Community Concierge Program Marks Three Years

The Greater Green Bay Chamber launched the Community Concierge Program in 2021 to support businesses through the hiring process and assist new talent relocating to Northeast Wisconsin to live and work. The last three years have brought growth and transformation to the program with the number of people and companies supported on the rise.

“One of the most notable and exciting shifts we have seen through the Community Concierge Program is the diversification of the companies using the program to support their talent. By continuing to build strong relationships in the community, we are able to support candidates, new hires and their families from more industries than ever before,” said Morgan Doshi, director of talent.

The Community Concierge Program enters its third year with a new model that offers an opportunity for local employers to go “All IN” by investing in their talent both personally and professionally. From prospective candidate to a family adjusting to life in Green Bay, our vast array of services aims to make everyone feel connected.

The Community Concierge Program offers an immersive experience for candidates, new hires and their families to discover Greater Green Bay, through the signature customized tours. These unparalleled experiences are uniquely crafted based on what is most important to the individual or family and have helped hundreds of people jumpstart their engagement in the community. Companies can also invest in group trolley tours tailored to create a team bonding experience and further connect employees.

“I was so excited to interview for my dream job at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College. But moving is more than a new job--it’s about finding a new home and learning a new community. Thanks to the Community Concierge Program, my husband and I learned about Green Bay and the surrounding area. We began to see ourselves in this new life and felt excited about the future. The Concierge Program definitely made the transition much easier for us.”

Dr. Kristen Raney, President of NWTC

IN DIVIDUALIZED SUPPORT

The Community Concierge Program provides wraparound support that extends beyond the individual to the entire family, including accompanying partners. The program actively works with new hires in housing research, rental support and introductions to schools, childcare services, places of worship and other community amenities based on personal interests.

The new Community Connector Network pairs new residents with like-minded professionals to provide guidance, support and a warm welcome. Whether talent is seeking local recommendations, advice on navigating the area, or simply looking to build new relationships, our connector network is here to ensure they feel right at home in Greater Green Bay.

6 Collective IMPACT | Issue 2 2024

“My Community Connector was able to share so much about the school system, questions I had, things that are up and coming in Green Bay that I wasn’t aware of and could really speak to certain areas of Green Bay that really match my interests. So now, as I’m looking ahead to where me and my family may move, I have a much better idea of what parts of Green Bay I’d love to be in.”

IN CLUSIVE SOCIALS

Our community socials offer a welcoming space where both new and established professionals can come together, share experiences and forge meaningful relationships. These gatherings continue to provide a supportive network that empowers individuals to thrive in their community.

We hold an annual Home for the Holidays event, monthly coffee gatherings for accompanying partners and fun community socials throughout the year!

“The people in attendance had kind, genuine hearts AND desires, to connect not for personal gain but to learn who I was. They had a desire to exchange thoughts and experiences, ideas and struggles. I had so many amazing conversations that filled me up! I wish every day could be that inspiring!”

As we look to the future of the Community Concierge Program, our focus remains on supporting employers with their talent attraction and integration efforts and hope our partners see a positive return on retention as a result.

“We are extremely grateful for our business and community partners, as the work we do wouldn’t be possible without them,” said Doshi. “It’s through their continued support that we are confident the Concierge Program will continue to grow and impact the lives of people from all over the world who call Greater Green Bay home.”

Community Brand Supports Local Employers

Choosing a place to live and work is one of the biggest decisions a person makes in life. With no one-size-fitsall option, it comes down to a range of factors including job opportunities, local culture, school districts, housing and more.

For three years, Your Move Green Bay has been making that decision easier for those considering a move to Greater Green Bay. The community brand was created to address the current and future talent needs in our area as a one-stop resource for interested candidates and local employers.

“When an employee is relocating for a job, it is the company’s role to share their story and values,” said Emily Bangen, talent attraction manager at the Greater Green Bay Chamber. “It is our role through Your Move Green Bay to introduce them to the community. We help them envision what their life outside of work would look like here in Greater Green Bay.”

A newly revitalized website launched last fall features a cost of living calculator, comprehensive breakdown of area K-12 education, a community hub with diverse business resources and employer toolkit for simple brand utilization. Individuals searching for employment can also submit their information to get recruited by local employers with open positions.

In the last six months, the Your Move Green Bay website has had 11,300 views with 345 views on the Community Hub page and 384 views on the Get Recruited page.

“By taking a proactive and comprehensive approach to talent attraction, Your Move Green Bay can help ensure that Greater Green Bay remains an attractive destination for skilled workers and innovators in the years to come,” said Melinda Morella-Olson, senior director of sustainability products at Breakthrough

and co-chair of the Talent Taskforce.

The Talent Taskforce is made up of community partners all with a vested interest in the talent attraction efforts of Your Move Green Bay, including Christian Steier, vice president of ProSolutions, Inc.

“I made a lot of new connections and met a number of new business leaders, which was important for me since I’ve only been in my role for five years,” said Steier.

With communities around the country all competing for the same candidates, Your Move Green Bay represents a creative and collaborative approach to set our area apart. With new resources in the planning stages, taskforce members are excited for what is to come with this community brand.

“Your Move Green Bay will keep the ‘pulse of the community’ and ensure we are all engaged in the growth of our area,” said Steier. “Company leaders in the Green Bay area need to be invested in our community to help develop a strong and diverse workforce that ensures the longevity of the local economy.”

“Your Move Green Bay will keep THE ‘PULSE OF THE COMMUNITY’ and ensure we are all engaged in the GROWTH OF OUR AREA.”

Attracting Educators to Greater Green Bay

Employers search for creative ways to reach qualified candidates about job opportunities and often find themselves in competition with others in their industry also seeking to hire the same talent. Instead of going against each other, eight area school districts have come together to target educators around the Midwest in a coordinated effort called the Education Recruitment Campaign.

“In recent years, the pool of potential candidates for open positions has been getting smaller and smaller. We face the same challenges as our neighboring districts when it comes to recruiting new teachers for our open positions,” said Scott Fritz, superintendent of Kewaunee School District.

“We hope this partnership helps us expand our reach for potential candidates beyond the traditional methods to a wider area across the state and increases the number of candidates that show interest in our teaching vacancies.”

Your Move Green Bay launched the first Education Recruitment Campaign in 2022 as an innovative strategy to recruit educators. The digital crossplatform approach funded by the participating school districts and a grant from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation runs for eight weeks in partnership with local marketing agency, KHROME.

The Education Recruitment Campaign targets candidates in metro areas of neighboring states including the Twin Cities, Cook County, Illinois and Menominee, Michigan.

Tactics include geo-fencing recruitment fairs, installing tracking pixels on school career pages and developing personalized 90-second videos that highlight individual

school districts. LinkedIn Recruiter is also used for positions with specific language and certification requirements.

“This is the first year that Algoma School District is part of the Greater Green Bay Chamber’s Education Recruitment Campaign. As a small school district, we face many challenges when it comes to recruiting new teachers. By having this partnership, we are able to have a broader reach of potential teachers that would be interested in relocating to Algoma and working in our fantastic school district,” said Jesse Brinkmann, superintendent of Algoma School District.

The number of area school districts participating in the Education Recruitment Campaign increases every year. Green Bay Area Public Schools has made the investment all three years.

“Even though we are a single employer, we are part of a larger community and the opportunity to partner with the Education Recruitment Campaign has given us a unique chance to leverage the power of a group approach under the Chamber’s guidance,” said Mike Friis, executive director of human resources at Green Bay Area Public Schools. “Getting together to develop a really targeted and modern advertising approach as a group has been something very unique that we are proud to be a part of. It has also helped us diversify our branding so that additional eyes that may not normally notice us now do.”

Friis credits the Education Recruitment Campaign for helping Green Bay Area Public Schools incorporate some additional data tracking online to better identify who is engaging with them online.

The success of this recruitment effort is measured by impressions, clicks and site interactions. Participating school districts have noticed an increase in qualified candidates applying to fill open positions. It is a shortterm strategy to plant the seed that will result in the long-term goal of more educators in Greater Green Bay.

Welcoming Gen Z to the Workplace

From the Greatest Generation (those born between 1900 and 1920) to Gen Z (19972012), observations about the qualities and preferences of each generation help us better understand how society evolves and the context we’re living and working in.

To that end, by 2030, Gen Z is expected to make up nearly 30% of the workforce. During 2023, the team at KI partnered with ThinkLab, whose research helps connect manufacturing and design, to make some key observations as Gen Z enters the workforce. Here’s what we learned that can you help welcome the newest members of workforce into the fold.

One overarching insight about Gen Z that gives weight to all the others: Gen Z wants to know that their individual contributions are adding value, and they are ready to roll up their sleeves and get to work, despite stereotypes to the contrary.

GEN Z WANTS TO SEE PROGRESS SOONER, RATHER THAN LATER.

They are eager to start projects and want to see progress over 12 to 24 months as opposed to five or 10 years.

GEN Z PREFERS REGULAR CHECK-INS TO ANNUAL REVIEWS.

Things move faster for those raised in the digital age and this generation prefers real-time feedback when a readjustment can have a more effective impact.

GEN Z IS MORE FOCUSED ON DEVELOPING NEW SKILLS THAN CLIMBING THE LADDER.

This generation is looking for opportunities to grow. To build a new skill set, they’re willing to make a lateral move even when it doesn’t yield an immediate raise or promotion. They want to learn from their managers.

GEN Z SEES MENTORSHIP AS A TWO-WAY STREET.

They understand that knowledge and wisdom flow in both directions and that different generations can mutually benefit from each other.

MUTUAL RESPECT IS IMPORTANT TO GEN Z.

While willing to jump right in on a project or add new skill sets, Gen Z is not blindly loyal. They want to feel that their company appreciates their work and reciprocates with fair pay and recognition. Small rewards like a day off after investing overtime to meet a deadline can make a Gen Z employee feel respected and appreciated, so can providing regenerative spaces and private spaces that can help provide a better work life balance.

GEN Z WANTS PERSONAL CONNECTION IN THE WORKPLACE.

GEN Z CRAVES AUTHENTICITY.

Maybe the most important insight, Gen Z craves authenticity. Research has shown that empathy in their boss is one of the traits Gen Z values the most. This generation wants to know that their boss has genuine interest in them and can relate to them in a human and respectful manner.

When it comes to welcoming the newest members of the workforce, creating an environment that encourages authenticity, understanding, personal interaction and respect can help set you up for success.

Prevea Surgery Center a staple of Green Bay’s west side medical corridor

Drive along Shawano Ave. in Green Bay and its sleek, modern design is hard to miss. The Prevea Surgery Center, an ambulatory surgery center built in 2022, is a staple of the city’s west side medical corridor, nestled between the 3-story Prevea St. Mary’s Health Center and HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital Medical Center.

If you’ve received care with us at the Prevea Surgery Center, then you know who we are and what we do. If you’re just learning about us now, we get it. From announcements about new buildings, services, partnerships and more – the health care landscape is always changing, and Green Bay is no different. It can be hard to keep up, and unless you’re focused on a health care concern of your own or a loved one you may not be thinking about it at all.

How we got here:

The Prevea Surgery Center is a partnership between Prevea Health and Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS), which operates two major hospitals in Green Bay: HSHS St. Vincent Hospital and HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital Medical Center. Prior to the Prevea Surgery Center, Prevea Health surgeons performed all procedures – outpatient and inpatient – within the hospitals. As the demand for surgical care in the community grew, there was a need for more space for our surgeons and more importantly, better access to surgical care for our patients. In 2022, Prevea Health and HSHS proudly opened the doors to the state-of-the-art Prevea Surgery Center!

Why it matters:

Today, more than half of all surgeries performed in the U.S. are done on an outpatient basis. Yet, there is still a critical need for hospital surgical settings for things like emergencies and complex surgeries that require a hospital stay. The existence of both the Prevea Surgery Center and the HSHS hospitals in Green Bay ensure our patients are receiving the best possible care, in the best possible location for the very best value. As Prevea Health and HSHS shift outpatient, same-day surgeries to the Prevea Surgery Center, they create more room and appointment availability for all patients in need of surgical care

in our community – whether it be in the surgery center or the hospital.

How this benefits our patients:There are three major benefits our patients experience in having access to the Prevea Surgery Center for outpatient, same-day surgeries and procedures.

1. Quality

Just like in hospital operating rooms, the surgeons, nurses and medical professionals at ambulatory surgery centers follow very specific protocols and procedures for the safety and well-being of patients. Likewise, regular, comprehensive assessments are conducted on the quality of care provided to patients. Prevea is also unique in that it is a health care organization led by doctors, which ensures the well-being of our patients always come first.

2. Cost

Did you know there is an estimated 20 to 40 percent reduction in cost for patients receiving care at ambulatory surgery centers, like the Prevea Surgery Center? This is due, in part, to the lower costs required to operate a freestanding ambulatory surgery center. This means lower out-of-pocket costs for those with high-deductible plans and up to 59% lower costs for those with commercial insurance. However, it is important to note not all ambulatory surgery centers offer this amount of cost-savings. Be sure to ask!

3. Convenience

A freestanding ambulatory surgery center means patients do not have to navigate complex hospital campuses and registrations. In most cases, parking is easier to navigate, appointments are easier to schedule and wait times shorter with care at an ambulatory surgery center. Also, surgery is all we do! This means we can easily identify and work to improve the process and experience for the patient.

Choosing your care

We know you have a choice when it comes to health care, and that when it is on your mind, quality, cost and convenience are part of the discussion. We’re proud of what the Prevea Surgery Center has to offer, and it is our honor to care for you. An appointment at the Prevea Surgery Center starts with a referral from your primary care provider. To find a doctor, visit www. prevea.com. Take a video tour and learn more about the Prevea Surgery Center at www.prevea.com/ASC.

Wisconsin Childcare Summit: A Business Approach to Solving the Childcare Crisis

Numbers from the U.S. Secretary of Commerce show that Wisconsin loses $1.9 billion every year as the result of parents leaving the workforce to care for their children. That same cost on a national level is $122 billion dollars every year. The Greater Green Bay Chamber is organizing the Wisconsin Childcare Summit presented by American Family Insurance in response to the ongoing childcare crisis.

“The struggles surrounding childcare have far-reaching implications throughout the business community,” said Eric Vanden Heuvel, vice president of talent and education at the Greater Green Bay Chamber. “We are working to mobilize employers from around the region and build momentum to find sustainable solutions that will help businesses of all sizes in all communities.”

The Wisconsin Childcare Summit aims to bring together visionary business leaders committed to addressing and resolving the childcare crisis in our state. Through collaborative efforts, innovative solutions and a business-centric approach, we strive to create a platform where leaders can learn, strategize and take action to ensure accessible and high-quality childcare services for all families.

The two-day event will kick off with an evening reception at Lambeau Field on Tuesday, September 10. Attendees gather again on Wednesday, September 11 at the Resch Expo for a full day of breakout sessions and featured speakers including Joseph Fuller, professor of management practice at Harvard Business School.

Tickets to the Wisconsin Childcare Summit will be limited to ensure a statewide representation of business leaders and decision makers. Individuals interested in attending must fill out an interest form to be submitted to the Greater Green Bay Chamber for review. The forms will be reviewed, and those selected to attend the event will receive an email in June with more information about purchasing tickets.

“This is a pivotal moment for talent attraction and retention, and I am excited about the innovation that could come from the Wisconsin Childcare Summit,” said Vanden Heuvel.

The Future at Work: Insights

from Current Young Professionals

Current Young Professionals (CYP) fosters development, social networking and community engagement opportunities within Greater Green Bay for individuals 21-40. Right now, there are 1,155 active members in this membership-based program which offers both individual and employer memberships to monthly core events, committee involvement and other volunteer opportunities.

DEVELOPS

Dine N’ Develop with Harry Sydney

Volunteering on the Develop Evolve Network (DEN) Committee has allowed me to get in better touch with the CYP members at our After 5 networking events. Additionally, our DEN Committee helps plan and coordinate Dine N’ Develop events with the focus on professional development. Recently, our team worked with former Packer player Harry Sydney, who presented his experiences and thoughts on DEI and shared the amazing work he has done locally with his My Brother’s Keeper foundation. I would recommend CYP and the DEN Committee to any local young professional looking to expand their network and learn new skills.

S.O.U.P.

Before attending my first CYP event I was nervous - not nervous to put myself out there, but nervous that the culture of the group would be judgmental depending on how ‘young,’ how ‘current’ and how ‘professional’ I was. I couldn’t have been more wrong. A smile didn’t leave my face the whole event, I talked to people from ages 18-30+, I shared stories with all types of professionals, and I felt so seen and heard by everyone. This group gives me a casual and organic way to make real connections and I couldn’t be more thankful.

“ “

One of the initiatives that I have been a loud champion for and have had the honor to lead the last few years is our S.O.U.P. (Support of Urban Projects) event. S.O.U.P. is an accessible philanthropic opportunity, empowering young professionals to make tangible impacts on our community by supporting local projects aimed at enhancing the Green Bay community. Fundraising events often come with hefty price tags that are not always feasible for young professionals just getting started, but S.O.U.P. was designed to be financially accessible so that virtually every Young Professional could take part. It quickly became my favorite CYP event, and I have been honored to have been able to lead the last few years as part of the Community Partnerships committee.

Celebrating 40 Years of Leadership Green Bay

Along-standing program established in 1985, Leadership Green Bay convenes a cohort of professionals from a cross section of industries. The cohort comes together monthly, for full day sessions, to expand their understanding of the complex components influencing community and our overall quality of life. The program is designed to foster, challenge and empower community leaders to bring their time and talent into areas of passion and become a leader in changing the landscape of Greater Green Bay for the better.

Participants come from a variety of backgrounds: business, law, healthcare, government, non-profit, independent consultants, and more. This experience is for those who wish to build strong relationships, will work to improve our community after commencement and are committed to their own personal and professional development.

As part of Leadership Green Bay, teams work on a project that benefits the community to raise awareness, solve a community issue, or help meet the needs of a nonprofit organization.

TEEN LEADERSHIP GREEN BAY 1998 FLAGS AT LEICHT PARK 2006

The team’s mission is to develop and implement a three-day workshop for Green Bay teens that focuses on cultivating personal, group and community leadership skills. The workshop will consist of three consecutive full day sessions. The first workshop was held on July 17, 18, & 19, 1998 at the F. K. Bemis International Center located on the St. Norbert College campus. Teen Leadership has expanded and continues to be offered to area high school sophomores today. The Greater Green Bay Chamber is preparing to celebrate 33 teen leaders from 14 area high schools graduating in the 26th class of Teen Leadership in early May.

The goal of the team project was to raise flags in the newly developed Leicht Park to celebrate the diverse ethnic groups and countries of origin that are found in Green Bay and surrounding areas today. Leicht Park is located along the west side of the Fox River in downtown Green Bay.

Their project was a stage at Whitney Park in downtown Green Bay. Whitney Park is used for the music in the park series as well as comedic entertainment. The stage will enhance the experience for those attending the park and provide a better venue for the performers.

Congratulations to the Leadership Green Bay Class of 2016 Team #1 for raising over $28,000 to get the stage accomplished.

How Marketing Strategies Are Shaping Recruitment Success

Derek Blaszak, Director of Business Development at Element, a fully integrated marketing agency, blends strategic vision with hands-on execution to drive impactful digital marketing campaigns. With over 15 years of experience integrating sales and marketing, he has helped hundreds of clients across multiple industries grow their businesses.

You know those companies that just seem to have it all figured out when it comes to snagging and keeping the best talent? They’ve clued in to something crucial: the game has changed, and so has the playbook for finding and securing new team members.

The key to landing those top-notch employees? It’s all about shaking up the old-school recruitment and hiring process.

Organizations serious about building a solid talent pipeline and ensuring they are set up for long-term success need to move beyond the traditional HR-centric approach. Instead, you should tap into the expertise of your marketing teams.

There is one major trend among the most successful organizations in recruiting and retaining today’s talent: they’re integrating marketing strategies into their recruitment efforts.

What does that mean, exactly? Put simply, today’s recruitment and retention game calls for a fresh, innovative marketing approach to capture the attention of your target audience – potential employees. It’s a similar approach to how you market your products or services to consumers, but instead you’re creating a campaign that resonates with those who have the skills you are looking to add to your team. And the results? Pretty impressive.

For instance, by applying our strategic marketing approach to the recruitment process, one client slashed hiring costs by $40,000 and filled 60 positions within just 90 days. Another saw a surge in job applications and drew 2,593 clicks on their job postings, successfully filling all open supervisor and manager roles.

Add to that the ability to leverage social media, targeted messaging, ROI tracking, a paid media mix, and more, and organizations can effectively communicate their unique value proposition to potential talent.

Outside of attracting the right talent with the right marketing, it’s also important to share a vivid vision that connects with candidates. Potential hires are often looking for more than a job--they want a sense of purpose, belonging, and a clear path for growth.

The shift from viewing recruitment and retention as solely HR’s job to seeing it as a marketing function is a vital step in today’s digital landscape, especially with the fierce competition for talent.

This competition underscores the need for organizations to stand out and attract top-notch hires. Like a salesfocused brand messaging, you must identify and showcase what sets you apart, from your culture and values to the perks and benefits of joining the team.

But it’s not just about attracting talent; keeping them is equally crucial. Retention starts from day one, ensuring that candidates are a good cultural and professional fit. Once onboarded, employees need to feel engaged, valued, and supported. This means committing to their development, providing growth opportunities, and fostering a supportive work environment that encourages collaboration and innovation.

That’s why strategic talent acquisition and retention are essential for long-term success in today’s job market. And an integrated marketing approach applied to recruitment and retention can help attract top talent and foster a culture of engagement, loyalty, and long-term employee satisfaction.
