MEET THE MENTORS Colleen James, Regional Councilor, Region of Waterloo Colleen James, an acclaimed equity and inclusion consultant and educator, is a recognized leader in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). Named one of the Top 100 Black Women to Watch in Canada in 2020, she received the Black Excellence in Leadership award in 2023. With over 15 years of experience, Colleen collaborates with organizations to promote diversity, challenge norms in racial equity, and foster equal opportunities. Committed to systemic change, she devises innovative solutions for workplace inclusion. Elected to the regional council in the Region of Waterloo in 2022, Colleen's dedication extends beyond traditional boundaries.

Alex Kinsella, Kinsella Marketing Inc. Alex is a freelance writer and newsletter aficionado based in Waterloo, Ontario. MEET THE MENTORS Everton Wilmot, Wilmot Technologies Everton is President of Wilmot Technologies, a leading technology consulting company in the Region of Waterloo, with expertise in IT infrastructure in both commercial and retail sectors. His entrepreneurial drive has seen the successful development and growth of multiple start-up companies that have had an impact on the economic development of the Waterloo Region. A current member of the Kitchener Westmount Rotary club, a director on the Drayton Entertainment and Unwrap Theatre board of directors, he continues to make time for organizations that can benefit from his experiences. He is also an arts and culture enthusiast, with a passion for the development and advancement of youth.

Dorothy McCabe, Mayor, City of Waterloo Mayor Dorothy McCabe, elected in 2022, serves as a Region of Waterloo Councillor and actively participates in various boards and committees. With over 20 years of leadership experience, she has worked with Mayors, City Councils, corporate leaders, and served as a provincial Member of Parliament and Cabinet Minister. Dorothy led the development of the Two-Way All-Day GO rail business case, now the Toronto-Waterloo Corridor, and continues to advocate for improved transit. A dedicated community volunteer, she contributes to organizations like Parents for Community Living and ClimateActionWR Transportation. Dorothy, a graduate of Wilfrid Laurier University, holds a Master's in Public Administration. As Mayor, she is committed to citizen engagement, public service, and preparing the community for the future.

MEET THE MENTORS Mackenzie Neuhof, MCAP With over ten years in the mortgage industry, Mackenzie Neuhof currently leads the Default Management division at MCAP. An experienced strategist and people leader, Mackenzie excels in aligning operational strategies with organizational goals, fostering team growth through effective coaching, and driving successful outcomes through collaboration. Mackenzie was born and raised in Kitchener-Waterloo and attended Wilfred Laurier University. She resides here today with her husband, and 2 children.

Robin Heald, Child Witness Centre Robin Heald joined Child Witness Centre as Executive Director in June 2023. Robin brings a background of working with not-forprofit agencies in a variety of capacities. This includes past roles as a Caseworker, Fund Developer, Executive Director, and volunteer. She has also enjoyed consultation work - leading agencies through the visioning, development, and implementation of strategic planning, governance structures, expansion plans, grant writing, and funding proposals. Robin brings the passion and authenticity of lived experience as a child victim and witness to her role as well. She looks forward to connecting with you while strengthening our services for children, youth, and their caregivers.

MEET THE MENTORS Michele Saran, Explore Waterloo Region As CEO of Explore Waterloo Region, Michele Saran prioritizes building strong industry relationships, making research-based decisions, and seizing partnership opportunities to boost the region's tourism economy. Since joining in January 2022, she led the creation of a new Tourism Master Plan, setting the stage for a revitalized brand. Previously, as CEO of Tourism Nova Scotia, Michele crafted an export-focused strategic plan, achieving record revenue and visitation. During the pandemic, her leadership guided the organization through unprecedented challenges, implementing new marketing campaigns, industry programs, and public health updates in under eight months. With over 30 years in tourism, Michele served as CEO of Tourism Nova Scotia for over 5 years and Executive Director of Business Events Canada for 7 years. She holds a Bachelor's in Hospitality and Tourism Management and a Certificate in Marketing. Geraldine Stafford, Waterloo Regional Police Service As the first civilian Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Manager at Waterloo Regional Police Services, Geraldine Stafford is used to blazing trails, literally. A native of Kitchener, she first made her mark in the region as a standout student and track athlete. She spent the past 30 years living outside the Region having an accomplished career working for City of Brampton, The Ministry of the Attorney General, and most recently Bell Canada. She sits on several Boards including Co-Chair of the Ontario Justice Education Network program that encourages racialized and marginalized young women to consider careers in the justice sector. Geraldine is also a current KW Chamber Board Member. In 2022, she was named as one of the Top 100 Black Women to Watch in Canada for her dedication in promoting diversity and inclusion for all, recently speaking to the College of Physicians and Surgeons about understanding Diversity in Sudden Death Matters.

MEET THE MENTORS Kristen Boileau, Tairo Consulting Kirsten Boileau is a Learning & Development consultant who built her career over 17 years at SAP. Kirsten was the first person in the world to have the job of implementing a Social Selling program, including training, communications, overall program infrastructure, and analytics. She managed that multiaward-winning global program at SAP for 7 years, then moved on to building functional learning programs for Marketing and most recently supported Leadership growth and development programs. Kirsten has extensive experience in building largescale, impactful learning programs, as well as driving leadership and change management initiatives. In 2023, Kirsten launched her own consulting business, Tairo Consulting, which supports small business owners who want to offer learning & development opportunities to support their employee’s upskilling, reskilling, and overall growth. .Soft Skills: Communication, Leadership, Innovation Mindset

Scott Gilfillan, PwC Scott is a Partner at PwC Canada's Southwestern Ontario assurance practice in Waterloo, focusing on audit quality and financial reporting transparency. With a career spanning diverse clients in insurance, financial services, agribusiness, commodities, and manufacturing, Scott's expertise extends to IFRS transitions. He joined PwC in 2003, briefly working in PwC New Zealand from 2006 to 2008. Scott, a University of Waterloo graduate, holds a Bachelor's in Mathematics and a Master of Accounting. He obtained his CA designation in 2005, demonstrating excellence in the 2004 Uniform Final Examination. Actively engaged in the community, Scott serves on boards for Carizon Family & Community Services and the Greater K-W Chamber of Commerce, residing in Waterloo with his wife and two children.

MEET THE MENTORS Lois Raats, Ready2Grow Associates In 2006 Lois Raats founded Ready2Grow Associates to better meet the development needs of professional service owners in fields such as construction, healthcare, law, consulting, creative services, finance and accounting. She offers business consulting, 1:1 leadership coaching, and a weekly accountability group for business leaders. The GoalKeepers Q1 group runs January to March 2024, new members welcome!

Ajoa Mintah, Four All Ice Cream Ajoa Mintah is a professional engineer, turned ice cream entrepreneur and the Founder + CEO of Four All Ice Cream. A University of Waterloo graduate, Ajoa earned her Chemical Engineering degree in 2001 and spent the next 16 years in various roles, ranging from product development in the automotive industry to technical consulting in the finance industry, before pursuing her dream of becoming a “maker”. Four All Ice Cream, which aims “to bring the joy of ice cream to all regardless of dietary choices and restrictions”, is the culmination of Ajoa’s education, experiences and above all else, her desire to create. Her strengths include goal setting & problem solving.

MEET THE MENTORS Carleen Caroll, Wilfrid Laurier University Carleen Carroll's diverse career spans the political, private, and public sectors, showcasing her leadership in communication across education, government, transportation, and telecommunications. Currently serving as Assistant VicePresident External Relations at Wilfrid Laurier University, she oversees media relations, issues management, integrated communications, digital experience, marketing, creative services, and alumni communications. Carleen, an advocate for animal welfare, serves on the boards of the Kitchener Waterloo Stratford Perth Humane Society and the Greater Kitchener Waterloo Chamber of Commerce. Accredited in public relations and a member of the Canadian Public Relations Society College of Fellows, Carleen is a graduate of McGill University and Western University. In her spare time, she enjoys walking her golden retriever Ziggy on the trails in Kitchener-Waterloo. .

Andrea Vrbanac, Axonify In her role as Vice President of People and Culture at Axonify, Andrea Vrbanac is responsible for building and implementing scalable people programs that evolve with the needs of a growing business, integrating strategic vision with a peoplecentric approach. Andrea champions a leadership grounded in authenticity, empathy, and collaboration. Prior to joining Axonify, Andrea held roles in the technology sectors as a proactive HR Business Partner to Leaders and employees. She is a Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) and enjoys working in collaboration with all areas of the organization to develop effective talent solutions. Andrea is active within the Waterloo Region community – previously serving on the Board of Directors of the KW Chamber for 4 years and as a mentor to other HR professionals. .

MEET THE MENTORS Kris Ronan, Ginger Goat Hot Sauce Kris Ronan is a dynamic entrepreneur and business enthusiast. At the forefront of their achievements is the sizzling success of Ginger Goat, a hot sauce company that has garnered acclaim for its award-winning sauces, earning coveted spots on the renowned show Hot Ones on seasons 15 and 22. As the proud owner of Ginger Goat, Kris brings not only a passion for flavor but also a wealth of expertise and experience in sales, marketing, and business scaling. While growing Ginger Goat, Kris has maintained his role within the Entrepreneurship Collective which is the incubator at Conestoga College to help entrepreneurs and freelancers grow as well. Beyond the realm of hot sauces, Kris has dedicated time and effort to many other community organizations, including having served on the board of directors for the KW Chamber of Commerce for 6 years.

Jeff MacIntyre, Grand Valley Construction Association Jeff MacIntyre has been appointed as the incoming president of the Grand Valley Construction Association, succeeding Martha George. MacIntyre, a community builder with experience in fostering growth through innovation, has held leadership roles in both the public and private sectors. Former Chair of the Greater Kitchener Waterloo Chamber of Commerce and a founding board member of the Waterloo Region Economic Development Corporation, MacIntyre's diverse background includes spearheading programs at Conestoga College and founding several small businesses. His focus throughout has been on business development. MacIntyre officially assumes the role on August 15th, 2022. .

MEET THE MENTORS Tracy Valko, Valko Financial Ltd Tracy Valko, Founder & Chief Visionary Officer of Valko Financial, brings over 25 years of finance expertise. Renowned as a Motivational Speaker, she focuses on Women's Leadership and Resilience. Tracy's heart-centered leadership at Valko Financial has served over 7000 members across Canada, earning a top 1% ranking. As Ontario Director for Mortgage Professionals Canada, she advocates ethics and consumer protection. Tracy, with 75+ awards, including the Canadian Mortgage Hall of Fame, is a nominee for the RBC Women of Distinction Award and part of the Global Top 100 Mortgage Professionals. Beyond achievements, she actively promotes financial literacy on City News and supports numerous charitable events. Tracy is a dedicated advocate for mental wellness, hosting the podcast "Beyond the Mortgage." A devoted wife and mother, she embodies resilience and heart-centered leadership in all aspects of life.

Stephen Jackson, Anishnabeg Outreach Employment & Training Stephen, the First Nations CEO of Anishnabeg Outreach, holds a master's degree in Industrial Psychology from the University of Waterloo. With a career focused on transforming large corporations, Stephen has led AO's strategic growth, achieving over 1000% increase in funding and service delivery offerings for the Indigenous community. Under his leadership, AO has been recognized as the Top Tech Innovator in Waterloo Region, Top Not for Profit, and received a Community Leadership Award from WRPS. Instrumental in developing partnerships, Stephen contributed to the creation of AO's Indigenous healing centers and a farm for local Indigenous community support. He spearheaded the AONest learning management system, promoting reconciliation by providing resources for cultural revitalization and employment training. Stephen's visionary leadership also led to AO's virtual mental health management system, with plans for a mobile app to address addictions, homelessness, and incarcerations. .

Certified by The Association of Bridal Consultants and mentored by industry experts, she excels in bringing clients' visions to life. With a Masters of Music and Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from McGill University, Carolina combines artistic flair with business acumen. Previously, as the owner of The Event Firm Inc, she orchestrated events for notable companies, and now, she oversees operations at Tapestry Hall, Foundry Tavern, Bellflower Market, and The Underwing. Known for her detailoriented approach and client retention skills, Carolina thrives in high-pressure environments, showcasing her exceptional multitasking abilities. Her extensive knowledge of the hospitality industry positions her as a respected leader guiding the Gaslight Events Company towards future success. .

Kim Wilhelm, The Food Bank of Waterloo Region Kim Wilhelm is the CEO at The Food Bank of Waterloo Region, joining the organization in 2016. As one of Ontario’s largest food banks, The Food Bank of Waterloo Region distributes over 6 million pounds of food annually to community food programs within Waterloo Region and Southwest Ontario. Kim is a passionate non-profit leader with diverse experience in strategic and integrated fundraising and non-profit operations, including financial management, generating a diverse revenue stream for the organization. As a relationship builder, she works closely with a local network of more than 120 community programs and agency partners as well as provincial and national partners to ensure a collaborative approach to food service delivery. Prior to joining The Food Bank Kim spent almost 20 years as a senior fundraiser in healthcare and has held many community and national board and committee volunteer positions. In her spare time, Kim can usually be found in a hockey arena with her husband Steve, cheering on their 13 and 15 year old sons. She also enjoys the outdoors and cooking. .

Having run sleep clinics for many years, I observed firsthand the profound effects on people's well-being. Now, my mission is a holistic approach, guiding clients to prevent and treat diseases through better eating and sleeping habits, fostering a healthier quality of life. I believe in the power of nutrition and quality sleep as the foundation for optimal wellbeing, bringing the mind, body, and soul back to optimal health.

Shelley Forwell, WalterFedy Shelley Forwell, P.Eng., is a Partner at WalterFedy, and the Site Development Manager for their Civil Engineering Department. Shelley has been with WalterFedy since 2012 and has a long history of managing the civil component of complex commercial, residential, institutional and industrial projects across Ontario. She has 35 year of experience in Site Grading, Servicing and Storm Water Management design, enjoying collaborating with the entire consultant team including architects, mechanical, electrical and structural engineers, landscape architects and contractors. Shelley is passionate about people and is particularly driven to see others succeed. She builds strong relationships that create a truly collaborative work environment. Shelley loves to spend her spare time with family and friends, as well as being active outdoors. If she’s not in her backyard, she’s likely adventuring in the Bruce Peninsula, or relaxing by the water with a glass of wine.

MEET THE MENTORS Jeyas Balaskanthan, Uptown BIA Jeyas Balaskanthan joined the Uptown Waterloo Business Improvement Area (BIA) as the Executive Director in August 2023. Prior to joining the BIA, Jeyas worked as the General Manager for the University of Waterloo Graduate Student Association. He also worked with Wilfrid Laurier University Students Union as the director of hospitality for ten years. Jeyas started his professional career as a Residence Manager at Laurier worked there for three years then worked at University of Waterloo as a Residence Manager for three years as well. Jeyas has sat on various boards in the community, including the Lake Shore Optimist Club of Waterloo, the Waterloo Economic Development Committee and the Cultural and Neighbourhood Grant Committee. Having lived in Uptown Waterloo for over twenty years Jeyas is passionate and invested in the success of the Uptown Businesses.

Chloe Hamilton, Warm Embrace Elder Care SChloe Hamilton founded Warm Embrace Elder Care as a service to help seniors remain living at home for as long as possible. After witnessing her own grandmother’s decline each time she moved —from home to apartment, to retirement, to long-term care— Chloe’s passion is to provide for other families the service that would have allowed her own grandmother to remain at home. Together with her mother and sister, they have grown their family business over the past 15 years to include a whole team of compassionate caregivers, ensuring they can provide 24/7 care to clients across the community. .

MEET THE MENTORS Mohsan Abdullah, Activa Mohsan is a serial entrepreneur with deep roots in the community and a core value of connecting people by creating thriving environments. He is a strong team player with a collaborative approach specializing in marketing and media services. Being a co-founder and CEO of Token Creative Services since 2014 has given him the opportunity to connect with a variety of community members in the Waterloo Region. As a member of the chamber since 2016, voted volunteer of the year in 2020, Mohsan has been part of multiple committees. He has been a BEA Gala Judge, as well as part of the Marketing Advisory Board. He is currently on the diversity, equity, and inclusion committee, has facilitated the Marketing P2P event, was Chair for the CYP, and served as a mentor for multiple other community events. He has been a board member for Oktoberfest for the past two years and is currently working with Activa as a Sales Specialist selling new construction homes and spreading awareness in the community regarding the importance of Net Zero homes in providing a greener future for the next generation — especially his two children. .
