all is here! Cooler nights. Clear skies. The beginning of changing scenery. A great time to be in the southeast. October is always one of our favorite months of the year. The Kustom Kulture seems to come to life! Some of the most amazing car and motorcycle shows happen and in many we are included. With that said, we want to thank the local scene. We have enjoyed yet another great anniversary and Hell on Wheels. We appreciate all the years of support and inclusion in your events and business. We strive every day to play as a role model to our local community and value each aspect of our scene coast to coast. This next year is going to be one for the books! We are excited about all the new additions taking place and all we can say now is you are going to be excited too! Though Atlanta is home base for us, we are hitting the road again and planning some amazing trips that we enjoy sharing. The people we get to meet are amazing. The shows we partner with are top notch. The road trips are epic and life changing... This month look for us at some great traditions and some new twists. We will be back at one of our favorite rallies, Angel City. We will be hosting a killer Halloween Party at Porterdale Bar and Grill. We are scheduled for travel to Biketoberfest once again and look forward to enjoying some of the best riding weather all year long. Make your way up through the Georgia Mountains and hit the Blue Ridge Parkway. While you are up in the hills, make a stop at our friends in Brevard, NC at Oskar Blues Brewery. They are always there with a smile and a beer! Thank you again for another amazing year! We look forward to sharing many more with you! Keep up with us on-line at www.garage71. comand follow us on Instagram @GreaseInc.

y name is Emanuel SandÊn and I’m from Sweden I build hotrods in Sweden but i went over to Texas for vacation and i found a barn find in arkansas that has been sitting since 1957,A Ford model A five window de luxe coupe, a kid got the car in 1957 he drove around the yard and blow the engine so the put the car in the barn and there its been sitting until this year. There where a tree growing up in front of the barn that had to use a dozer to get the car out. I borrowed my friends storage place and borrowed a 110v welder and with

a sheep grinder and some small amount of tools and a big knowledge a started the project. I boxed the original frame dropped it 4 inch over the frame, chopped the roof 4 inch lowered the car with a 4 inch dropped front axle, cross over steering, rear is a 10 bolt Chevy with 3.43 gears and limited slip in a homemade 4-link with coil overs, the engine is a rebuilt Chevy 350 bored 0.30 over (355cui) 10:1 whit a race cam and an old X1 intake with 6 carbs and an msd ignition 325hp, transmission is a T56 a 6 - speed

9

Feature Ride: Model A Hot Rod standard with 0.50 overdrive in last gear. This car i built to be a fast and good driver car on the streets a real hotrod. NO ITS NOT A RAT! Its build to look like an old hotrod that has been sitting for a long time. The grill is from a chevy-32 with a insert grill from an old commercial truck that you can open and close for driving in cold weather. Front headlights are made in Burbank, Cal 1947-1955 the name is Shalda, the rims are Chevy -51 with custom made rear rims the center pic is from chevy-51 and the ring is from a ford truck made the rim one inch wider. Everything on this car is built by me in only 6 weeks in Texas in a storage with hardly no tools. Made i USA buy a guy from Sweden on vacation. I just finished the hotrod the day before steel in motion in NC. I’m going to take the car for a big trip cross USA on road 66 in September 2015

reheat oven to 350°F and spray a 9” pie pan with baking spray. In a large bowl beat butter and sugar together until combined, then add egg and vanilla and stir them in. Stir in flour, graham cracker crumbs and baking powder. Divide the dough in half. Press half the dough in the bottom and up the sides of the prepared pie pan. Evenly spread the Marshmallow Creme over the bottom crust. Separate chocolate squares and place on top of the Marshmallow Creme. Place 1 cup of marshmallows on top. Using the remaining crust, pat sections of dough on top of and around all the marshmallows (they will still show through and that is great!). Sprinkle with 1/4 cup chocolate chips, then bake 20 minutes until lightly browned. Remove pan from oven and set it on a wire rack. Cool and enjoy :)

tepping back as an outsider, the Kustom Kulture is often looked at as “Rebels Without a Cause. Yet, it is generally the opposite. We are a kulture that has no boundaries and adhere to a stricter code of ethics and American based values. That said, Suavecito is a name recognized within the kulture and an innovator of pure style. 21

“Suavecito Pomade committed itself early on to becoming a cultural phenomenon. It is not enough for us to have traditional well-crafted grooming products that work. Instead we wanted to take things a step further and dive into the custom car, motorcycle, tattoo, and barber culture as a way to reinvent the grooming product industry that had become stagnant in the previous decades.” Today, we introduce to modern class a new line of product that steps out of the box of the sub-kulture to a great line

with a gentlemen’s touch. We give you Suavecito Premium Blends. The new line of Suavecito elevates the brand with a touch of class. “This premium Hair Pomade contains nourishing ingredients like Lanolin Oil, Coconut Oil, Jojoba Seed Oil, and Lavender Oil to make your grooming experience a healthy and enjoyable one. These fine NATURAL ingredients were carefully researched and picked to not only keep your hair in place all day, but to nourish it as well, with a healthy hold and healthy shine. KOFFIN KATS

Interview by Erin RadioFox Watson

33

A

lthough we’re well into the new Millennium, there is something about being in the middle of nowhere, temperatures breaking 100 degrees with no A/C, no creature comforts, except beer on ice and a grill that has cooked everything from corn on the cob to cheap steak nearby, that really brings you back to basics. Everybody around is in the same, almost miserable, spot...sweaty, half drunk in order to forget how hot it is, and every bit of us are ready for the next band to step up on stage to continue the path to us forgetting how STUPID HOT it is. I’m lovingly referring to The Smoke Out Bike Rally in Rockingham , N.C. Which despite it being held in the hottest month of the year, is such a good time!! Now that you have the backdrop

34

for the story, let’s jump in!! To a pool... Gah! That would’ve been great...ok, enough with the hot talk. I got the phone call that the Koffin Kats had pulled into the speedway and were going to come meet up right after they loaded their gear for sound check. As I saw them walking over, I thought to myself, these guys totally carry themselves like badasses would, but had the biggest smiles on which made them so much cooler. We head to the RV so it’s somewhat quiet enough for the audio interview and immediately start talking about the last 24 hours of their lives. They had literally just gotten back to the states from their 8th European Tour from Italy to Switzerland, Germany to Slovakia, and drove straight to the gig. I asked if they were jet lagged at all

GREASE INC. MAGAZINE | greaseinc.com | OCTOBER 2015

and they jokingly said ‘it was too soon to tell’. I’ve heard stories about Europeans being more receptive and easier to please than Americans when it came to American Bands, and I asked them how they felt about it...”We had to work our way up in Europe the same as we had to in the States, the only thing that helped open the door for us was back when our first album was released, we were lucky enough to have a couple tracks in a compilation cd released in Germany, so people were already familiar with us by the time we made it over there, which was about six years later. You know, we still had some sleeper shows (which are playing for 20 people or less, like, just the bartender)” Vic Victor, lead singer and upright bass player, said. So, six years it took them to get to Europe, I wondered how long they had been a band...”12 years. June 3rd was our ‘Bandiversary’. Being with guys that long, you assume they must be close... Do you consider yourself brothers? Vic responded, “We’ve all pretty much grown up together, Eric Walls, drummer, and I have been in bands together since High School. Johnny Kay, lead guitar, went to a different school and played in other bands, but still shared the stage with us...we’re from the Metro Detroit Area (Garden City and Livonia), so, we’re either brothers or lovers!” With all of them having a wife or girlfriend, we can cross one of those options off the menu. “Although, it all goes hand in hand, because my brother is the merch guy.” Eric says. “Look at him! (and we all stare out the RV window at his baby faced brother) Do you know why we call him Cutie Pie? (I said because he looked

22) He’s almost 30!” And whenever you get the chance to talk to these guys, ask Cutie Pie for a smoothie. wink wink. And speaking of smoothies, I asked them to get a little more close and personal by requesting them to tell me the craziest thing that happened to them on tour. We joked that all you have to say is ‘alcohol’ and BAM! There’s your story, but after a few seconds of deciding which one to choose, Vic speaks up and talks about the last time they were going across the Swiss border...”you always hope for the best, but expect the worst (and here I thought it was ‘prepare for the worst, hope for the best’...eh, close enough!) so, we had barely had any sleep because we’d been drinking all night at the club we played, and I’m

38

still drunk and they look all of us up and down and point to the garage where you pull your vehicle for inspection. They ask all of us to step out, line us up, go through all of our bags for drugs, which by the way you should never travel with, and they look at me and say probably the only English words they know... Weed? Amphetamines? and I’m like, No! Alcohol!! I just start unbuckling and getting ready for a cavity search.” Their poison? Vodka. After extensive Scientific research, KK has decided that vodka leaves you feeling pretty alright. But, if you do find yourself with a hangover, and also in Finland, the cure is Sauna. So much so that Vic is building a plywood box with a stove in his backyard. (We then make a crack about it being

natures sauna right outside the door). I get that this is probably a generic question, but I really like knowing musical backgrounds...who influenced them? In or outside the home? Johnny quickly speaks up. “My dad worked in radio for twenty five years. He was the creative director for a country station in Detroit. So, I grew up around all Country stars, like Willie Nelson, Alabama, Conway Twitty. Was in yearly band class, started my first Metallica and Motley Crue cover band when I was 8.” Since we were on the subject of today’s Country music... and there wasn’t a whole lot to be said, other than the fact that it wasn’t the real deal, but crossover pop b.s. “Record labels and radio stations aren’t the same

39

as they used to be. Everyone is money driven and afraid of change.” Vic adds “That’s where the internet comes in to play. Bands, artists, musicians, all have a chance now to do it on their own.” And like KK, touring non stop, building that connection with fans is what keeps you around for years. “Instead of being a superficial celebrity, you’re a human being.” John agrees and adds, “The old ways of a radio disc jockey is a lost art...going to record stores, picking out albums, listening to them cover to cover, playing the songs on air, talking about it, naming the members of the band, making that connection between listeners and musician...all of that has been replaced by generic robots.” All of this was written in one of their tracks, Giving Blood, off their latest album.

40

I’m telling you, like the observation I made at the beginning, these guys are rockstars, but still have a humbleness about them and credit all of their success to hard work and most importantly their fans, and through all the ups and downs, buying a crap van that’s glued and screwed together with money they put in extra hours at a day job for...and still keeping a smile on their faces. It’s inspiring. It’s a business model up and coming bands, or bands that are close to shutting down should follow. They have so much energy on and off stage, and work so well together, it’s a band we’ll be seeing for years to come, with or without celebrity recognition. A few cool dudes in a huge world of not so cool ones. It all comes back down to the basics...good times without all the fluff.

T

hings you need to know and think about before coloring your hair, from a 10 year Master Colorist- ME!

Coloring your hair for the first time can be more than intimidating. I always recommend having it done professionally! I am going to share a few insider tips that can help you take the plunge!

44

GREASE INC. MAGAZINE | greaseinc.com | OCTOBER 2015

1. Book a consultation appointment to meet with the colorist beforehand if you are unsure of the quality of the stylists’ work. This will help the stylist determine the amount of time they need to block off their schedule and give them an idea of what they are working with. 2. Use Pinterest and other social media to save images you like or would like to eventually achieve. (Be realistic though, you won’t look like beyonce.. ever!) Pictures are always helpful to both parties! 3. Always tell the colorist what you absolutely DO NOT like. They can make better decisions for your color formula the more they know! If you hate warm tones like golds etc. make that clear! 4. If you haven’t ever colored then I suggest you start out with a semi-permanent or a subtle change. Neither of us want you to be shocked and hate you’ve made a dramatic change you weren’t ready for. 5. F or heaven’s sake you HAVE to use a professional shampoo and conditioner after you have your hair colored. If you’ve never colored your hair then this is all new territory for you, but it’s important. Spend the money and you will be glad you did. The color job will last longer, I promise. I hope these few brief tips have helped someone make the major decision to color their hair. Yes, it will change your life! Coloring your hair can help you vamp up your look with ease. Making the decision on what color is the hardest part!
