 66, especially since we are creating an event celebrating Route 66 next year. Though the traces of Route 66 are removed, outside of a sign on a side street in Chicago, I was amazed at how many people were stopping to take their pictures with the sign. Chicago is an amazing city. So much life. So much great food and music. I could have stayed a few days in Chicago, but needed to continue to make my way west for next weekend’s show in Albuquerque, NM at Downtown Showdown.
6
From Chicago, the next days were rolling through, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and New Mexico. There are so many stops along the way, some we actually missed because of the time table. We documented a lot and took several short videos that are planned to be released in October to support Route 66. One of the biggest things to remember on these trips is time is flexible and sometimes you need to make the time to experience what real life is all about. Even with 7 days on the road, I made a lot acquaintances, and some new solid relationships. Make sure you look up captured moments on our Instagram @ greaseinc for some unbelievable photos. After another amazing year at Downtown Showdown in Albuquerque, the trip continued west, where it got interesting. Not even 100 miles out of Albuquerque, we lost the transmission to the battle wagon. We took two days in Grant, NM getting her going. From there it was off to Vancouver, Washington. Now, when I say epic, the road trip back was insane. From gremlins attacking sporadically the battle wagon in all aspects, three days were spent on the side of the road between Utah and Wyoming. From fuel filters, to fuel pumps, to sensors, to bad gas, we got it all. Following the hardest three days on the road ever, we made it up and rolling. On the way back we needed some down time and get our juju from the king himself, so we stopped by Graceland to pay our respects. From that point on, Elvis gave us his blessing and watched over us the rest of the trip... We are back! We are ready to rock another Hell on Wheels with all of you!!! Look for all the great announcements and additions to this year’s 10 year anniversary celebrated at Angel City, October 10th-14th. Whether you come for all four days or just one day, we guarantee this will be the event you go back and talk about for years to come!!! Come celebrate with the entire crew. www.hellonwheelsevent.com

What are your secrets to achieving and maintaining that perfect pinup look while demonstrating feats of artistic strength on a 16’ pole? Tiffany Rose: "When I first joined the cast I watched a lot of YouTube tutorials to learn how to do my makeup and victory rolls just right. Now, I get a lot of inspiration from old movies and burlesque stars to keep evolving. One trick to achieving victory rolls is back-combing dirty hair. And a trick to keep my look from fading during an intense show is using finishing spray to set my makeup. My good Irish genes are why my thick hair doesn't seem to move. I can't take any credit for that one, but still thank the universe for it!” Monica Kay is a roller derby girl who pole dances in skates! She is a tattooed comedian and master air brush artist with a background in auto paint. Candace Cane is the youngest company member who hand balances and contorts - at the same time - 16’ in the air! You pose with some extremely valuable cars. What tips can you give new models to earn the trust of car owners and keep their cars safe? Candace Cane: “It's proper etiquette to get permission from the owner - leaning or sitting on the car, opening the door, sitting inside. Make sure your body or wardrobe doesn't have anything sharp that could scratch or damage the vehicle. I would also avoid stepping on the seats especially wearing heels, as it can puncture the interior.” Monica Kay: "It is rare that you will see me sitting on top of a classic car. I just don't want to risk denting the metal or scratching the paint. When I model with a classic, you will most often see me either standing, kneeling, sitting, leaning on, or backbending next to the car. If I ever get a classic, it will be a '60-'66 GMC pickup truck!" Tonya Kay: “Always always ask first! No oil on the body, no snaps/zippers/jewelry/keys near the car. Shoes OFF inside the car. If the car has white interior, like mine, ask for a cloth or cover to sit on - even the dye from your skirt will stain light interiors and steam cleaning is $200 a pop. Know where the frame of a car is - study it if you want to be a good model. The frame can hold your weight, where the open areas risk denting. Pinup Pole Show company members have gotten to pose with cars and in ways other models don't because of our respect for the machine. Rawrrr!”

by Brian "Big Boy" Whitcomb Live photos are by Brian “Big Boy” Whitcomb at Angel City Promo photos are by Becky Little Tell us a little on how Andrea and Mud met and how you created your Americana Duo MM: Apparently we had been within 15 feet of each other at every show I had been to in the last three or four years. Our buddy and former drummer, Mike Adkison, finally introduced us at a Legendary Shack Shakers show. AC: When I finally got him to come over (OTP!!) and play music with me, we traded a few songs and both knew instantly that this was supposed to happen together. I was like, “SEE, I told you you should come play music with me!!”. The first song he played of his was “Dark River”. I loved it obviously since it was one of the first ones that we recorded for our first album, Easy, Sleazy and Greazy. And he even let me write a verse. The one about walking back to the trailer, duh. What’s the inspiration of your music? MM: Life and imagining what life is like for others. Corny answer, I know. AC: I think the obvious inspiration is the sleazier side of life: dive bars, unorthodox professions like prostitution, drinking booze, and other interesting vices, things like that. It’s an easy, sleazy, greazy fantasy world in my head I guess. I mean, we don’t live in a trailer, although I surely could, and I’ve never gotten so drunk that I fell off a train or played someone’s flute for money but it’s fun to write about. I love the messed up characters in our songs. There’s a few new ones on the new album too. Who hasn’t always wanted to hear a catchy little song about a used car salesman?? If that’s what he really is... What role does your music lend to the Atlanta music scene? AC: We think that we might be the only nationally touring country band in Atlanta at the moment and we’d really like to bring back the
16
live music scene. It seems like it has fallen off everyone’s radar over the years, but we fully intend on bringing it back as strong as ever. Back in the day, our musical peers and mentors led the Redneck Underground, and we want to create that again. I, unfortunately, was not here at that time and would have been illegal, but I still love those guys and the music that they make. They really inspire a lot of what we do. That’s why you’ll hear the term Hillbilly Underground from us a lot. We want to see the smaller venues thrive rather than the big amphitheaters and places that charge hundreds of dollars a ticket. Most of the best shows I’ve ever seen cost $10 at Star Bar. And the sweat dripping off J.D. Wilkes’ face is free! MM: We are reminding the old-timers that it’s about bringing a new edge to something familiar and teaching the newbies it’s not about playing the same damn songs as everybody else. We are working very hard to build the roots scene here without making it about your trendy pocket watch and 1938 vest; it’s about being a hardworking American that’s in tune with music about the reality of living life in a southern metropolitan city. What is your current favorite song? Why? MM: Honestly, my favorite song is one of ours that will be released next year sometime. BUT for this purpose, “Lord, Mr. Ford” by Jerry Reed... J.R.’s attitude on a sociopolitical commentary (still relevant today) with the Jerry Reed funky twang. AC: Soooo many... but for some reason Ray Price’s “Crazy Arms” is my freakin jam lately. And also “Three Days” by Willie Nelson and Ricky Nelson’s “Lonesome Town.” I love the old stuff. We both do and I think that’s why we work so well together. And yes, Jerry Reed is God.
greaseinc.com | OCTOBER 2018
What has been so far your most memorable moment? MM: Thinking 120˚F weather was going to kill us and the van somewhere around Needles, AZ on I-40. NOT FUN. It is confirmed that the eastern half of the Mojave desert is actual hell. AC: Hard to pick one since there’s been so many over the past year. Playing at Variety Playhouse with Whitey Morgan was a very big recent one for us. That stage... That sound... Amazing. Also being nominated for an Ameripolitan Music Award last year and getting to go to the ceremony and rub elbows with some of our favorite musicians like Junior Brown, James Hand, Jim Heath of Reverend Horton Heat, and Nikki Lane, among others, this past February was unreal. Where do you believe the creativity comes from? MM: Hard livin’, and hardworkin’. Some people are addicted to Rx’s, alcohol, all sorts of shit; I’m addicted to making stuff and traveling. That’s my creative drive. AC: To quote one of our favorite musicians, Scott H. Biram: “Red wine, a little smoke, and a whole lot of lovin’!”. Traveling also. We’ve seen so many new places recently that have blown our minds. Look out for a truck driving album some day! Well, maybe a sexy van driving album since we’re currently cruisin’ around in a ‘87 Ford Econoline Clubwagon. But, mostly when I write or get a melody, I have no idea where it comes from. When I’m driving alone or trying to fall asleep usually they’ll just pop in there. Not trying to sound like Nostradamus or anything, I think there’s just little pockets in my brain that hold onto things I love but maybe forgot about and releases it when I least expect it. Whoa. That was deep. Who have been your influences over the year? MM: Jenny Don’t and the Spurs, Bonnie Montgomery, Summer Dean, Rob Leines, Elijah Ocean, National Reserve, Charlie Crockett, etc. Old
GREASE INC. MAGAZINE
stuff? I’ve been on a Johnny Paycheck kick for the last couple of months after learning about how nuts the guy was. Always Junior Brown. Always Jerry R. Hubbard, Ray Charles, Loretta.... AC: Yes, what he said! Dwight Yoakam and Junior Brown are probably the biggest influences to both of us. Junior Brown does the Surf Western thing that we are going for and you just can’t beat the Bakersfield sound. I’m also trying to encourage Mud to be influenced by Dwight’s jeans! I think it’s working. The Wranglers keep getting tighter and more vintage. I love that. New stuff: Not that Dwight and Mr. Brown aren’t still making music but there’s a lot of stuff that we’ve been turned onto recently that just makes us want to dance and sometimes cry. I like doing both. Our friends Bonnie Montgomery and Summer Dean probably have my most played new albums right now. It’s not just cuz they’re two of my best gals, either. I really love what those women are doing. Our tour out west in July was SO much fun and I genuinely love their music and outlooks on life. Definitely check them out. Gotta thank Uncle Dale [Watson] and his Ameripolitan Awards for bringing us together. Where is the duo heading next? MM: Intergalactic Space travel using sonic energy from only fender amps. New album coming soon, a cool weekly thing in the works, live music video in the works, touring like madmen, face tattoos, Hedonistic rituals.... AC: Oh lord. Well, he’s right about a few of those. We are back in the studio to work on our next album at the end of September and still touring the country as much as possible. Both of those things are extremely addicting to us so we’re hoping that means that we will just keep cranking out new music and playing in new places. Look for the new album next Spring!

115th Year Celebration Harley-Davidson - Milwaukee, WI
It is amazing how one is to preserve a name and brand for 115 years. Harley-Davidson has achieved that benchmark with many years of success, even during several trying times. It was amazing to be part of such a celebration. We met travelers from all over the world, including China, Mexico, Great Britain, Guam, Germany, and France. The mix was over 50% international travelers vs. American travelers. Why is that? We were provided a behind-the-scenes tour through the Harley-Davidson Museum and were let into the actual archives of Harley-Davidson. We received some of the best hospitality by Harley-Davidson as we walked the property with the Born Free folks, while displaying some of their top picks at this year’s celebration, sponsored by Sailor Jerry Rum. The crew of Grease Inc. and Garage71 were set up next to the main stage with Illconduct Stunt Team, an all Harley-Davidson world class dare devil thrill team. Milwaukee, itself, was a great time. We hung out with special guests and attendees of Sailor Jerry, Cheap Thrill’s Oliver Peck, Jessie James Dupree, and so many more! We got to see Reverend Horton Heat and the Supersuckers on the Main Stage, while enjoying some good rum and Rocky Patel cigars after hours. Big shout out to Dump Truck for his gracious compliments, as we look forward to returning for years to come at Harley-Davidson. Congratulations on 115 years. May you achieve many more decades of success.

Ride Home at Tomahawk H-D
This is the 5th year of Rockabilly Rumble at Southern Devil Harley-Davidson. Over the years, we see our scene change, and this was one of the moments best captured. We are back to centering our routines around family. We were thrilled to see 4 generations participating and enjoying the Rockabilly Rumble. From Mommy & Me, to the BMX riders, to Drift Trike Racing, Hot Rods, Motorcycles, and music by Slim and the Gems, and the Tremors, this was one heck of a good time! We want to thank everyone who rolled out for this fun event. We are already working on the 6th annual Rockabilly Rumble presented by Grease Inc. and Garage71. We want to thank all the hot rodders who came out, and a huge shout out to all the Mommies and “Little Ones” who spent the day having a blast with us. Whether dancing, playing, or just sitting back to listen to some of the best regional Rockabilly bands, it was an awesome day and a rockin’ good time!

ell on Wheels is dedicated to all the motorheads, greasers, and pin-ups out there! 10 years in the making, Hell on Wheels was created to celebrate years gone by on the race track, turning wrenches, listening to loud rock n roll, taking care of our ladies and families, and having a great time dancing the night away!
We cannot believe it's been 10 years that Garage71 and Grease Inc. have been rocking the southeast and now nationwide! The crew has worked hard over the years trying to provide the information you want from band interviews, tricks of the trade, up close and personal Q&A's with builders, event coverage, and keeping history alive. From on-air at Garage71, to being live at events, from print and on-line with Grease Inc., we live the Kustom Kulture Lifestyle... Garage71 and Grease Inc. magazine is a kulture! The crew here is all about the 'gear head' scene from music, turn wrenches, life style, art, pinups, hot rods/rat rods, motorcycles, bobbers, tattoos, and the life style. The crew dedicates themselves to being builders, entertainers, artists, and DJ's. We live the scene daily and want to bring it to life in print and on-air. Garage 71 Radio Station is geared to all motorheads alike. This station covers all your favorites from Rockabilly to wrench bending Garage Rock. Tune in to our feature shows including: Reverend Andy's Psychobilly Freakout, EAV Rudio, Psychoholic Extravaganza, Rockabilly and Blues with Jammin James, Friday Night's Junkyard with Stretch, Tabernacle Sundays, and so much more!!! Garage 71 is your “American Radio Revolution”!!! Grease Inc. Magazine is your Atlanta print source for motorcycles, pinups, hot rods, rat rods, music, and the “Kustom Kulture.” Every month Grease Inc. will cover features on local artists and builders. The crew gets behind the scene details from your favorite local and national music acts! The Grease Inc. crew promotes local shops and events. We enjoy hanging out, participating and providing insight for upcoming acts and where to go & what to do. “You see us on the street, you hear our music and now you can take us with you!" We want to thank everyone who has supported us through this amazing road trip and journey. The roads have made several turns, and we definitely have gone off track a few times, but we always seem to get back on the road. We look forward to the next decade of stories, good times, and opportunities ahead. Let’s get to it now! It's time for Hell on Wheels!!!

POISON WHISKEY BIO
Poison Whiskey is a hard-driving party rock band that plays classic and hard rock favorites from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s with a few originals as well. We are a high energy rock band that loves to get the crowd involved in our shows. We have many decades of live performance, writing, and recording experience.
Mustang Sally BIO
Get ready for the ride of your life! When you attend a Mustang Sally show, you are transported away from everyday life and into the world that Mustang Sally inhabits: a world where dancing on the bar is encouraged, and spontaneity is king. People are transformed from spectators into participants through interactive songs both edgy and sincere. The Mustang Sally Band name and brand has become synonymous with must-see entertainment. Mustang Sally has performed alongside high profile names such as Montgomery Gentry, Gretchen Wilson, Big & Rich, and Blake Shelton, in addition to being demanded worldwide as fair and festival headliners, receiving a standing ovation at the Kickin' Up Kountry Festival in Thief River Falls, MN, and playing to sold out crowds at the Havelock Country Jamboree in Havelock, Ontario. They routinely perform over 200 dates a year, and have toured the U.S. from coast to coast, as well as Europe and Asia. At the time of the on-line release of their debut self-titled album on GMG/ Universal Records, the ladies were featured in Country Weekly Magazine and gave the magazine staff a private concert.

McPherson Struts Bio
Since the release of their critically-acclaimed debut album “Top Fuel Boogie” in 2001, McPherson Struts have been tearin' up the road playing their brand of punk-infused country rock. Known for their over-the-top stage antics, unique set-up (stand-up drummer/singer) and often hilarious lyrics, the Struts have left a trail of rabid fans in their wake. With the release of the “Shocker” EP in 2005 and “The Gear-jammin', Door-slammin', Nitro-burnin' Genius of McPherson Struts” in 2009, and the release of "Slam Bang” in 2012 they have proved that the road never ends. Guitarist Devin Williams' love for fuzzed-out garage rock, along with Buck McPherson's affinity for '50s and '60s rockabilly/surf and Jeff Freeman's punk-inspired bass attack combine for what Atlanta's Creative Loafing magazine describes as “A delightfully deranged country/punkabilly trio. These guys are like Jason and the Scorchers, scattered, smothered and covered with the Circle Jerks.”

Southern Ska Syndicate Bio
Southern Ska Syndicate is ready to get the party started with their mix of classic ska and rocksteady sounds guaranteed to get you skanking on the dance floor! With members from all around the United States and veterans of other bands, Southern Ska Syndicate brings the rebel spirit of 1960's Jamaican music to you! Despite being banned from performing in Mongolia, the band's high energy and positive vibe can't be brought down.
Andrea Colburn & Mud Moseley:
Andrea Colburn and Mud Moseley sound like a panther screaming in the middle of the night, like a band of gypsies at a tea party, like a carefully curated hullabaloo held in a Wild West funeral home. Like Doc Watson and the Cramps had a heinous love child. Just as much influenced by Willie Nelson, Tom Waits, and Hank Williams Sr. as new Country acts such as Colter Wall and the Deslondes, Colburn & Moseley keep somewhat of a traditional country and blues feel all while giving it their own haunting, part Piedmont, part psychobilly spin. The duo plan on bringing their own brand of bad to a town near you this year. Part Flat Duo Jet, part Bonnie and Clyde, this is not a performance that you will want to miss. Just maybe don’t stand in the front row.
Captain and Maybelle
Captain and Maybelle have become household names. “A shock and a laugh is what you get from us! We are partners in crime and focused on taking over the world. Performing classic sideshow entertainment with a contemporary twist and delivering zingers and stingers is what we do best! You can call him a sword swallower, human blockhead or fire breather; I call him the mister. You just call me Maybelle; we’ll get along fine! You may have caught our act at Ripley’s Believe It or Not!, on “America’s Got Talent” Season 6, Six Flags Over Georgia’a Annual Fright Fest, “Atlanta & Co.”, “The Soup”, Coney Island’s Sideshows by the Seashore or a myriad of other equally impressive opportunities.”
Lonely Highway Bio
A six piece country band located right outside of Jacksonville, FL with a desire to be heard in every home in America. Check us out on iTunes, Spotify, and other popular music avenues. Thank you for all of your support.

Pearl Bottom Radio
Pearl Bottom Radio are an American rock band. Based just south of Atlanta, Ga, drawing influences from the likes of Kings Of Leon, Lucero, Queens of the Stone Age, and Sturgil Simpson, they have crafted their own brand of music that blends it all together. Playing shows and recording music as often as possible, Pearl Bottom Radio are already demoing new material for the next release. With 2 videos under their belt for “Knife Fight” and “Beer Song”, there is no sign of slowing down any time soon. If you like a good time, then this is your soundtrack.
Little Lesley & the Bloodshots
Lesley started the band with her husband Brian “Swifty” Swift, a punk-rockn-roll veteran and ex-cowboy from Nevada. After touring the west coast for years in an original punk band together, Swifty began experimenting with different guitar tones and styles. He came up with a killer rockabilly sound that inspired Lesley to drop her then metal project and learn double bass to back him up. But after immersing herself in the style, she quickly reunited with her childhood roots of singing and playing classic country and early rock n roll tunes. Brian was so impressed with her ability, he encouraged her to sing lead. The couple continued honing their sound and found drummer Bobby Lee, a retired police officer and Staten Island native, on craigslist.
Angela Reign
As an award-winning artist in the rock, country, pop and EDM genres, Angela has headlined major venues across the globe and supported A-list artists on tour. In addition to her own headline concerts, Angela regularly provides entertainment for major sporting events (e.g., NCAA Final Four Championship, Chick Fil A Peach Bowl) and supports a number of benefit events each year for children’s organization, the military and organizations supporting medical research. Angela also performs the National Anthem or God Bless America at NFL, MLB, NBA, NASCAR, PBR and NCAA sporting events.
