Marina Moon was born Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, a city on the southern east coast in 1985. She then grew up far from the ocean in a town of Ballarat. With the love of the Ocean and vowed to move to the coast, now living in the city of Altona Melbourne by the seaside. The trip to dawn her fins started young. As many young girls, they grew up and
watching the Little Mermaid. Marina always wanted to be like Aril, even playing her in a School Play. When she was older she started modeling and doing shoots, experimenting with Cosplay to fantasy based themes. At one point she wanted to try a mermaid shoot, but no mermaid shoot is complete without a tail. After hurting the world of the internet for a tail of choice, she found Merfolk Community, a site with a vast range of tails meant for swimming. Since 2013 she has hooked like a fish on a line and has been doing Mermaid Shoots exclusively.
She was no mermaid out of water, at least not for long. Swimming in the tail came natural for her, due to how she grew up swimming. Unlike the traditional way of quickly scissor kicking, she grew up swimming with her legs together with a dolphin kick style. She could be found swimming in both the ocean and the pools. Even getting a chance to swim using a professional monofin, she felt like a torpedo shooting through water, even at times running into fish in the water. So far she has 5 different tails and is still adding to her collection. Her favorite out of them so are was her very first tail, a fabric magictail in the H20 Orange. She pairs the tail with a mahina monofin as it is one of her favorite to swim with. A usual day from this mermaid starts early for some of the events she partakes in, as such one being “Birthday Party Mermaid Meet ‘n Greet”, which usually takes place in the morning. On these days Marina starts her day off early by applying makeup and styling her hair, mermaid style. She arrives at the beach and finds a quite location away from too much foot traffic. She gets her tail of chose on and waits for the arrival of the Birthday Girl or Boy. In her experience the younger children are the most enchanted be seeing a mermaid as they are
still at the age the truly still believe. She tells the little ones of her fantastic tales of her life under the sea and answers their questions. If the weather is hot, they go for a swim together. As time nears the end, the child gets to pick a special mermaid birthday present from her mermaid treasure box. With a small signal to the Mother or Father that the meet is done, Marina swims out far enough to make it seem she is leaving for her under the sea home. Besides birthday parties she can be found at Charities, Fundraisers, Festivals, Markets, and fairs. Out of those one of her favorite places she has performed been Altona Beach. It is a mostly calm lake and easy to swim in. The water being crystal clear makes the viewing of the tail in the water very realistic. Located out of Melbourne, there is the Melbourne Merfolk Group. Recently joining the group, she has been enjoying the meet ups. The group is still small, but is slowing growing every year.

Cabin Fever Counselor upon the Silver Moon Interviewed by: Timber Gray Wolf
Q
How long have you been into the pirate life and what made you want to be a pirate?
Three years I’ve been a pirate, but what really made me want to get into it was to have an escape from life for a bit, drink with like-minded people, and go to conventions. Besides, who doesn’t like playing a different person for a bit?
Q
Does your pirate prosoma have a back story?
MelloLily is my pirate name, and she doesn’t have a backstory yet. One hasn’t come to mind, I don’t want to make one for the sake of making one. It has to come to me at the right time.
Q
What do you like the most about going to the events and what is one of your favorite so far?
I enjoy meeting other pirates, admiring their garb, and being a pirate. Thus far, I’d say my favorite event is Frankenfeas
Q
What is some the inspiration behind your garb?
Steam punk pirate. I’m still working on my garb, but I have a jacket and goggles that are steam punk style.
Q
Outside of going to events, are there days that you just Garb up and go out on the town. If so what type of place do you happen to go and do?
My crew, the Silver Moon crew, meets once a month to go over ideas then go out. Going out can be going to a restaurant or the mall. Where we go depends on where the meeting is being held.
Q
From the great list of out there, what is one of your favorite pirate movies or books?
Muppet Treasure Island by far is my favorite. The movie came out in 1996 and at that time, my mom bought it on VHS tape. I could not put that movie down and I constantly watched it as a child. Even now as an adult, it’s my favorite. I also liked Captain Herlock, it’s like a future type of pirate crew in space and it’s an anime (movie and series).
Q
What is your day job outside of pirating?
Outside of being a pirate, I have my bachelor’s degree in Human Services (Psychology) but I currently lifeguard at a fitness center and I’m a security guard at Michigan’s Adventure.
Q
Is there anything you would like to share with our readers?
Being a pirate is about having fun and doing what you enjoy. So even if your garb isn’t extraordinary, have fun with it and enjoy the atmosphere. No one will demean you and your garb, so don’t worry about small details such as not having garb. Go to an event dressed in jeans and a t-shirt, and you will be welcome with open arms.
We the Crew of the Silver Moon also know for the Silver Moon Imports. Our group enjoys a good sword fight and sharing that fun for your enjoyment. Take a look and fallow us on Facebook. Then if you see us at events feel free to come take a photo with us.

This year was a great event with weather a little warmer compared to last year. The only down fall was that Star~Dust was unable to attend with us as she had to work. The upside was I was enjoying the weekend as I was celebrating my 25th birthday that weekend. Elise W’strom and I set off for Frankenmuth with the addition
of 2 stowaways, friends of Elise that was looking for an adventure into the pirate life. The travel went well, all for the part every time I have went to Frankenmuth, my GPS has taken me a different route. When arriving to the Bavarian Inn Lodge’s parking lot, we meet with Dueien D’mout, Alais
W’strom, and Melolilly. After the usually greetings of great big hugs and kisses, we garbed up for our crew photo.
food was awesome and is always worth the trip as the cost was fare for what all comes with the orders.
We set out to get to the Bavarian Inn Restaurant, compared to previse year, I had set up reservations for a table. Once we were settled in, Jason White had joined us so we could talk business.
Once the feast was considered over, we set our sights on trying out our new sword. We took some time to test them out, by unloading on each other to test them so. After a few rounds, we wondered the town and Village till it was about time to head to the after party.
Jason White is an engineer whom also creates wood swords, which I had met at the Clash of Ages event in January. With us being in need of some new and harder swords to spare with, the crew had commissioned a large order from him. Like always the staff at the Bavarian Inn Restaurant was great hard working people. The
Getting up to the party a little early to claim a table and relax before all the festivities kicked off. The music that the band was playing did not feel all that piratie, but o’well. A little while the festivities kicked off, I and one other, an older gentlemen, was called up front to the dance floor. He too was celebrating his birthday. A small group chimed
in to sing a quick birthday song. Then something that happen next is something I been waiting for a while to happen, I was recognized as a Captain in the Brethren of the Great Lakes. It would have been much sooner, but somehow information got crossed and high ups thought I had been added years ago. But what came next got everyone’s attention. Rather getting “Birthday Spankings”, I was to reserve “Birthday Flogging”, 25 lashing it was. The event ended on a high note that night as we departed Frankenmuth and headed home. Cannot wait till next year’s Frankenfest.
Shanties Upon the Silver Moon
Ooooh, a captain’s life seems elegant, With far more booze than regiment. He’s required to provide, For all the crew aboard. When provisions are running short, And if the ship is far from port, The Cap himself must sacrifice For all the crew aboard. There’s no rum in the captain’s barrel. There’s rum on the captain’s table, And rum in the captain’s crew, So buy the captain rum. No rum in the captain’s barrel. There’s rum on the captain’s table, And rum in the captain’s crew, So buy the captain rum. He opens up his lighter, fair, And from his barrels he must prepare, Intoxicants of the finest sort, For all the crew aboard.
