Midway ISD earns 14th consecutive national recognition as a ‘Best Communities for Music Education’ District TRACI MARLIN, MIDWAY ISD DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS

nce again, Midway Independent School District is among the Best Communities in the nation for music education. For the 14th year in a row, the district’s commitment to music education is being recognized by the NAMM Foundation as part of the Best Communities for Music Education award program.

O

According to the NAMM Foundation, this year’s award program was designed to honor schools and districts adapting, innovating and persevering in the face of change in addition to those that demonstrate an exceptionally high commitment and access to music education.

Midway is one of just 738 school districts across the country that are being celebrated this year for the outstanding efforts made by teachers, administrators, parents,

“Music educators, administrators, and communities truly rallied to support and sustain music education through a period of intense change and adaptation. These districts and schools persevered in serving their students and communities and assured that music education was part of curriculum offerings,” Executive Director of The NAMM Foundation Mary Luehrsen said in a news release. “We applaud the commitment and efforts of all music educators, school administrators, and community members in providing students the opportunity to explore their creativity through music.”

students and community members in support of music as part of a well-rounded education for all students.

As a 2022 Best Communities for Music Education district, Midway’s music programs have a strong history of success in contests, festivals and auditioned ensembles. Earning this distinction every year since 2008 is evidence of Midway’s dedication to engaging students across the district through quality music education programs.

Get to know your Midway teachers Julie Cantwell - Midway High School Julie has spent her nine-year career at Midway ISD, where she currently teaches Honors and English I. She loves creating units that allow students to express their talents— whether writing, performing or artistic in nature. Ms. Cantwell teaches works from authors of various backgrounds, experiences and perspectives because she values allowing students to see someone like themselves in what they read, while expanding their viewpoint. One of her favorite teaching moments each year is when her classes read Romeo and Juliet aloud together—somehow she ends up on the floor acting out the dramatic scenes. Julie enjoys traveling, hiking, and reading anything she can get her hands on! She gives back to the community by volunteering at Harris Creek Baptist Church, and with her church life group at Mission Waco. Kailyn Conrad - Spring Valley Elementary Kailyn currently teaches second grade, and has enjoyed 11 years as a classroom teacher in her sixth year at Midway ISD. She lives in McGregor with her husband, Jon, and daughters, Reagan and Rylee. Her passion for teaching and growing lifelong learners is evident in her engaging classroom activities and positive student relationships. Through the Baylor School of Education Professional Development School Partnership, Kailyn serves as a Mentor Teacher to senior interns and as a Clinical Instructor to junior level teaching associates. She opens her classroom to bring together experience and innovation for the preparation of new teachers. Kailyn’s biggest achievement came when she presented on effective co-teaching strategies at this year’s National Association of Professional Development Schools Conference in Chicago. Kristiana Reinhardt - Woodway Elementary Kristiana Reinhardt graduated from Baylor in 1998 and has been in the classroom for almost 20 years. She currently teaches second grade. She and her husband, Eric met on their first day at Baylor and have been married for 23 years. They have two amazing teenagers, Jack and Elizabeth, who are both proud Midway students. Kristiana focuses her professional time on teaching the whole child, fostering parent and family communication, and mental health. She is also a proud kidney donor and is passionate about living organ donation, her family, and her church community.

Analise Sandager - South Bosque Elementary Analise Sandager teaches fourth grade in her fourth year at Midway and sixth year in teaching. From an early age, she enjoyed volunteering with children. In college, she earned an Associate’s Degree from McLennan Community College, as well as a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree from Baylor. She enjoys developing a love of learning by dressing up as characters, bringing puppets to class, and incorporating hands-on activities. When not at school, you may find Analise sewing, kayaking or gardening. She is also a Saturday volunteer at the Shepherd’s Heart Food Pantry in Waco. HewittChamber.com Hewitt Chamber Express | 19
