RENOVATION

Q&A

with Mark Cochran & Audrey Kendrick

CEVIAN Design Lab

Q: Why was it important to CEVIAN to renovate the Chamber Building? CEVIAN: First impressions, when a company or a large industry or an individual is thinking of locating themselves in Rome and Floyd County, their visit to the Chamber should reflect the values of our community: values of innovation, preservation, economic development, and well being. Those values were reflected in the staff at the Chamber but were not reflected in the building. Now, when one crosses the threshold, they are greeted with an experiential environment reflective of our community values and intentions. Additionally, air quality, the color temperature of the lighting, the softness or hardness of the surrounding building materials, and many other elements all contribute to how one interacts with a space. Those elements also impact the quality of work produced, as well as the efficiency of the work produced. By lightening the finishes, re-arranging the floor plan, and capturing natural light, the renovation has created a space more conducive to the inspiration being developed and the work being done at the Chamber. The staff at the Chamber produced work of value and excellent quality when surrounded by green carpet and gold wallpaper, so we are excited to see how much more they thrive in a space designed more efficiently for their needs.

Q: What was the inspiration for the design of the Chamber building?

CEVIAN: The removal of the gold chandeliers, the gold wallpaper, and the green carpet.

Q: What is your favorite part of the newly renovated building?

Mark: The Floyd County map on the glass wall in The Welcome Reception Lobby. Audrey: The large conference space.

Q: Why was it important for CEVIAN Design Lab to be a part of this project? CEVIAN: CEVIAN Design Lab endeavors to be a leader in innovative design and forward-thinking community development. We are grateful to the Chamber for giving us the opportunity to express these values in the design at the Chamber of Commerce. Thank you to the Rome Floyd Chamber's Building Sponsors:

CEVIAN Design Lab • Harbin Clinic • Mohawk Industries • Redmond Regional Medical Center • River City Bank Stay tuned for additional partnership announcements, and we welcome future opportunities.

In 2017 under the leadership of Rome Floyd Chamber Chairman, John Quinlivan, CEO, Redmond Regional Medical Center, the Chamber’s Board of Directors voted unanimously to renovate the Rome Floyd Chamber of Commerce building located at 1 Riverside Parkway. Mark Cochran and Audrey Kendrick, CEVIAN Design Lab, are the architects for the redesign of the Rome Floyd Chamber interior office space. Jim Pinson and Will Pinson, Pinson’s Inc., are the General Contractors for the project. Twelve Rome and Floyd County companies and approximately 55 people have worked on the building renovation to its completion. “The Rome Floyd Chamber provides an even better first impression of our community. The building now better speaks to who we are and whom we serve, ” said 2018 Chairman of the Rome Floyd Chamber Pete McDonald, President of Georgia Northwestern Technical College. The Welcome Reception Lobby offers digital capability which

speaks to our 2018 All Things Digital launch. The Welcome Reception Lobby showcases a glass wall with a sleek imbedded map of Rome and Floyd County. With the clean lines and bright light, the interior office design is streamlined and efficient. Every month hundreds of Rome Floyd Chamber members come through the office. The intent of the renovation is to improve visitors and members experience and extend Southern Hospitality in a high-tech, high-touch way. “As the Rome Floyd Chamber continues to attract and entertain prospects for job growth, the new space gives an opportunity to present our best and to disseminate information through many forms of media. The newly designed Board Room speaks to the fact that the Chamber markets Rome to the world by the feature wall displaying the world map with uniquely artistic style,” added Mr. McDonald. The Chamber Staff has planned a Grand Opening Open House Drop-in for May 14, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. All Chamber members are invited to visit and help us celebrate. 5 | Momentum

his renovation puts Rome and Floyd County on the cutting edge of technology. When you walk in you see the crisp look and visitors are impressed immediately with the work CEVIAN Design Lab has created. The update to the building brings the Rome Floyd Chamber to another level. It really helps to show people what can be found in Rome and Floyd County, and that we are the home of technology and innovation. This renovation is a great start for what is to come in the future, and I am excited to be a part of it as the Rome Floyd Chamber's Chair-Elect.

n the last year we have launched a new initiative called All Things Digital, and the renovation to the Chamber building truly is a representation of this initiative. The Chamber building is equipped with top of the line fiber connection and a digital media wall. The new media wall will really help to show visitors and prospects how technology centered we are in Rome and Floyd County. The new technology allows us to better present Rome and Floyd County and help businesses find their perfect home in our community.

he partnership Rome Floyd Chamber has with the city and county governments has brought wonderful new industries to our community. The Rome Floyd Chamber plays many roles. It is our greatest cheerleader sending the message "Opportunity Awaits." My favorite parts of the newly renovated building are the local map of Rome in the entrance and the "map of the world" on the conference room wall. These two visuals give you the assurance we know who we are, where we have come from, and we are ready to welcome the world! RENOVATION

John Quinlivan

2017 Chairman of the Rome Floyd Chamber President & CEO, Redmond Regional Medical Center "With our new brand and our new logo, the board felt a new look for our building was in order (and much overdue) as well. We want visitors to see in our Chamber what we’re so proud of in Rome and Floyd County—our vibrancy, advanced practices in business and manufacturing, state of the art medicine and education and cutting edge technology. Thanks to great work by our designer, CEVIAN Design, and our contractor, Pinson's Inc., we believe our renovated building visibly represents all of these things. I’m confident it will be a catalyst for continued growth and development."

Kenna Stock

Rome Floyd Chamber Board Member CEO, Harbin Clinic "The Chamber’s new space brings to life the idea that Rome and Floyd County is a vibrant, thriving area that believes in innovation. And as long-time Chamber members, we were happy to support this wonderful new design that signals the Chamber is focused on the future. What a perfect opportunity for Harbin Clinic to continue serving the community in partnership with the Chamber."

Roger Smith

2000 Chairman of the Rome Floyd Chamber President & CEO, River City Bank "This new look represents what Rome and Floyd County is... a vibrant, entrepreneurial, thriving community! The renovation embodies what our community has become. I couldn't be happier for what this means for Rome and Floyd County, and River City Bank is honored to have been a part of bringing this impressive idea to fruition."

P

inson's Inc., has been honored to be a part of this project. This project means so much to the community. It is a first impression of our community for so many people, and we wanted to help bring Mark and Audrey's vision to reality. The project really allowed our crew to get excited. The team took great pride in the work they were doing for their community. During this project we made a commitment to use Rome and Floyd County companies and by the end of the project we has used 12 different local companies and that provided work for 55 people. This allowed us to put money directly back into the community. All of the members of the crews that made this happen can now drive by and point out the work that they have done. It's a great show piece. We appreciate the opportunity we had to work on this project and work with CEVIAN Design Lab and the Rome Floyd Chamber. - Jim Pinson & Will Pinson Pinson's Inc.

empsey Lord Smith, LLC (DLS) is a staple in the Rome and Floyd County Community. DLS is an independent wealth management and retirement planning firm. In 2007 Jerry Dempsey, Partner and John Lord, Partner, Ernest Smith, Partner joined together to form DLS. In 2009 Duvan Brock, joined as the fourth Partner. The partners have decades of experience in the financial world. In 2008 DLS, completed their building on North Broad. DLS intended to use the fourth floor and lease the rest of the building to small businesses in the community. “We wanted to create a home office that could grow with the firm,” said Mr. Dempsey. “At the same time we wanted to benefit the community with the new construction." Since the creation of DLS and the

construction of the building, DLS has grown to 13 staff members in Rome and 87 financial advisors across the country. The firm has grown every year since inception. “As long as we do what is right for our financial advisors and their clients the firm will continue to grow,” said Mr. Smith. “We hope to grow to 125 financial advisors over the next two years.” DLS has 12,000 accounts and over 8,000 clients. One advantage of being an independent brokerage firm is the personal involvement upper management is able to have with the financial advisor and their clients. “Being an independent firm allows our financial advisors to take care of their clients on a different level,” said Mr. Dempsey. “This is one of the most highly regulated businesses in the

country and we want to do what is right by those that count on us.” DLS has financial advisors located mostly in the Southeast with financial advisors in California, Arizona, Florida and Ohio. Even though their financial advisors are located in and outside of Rome, Georgia, it is important to the partners at DLS that the headquarters stays in Rome. “Rome is perfect location for us,” said Mr. Smith. “We are located right in the middle of the ABC triangle, Atlanta, Birmingham, and Chattanooga, and that benefits our business. Additionally, we are able to hire great employees from the Rome and Floyd County area.” “We want to contribute to our town and make a positive difference, and having our headquarters here is one way we do that,” said Mr. Dempsey.
