I am happy to announce that July 15th of Star~Dust and I shall be wed. With this we take a new step in our lives together. At Shiver Me Timbers 2016, I had proposed to her in front of everyone. I had thrown her off by starting with thanking everyone for the support of the magazine and “if it wasn’t for this little lady, the magazine would have not happen. After stating that we had been together for a while I hoped for many more. At that point I passed off the mic I was using and got down on one knee, leaving her speechless as I pulled a wooden chest from my pocket with the ring it. Now being together for over 6 years we are tying the knot. We welcome
those that might want to make it to the reception to give their blessings. Garb is welcome. Then the next big question where are two pirates to go Honey Mooning? We are going to shipping out to Disney World for a week and staying at the Caribbean Resort. ... As I said it was really thanks to Star~Dust that the Great Lakes Pirates magazine came to be. She has been the biggest form of motivation to keep up with it month after month. Then thanks to all those that have done their part to interact with us to keep it going. Stay with us as we have you.
Today, “groggy” means to feel dazed, weak or unsteady - usually from sleeplness, an illness, intoxication or a blow to the head. The word grog comes from a nickname which was given to Admiral Vernon, the British Commander and Chief of the West Indies - he was called “Old Groggy” because of the cloak of grogram that he always wore. Admiral Edward Vernon
In 1740, Old Grog ordered that the sailors’ daily ration of rum be diluted wwit water. The sailors called the watered-down mixture “grog” after Old Grog. By exension, if a sailor who drank too much of this diluted mixture was said to be “groggy”

Q
How long have you been into the pirate life and what made you want to be a pirate?
I was pretty young when I fell in love with the freedom and adventure of pirates in books and film. But I only really embraced it when I was fresh out of the military, job searching in Portland, Oregon. I got a job at Captain Henry’s Pirate Store, and being a pirate was encouraged.
Q
What was your inspiration to take on the very popular character Captain Jack Sparrow?
While working at that store, customers would always jokingly ask us where jack was. So I got kind of encouraged by my coworkers to out together a Jack Sparrow outfit. A few years later, they went out of business and I was out of a job. So I used my outfit to do birthday parties and do photo ops with tourists.
Q
With the Dead Men Tell no Tales, recently hitting theaters, how might the new outfit influence your current one?
I actually already put together the new outfit. It’s got a cool new belt.
Q
What is your day job outside of pirating?
I’m a wrought iron furniture welder
Q
Outside of going to events, are there days that you just Garb up and go out on the town. If so what type of place do you happen to go and do?
No, unfortunately I don’t really have a chance to garb up outside of events. I always look kind of piratey though as I have real dreads.
Q
From the great list of out there, what is one of your favorite pirate movies or books?
Most recently, I really liked Michael Crichton’s Pirate Latitudes. It’s very similar to Flint’s story on Black Sails
Q
What do you like the most about going to the events and what is one of your favorite so far?
I’m actually new to Michigan and I’ve only managed to visit a Michigan Ren Fest and The Mid-Michigan Renaissance Festival. I’ll be doing the 3rd Annual Autism Walk at the Detroit Zoo at the end of July though.
Q
Is there anything you would like to share with our readers?
I’ve got a pretty cool Facebook page called The Unofficial Captain Jack. My partner is also really into pirates, and we make and sell pirate art. We collect all sorts of piratey things, and we’re raising a little girl who also loves pirate stuff
We the Crew of the Silver Moon also know for the Silver Moon Imports. Our group enjoys a good sword fight and sharing that fun for your enjoyment. Take a look and follow us on Facebook. Then if you see us at events feel free to come take a photo with us.
Mark your Calendar, and get ready for the Event season to kick off for 2017. As the year goes on, we shall add more events and update any dates that may change.

Q
How long have you been in to Steampunk and what got you into it?
Cody arson Interviewed by: Timber Gray Wolf
I have been into steampunk for about 5 years. The first time I saw actual “steampunk” attire was at the Michigan Renaissance Festival. I was intrigued by the intricacies and imagination that went into it and decided to pick up a couple pieces and do some additional research.
Q
What inspired your garb?
I wanted to incorporate a sort of Hunter of the Macabre for my representation. Therefore I used some elements from “Van Helsing” as well as the Show “Supernatural.” I pieced together a modified crossbow, vials of salt, a wrist firing Gatling gun, a hidden wrist blade, and even a back canister of Holy Water.
Q
Does your Steampunk prosoma have a back story?
As a hunter of the supernatural: I decided my backstory would involve me being attacked by a werewolf that had once been my brother. Losing my right eye as well as needing a breathing mask after the attack. Thus I had committed my life to the hunting of all things that go bump in the night.
Q
What is your day job ?
My day job is a Manager for Panera Bread. Though I’m still looking for a career in my field of study: Elementary Education.
Q
From the great list of out there, what is one of your favorite Steampunk movies or books?
Because steampunk is such a broad spectrum there are many sub-categories within the genre. This leads to many debates in the community about what truly is steampunk. But what I fondly like to consider my favorites movies are “20,000 Leagues under the Sea” and “Treasure Planet” both by Walt Disney.
Q
What is one of your favorite parts of going to events?
One of the things I love about going to events is getting asked what i’m supposed to be. Creating curiosity in others and hopefully inspiring others to take a crack at their own persona as I had.
Q
What is your theory on the steampunk universe, as what caused the world to stop at steam-power?
If I had to guess a reason for a world run on steam. I would have to suppose either inventors improved on existing ideas of a society run on heat and water; or the inventors Nikolaus Otto or Étienne Lenoir had never existed.
Q
What is one of your favorite things about being a steampunk?
I really love to see the creativity that people use when creating their own persona. Taking fantasy, science fiction, and history and creating something that may or may not have existed in a time without the combustion engine. I have been a part of costuming groups and reenactment groups; but the rigidness of rules, and the overall holier-than-thou attitude drive many people away from these hobbies. Thankfully the majority of the steampunk community is extremely malleable and I believe that’s what makes it so unique.

What drew you to the dawn the fins and your driving inspiration? I’ve always had a fascination with water and mermaids ever since I was little. I started swimming by age 3 and diving by age 4. It makes sense that I am a water sign.
Interviewed by: Timber Gray Wolf
What style of mermaid tail is your favorite to use and how many do you have? I am working on getting a silicone mermaid tail in the next few months. I mostly have fashion tails until then.
Which of the Great Lakes might we find you swimming it You could find me swimming in all of them. This.mermaid doesn’t discriminate any body of water.
How was it learning to swim with a tail? Basic tail swimming came pretty easy to me, since I was already a strong swimmer beforehand. But I’m still learning new tricks and techniques all the time, some are more challenging than others. It’s really fun, and a great workout!

What do you like the most about going to the events and what is one of your favorite so far? I like the Mid Michigan Renaissance festival at the Enchanted Forest. It is a bit smaller and intimate under all the trees. It really feels magical. For faire I made seashells with stones and pearls and called them “mermaid wishing stones” for the kids. They loved them. I even gave my jeweled compact mirror to one little girl who said everytime she looked into it she would think of me and mermaids. I saw her later using it while combing her hair with a fork like The Little Mermaid. It is moments like that that make it even more special to be a mermaid.
Do you belong to a waterclan or a lone swimmer? I am currently a lone swimmer but would love to belong to a water clan one day. Be coming an actual mermaid is still a bit mew to me.
Being a preforming Mermaid, what kind of events do you go to and what has been one of your favorites so far? One of my favorite things about being a mermaid at events is seeing the faces of little kids light up and excited to see a real mermaid and interacting with them.
What might be your “day job” when walking upon dry land? When walking on land I work for Great Lakes Window Cleaning taking care of the residential side of the scheduling. It has been an amazing place and environment to work. My daughter is named Lorelei after the German folk tales of the mermaid/siren Lorelei. She has even was a little mermaid with her mama about a month ago. Being a mermaid is a dream come true. To have childlike magic in one’s life as an adult is a beautiful thing.
