What does your future look like with Premier Health & Wellness Center? by Rita Dempsey, Office Manager of Day-to-Day Operations, Premier Health & Wellness Center
P
remier Health & Wellness Center is an integrative practice with a family atmosphere that combines a focus on chiropractic, physical therapy, massage therapy, nutrition, preventative health and overall wellness. Add to this dynamic atmosphere a new technology to efficiently and effectively communicate information to patients, the patient’s primary care physician, family members near and far, employers, and the patients’ insurance companies and you have a future of great quality care that shows proactive communication to improve a patient’s quality of life, and an enhanced experience from Premier Health & Wellness Center to share with others. Justin Dempsey, DC started Waco Chiropractic & Wellness in May 2014. The practice grew rapidly as he saw his dreams come to fruition while providing sound chiropractic care to hundreds of patients in Waco and smaller communities in Central Texas. He outgrew his first office and moved to a larger and more accommodating space to then change the name of the practice to Premier Health & Wellness Center. This change has allowed the practice to continue great chiropractic care, provide onsite physical therapy provided by Travis Urban, PT, DPT, massage therapy, nutritional assessments, and the introduction of the HELO wearable healthcare monitoring technology device (shown at right). By having a chiropractor, physical therapist and a massage therapist all under one roof—coupled with nutrition and a focus on preventative health care—Premier Health & Wellness Center will continue to provide education in prevention of disease to its patients. “Communication is everything when it comes to providing the standard of care we believe in,” said Justin Dempsey, DC, chiropractor and owner, “Wearable healthcare monitoring technology won’t
replace physicians, but it can help us tremendously by providing detailed reports on the patient’s day-to-day health.” Justin Dempsey, DC and Travis Urban, PT, DPT encourage patients to be proactive on behalf of their own health issues by learning how chiropractic and physical therapy complement each other. By introducing the HELO wearable healthcare-monitoring device, patients are then able to have a better quality of life with the ability to keep their families, physicians, employers and insurance companies in the loop on health care issues that are important to them. HELO is sure to provide a full picture of how this technology will improve patient outcome, reduce healthcare costs and increase revenue streams for healthcare providers involved with their patients—providing everyone with a positive and satisfying healthcare experience. The technology known as HELO is an elegant band with a focus on health and wellness, targeting health monitoring, data analytics and predictions, rather than simply another fitness tracking device. HELO is a wearable health-band that provides wearers and healthcare providers with important health data aimed at early clinical intervention, proactive self-management, enhanced patient compliance and improved outcome-based healthcare. Unlike similar wearables on the market, HELO gathers, stores, analyzes and presents Personally (Patient) Generated Health Data, 24/7/365. This information can be accessed remotely and made a permanent part of the patient’s medical record. Patient-generated health data does more than just add more information to an Electronic Health Record (EHR), it changes the way healthcare providers interact with patients outside of a hospital, clinic or physician’s office. It helps healthcare consultants develop new treatment plans, and even enables

the patient to be an important partner in their own care. The end result is that HELO's data can aid a physician in outcome-based patient care. The level of detail and focus on communication goes hand-in-hand with Premier Health & Wellness Center’s commitment to improving a patient's overall quality of life. At the same time, Premier's embrace of technology does not detract from the practice's family atmosphere. Patients are greeted warmly by name when they arrive, and it is clear that building relationships with patients is second nature to the staff—a warm atmosphere that does not go unnoticed by patients. “That warmth is just who they are. Dr. Justin, Rita and Dick being a family and working together there, they treat patients like they are part of the family. Their friendliness and genuine interest in you and your family speaks to their character as people,” said Anna Hoffman, a Premier Health & Wellness Center patient. “Also, the help that they provide is vast, from my chronic pain to dealing with a car accident injury. The services they provide aren’t just for a sore back or neck, they help people with chronic issues to keep moving forward,” she added, “That also has a lot to do with who they are as people. They just see where people need help, and help them.” Proper alignment is the foundation for any successful treatment.
Anna’s testimony is one of many that speaks to the quality of care received at Premier Health & Wellness Center. The staff cares for their patients as people, and their willingness to explore and use the most up-to-date tools and procedures available translates to a progressive and growing practice. Premier Health & Wellness Center looks to the future, while providing care based on old-fashioned family values of the past. Call Premier Health & Wellness Center today at (254) 537-1064 to begin your journey to health and wellness. Premier is located at 8300 Old McGregor Road, Suite 2A in Woodway. “Let our team be your team.”

During the first year, De received a lot of help from many of the charter members. Mr. Warren allowed the use of his farm fields (the current site of Warren Park) for the first Hewitt Easter egg hunt. Another event that De organized was the Hewitt Hay Daze— an annual event to bring Chamber members and the public together. In the beginning, Hay Daze was held in the parking lot of Wonder World Day Care Center, with festivities including arts and crafts as well as small pony rides. Throughout the day, soft drinks, hamburgers and various snacks were sold to help raise money for the next event. On a humorous note, the main attraction—a hot air balloon—did not launch into the sky as expected. Despite this setback, the annual Hewitt Hay Daze continued to grow and expand, until the high school parking lot was needed to host the event. De remembers there being about 60 Chamber members at the time, but within three years, membership had grown to 100. Greater Hewitt Chamber membership currently exceeds 430+ paid members. De is quick to tell people that the Chamber was about everyone's involvement, and that no city, chamber, event or organization is ever completely successful due to the acts or work of just one person. De Smith was one of the founding pioneers that helped bring a special leadership quality to our Chamber, allowing it to become the well-respected and successful Chamber we enjoy today. Without a love for a community and the people who live there, towns grow stale and begin to decline. Hewitt owes a large THANK YOU for De Smith and her tireless devotion to the early growth and success of the city we enjoy and admire today. I
’ve had the good fortune of being able to travel overseas on a few occasions, so I consider myself to be a fairly seasoned traveler. Yet, I still get anxious about handling money while I’m traveling, especially overseas. Last year, as I was leaving for a 19-day trip to South Africa to visit my sister and her husband— missionaries at an HIV orphanage—I was a little more anxious than usual. After all, South Africa is a long way away, and I was going to be there for an extended period of time. If, like me, you also get uneasy about how to best handle money when you’re traveling, here are five travel tips to keep in mind: 1. Place travel advisories on your debit & credit cards. Anytime you travel—especially out of the country—it’s a good idea to notify your bank, as they constantly monitor transactions for suspicious activity. If you buy gas in Waco on Tuesday, and then use an ATM in Dubai on Wednesday without notifying your bank, your card will likely be suspended. 2. Make note of how to cancel your cards. In some countries, pick-pocketing is more prevalent than in the U.S. In the event your wallet is stolen or lost, knowing how to cancel cards is valuable. I create a note in my iPhone with details about my cards: the last four digits of the account, threedigit security codes, and a customer support phone number. Some banks will let you cancel your card via their online/mobile banking, while others offer online chat. 3. Only carry what you need. When you travel, not only is it a good idea to take a decent amount of cash, but you should also carry multiple debit/credit cards. However, once you’ve reached your destination, there’s no need to carry all your cards with you. Leave some cash (and at least one debit/credit card) in the hotel safe (or hidden in your luggage).
4. Read up on your cards’ benefits. Some debit/credit cards offer benefits that you don’t normally think about—like auto rental accident coverage. Why do I mention this? Well, when the rear hubcap of your rental car mysteriously vanishes on the streets of Cape Town, you’ll be glad you did a little research prior to your trip. Yes, this actually happened. Before you leave, contact your card issuer and ask about any benefits and protections associated with your card. Also, ask about any applicable fees you might incur, like foreign transaction fees or ATM withdrawal fees. Depending on your card, it’s often more cost effective to get cash at ATMs rather than using currency conversion kiosks at the airport. 5. Know your limits. On vacation, it’s not uncommon to make large purchases that might come close to (or exceed) your card limit. If you don’t know what the limit is on your card, contact your issuer to find out. If your limit won’t be high enough to cover your trip expenses, many issuers can increase your daily limit upon request (the usual point-of-sale limit is $1,500 per day). While these tips aren’t foolproof, they should—at the very least—provide you with enough peace of mind to relax and enjoy your trip. WARNING SIGNS: WHEN AGING BECOMES DIFFICULT
IS MY DATA SAFE?
Troubling effects of aging may be gradual at first, but can quickly cause larger challenges. It may be time to seek outside help if you notice these differences in older adults:
Almost half of small businesses surveyed by an online backup company said the fear of losing data keeps them up at night. However, only 36 percent said they have a detailed disaster recovery plan.
• Atypical behavior, such as increased agitation • Communication and relationship changes • Poor nutrition, or weight loss or gain • Neglect of personal care • Forgetfulness evidenced by lapses in the activities of daily living • Financial mismanagement, such as unpaid bills • Confusion and uncertainty with accomplishing regular tasks • Difficulties with balance, walking or mobility To navigate how to talk with seniors about their changing care needs, Right at Home offers RightConversations , a complimentary guide of practical tips and ideas for effective communication in the family caregiving process. In this digital age, the data stored on our computers, servers and in the “cloud” are the life of the business. How would your company respond if that data was lost or compromised by hackers? A study by the National Cyber Security Alliance found that up to 60% of small and medium-sized companies who fell victim to cybercrime went out of business within six months of the attack. Natural disasters, equipment failures, ransomware, phishing attacks and hacks are just a few of the many ways your data can be lost or compromised. Hiring an IT specialist to set up a disaster recovery plan and security system for your company is one of the best things you can do for your business. Only experienced professionals can design and implement safeguards to suit your specific company needs as well as be on top of maintenance, updates and checks of your systems and network. When a security breach or data loss happens, it is vital to have a specialist that is able to safeguard your data and reduce loss and down time. WB Computer Services, LLC has extensive experience in the areas of data protection and disaster recovery. Contact us today at (254) 523-4160. You deserve a good night’s sleep.
TIPS FOR CHOOSING AN ASSISTED LIVING COMMUNITY Identify your loved one's specific need If you're considering an assisted living community for yourself or a loved one, chances are you're experiencing some difficulties in your daily living schedule—trouble with managing medications, preparing meals, tired of yardwork or in need of assistance with bathing and dressing. It may be time to start searching for a community to move to. Get out and visit places Make of list of places you would like to visit. Ask around for recommendations. Chances are, someone you know has heard of or had experience with an assisted living community. Call and speak to the marketing director and set up a time to tour. Seeing firsthand what the building looks like is important, but also take time to visit with current residents to get their opinion. Ask them what they think of the community. What do they like/dislike? Are they happy living there? Would they recommend it? Find out what sets each Assisted Living/ Memory Care Community apart from others While every assisted living and memory care community is regulated by DADS (Department of Aging and Disability), the types of caregivers hired to care for residents can vary. Find out if there is a licensed nurse working in the building, ask if they hire certified nurse’s aides (CNA) and medication aides (CMA), ask what type of training the staff is required to have to ensure they are qualified to work with seniors. Call Stoney Brook of Hewitt Assisted Living and Memory Care at (254) 420-1400 today for a tour to see how we can enrich the life of a loved one.
