welcome to pulltown

Every summer in August, a parade of giant monster vehicles begins to descend upon our quiet little town. They are big. They are loud. They are powerful…and they draw over 60,000 visitors from all over the world. Join us this year as BG makes a 3-day transformation into “Pull Town, USA” during the National Tractor Pulling Championships!

It’s powerful. It’s patriotic. It’s Pulltown!

Grab the family, some sunscreen and a good set of earplugs… it’s time for the National Tractor Pulling Championships in BG!

The National Tractor Pulling Championships have been a part of Bowling Green’s culture for over 50 years. The very first speed pull was introduced at the Wood County Fairgrounds in the summer of 1962, and the tradition continues to this day. The “power of the pull” is part of BG’s spirit…it is a tradition that has grown beyond our community to engage the hearts and minds of people everywhere.

The Northwestern Ohio Tractor Pullers Association is a private club made up of 225 active members, governed by a Board of 9 Directors elected from the membership. They are the promoters of the National Tractor Pulling Championships and have been since 1967. The National Tractor pulling

Championships, the world’s largest tractor and truck pull, is held the third weekend in August at the Wood County Fairgrounds, located at 13800 W. Poe Road, right here in Bowling Green.

The National Tractor Pulling Championships has been a large supporter of Make-A-Wish for over 25 years. Over this time, through fundraising efforts during the events, over $1 Million has been raised, earning the Northwestern Ohio Tractor Pullers Association the “Chris Grecious Society Hope Stout” and “Reach for the Stars” awards in 2019.

The National Tractor Pulling Championships was awarded the Super National Pull of the Year award in 2023 from the National Tractor Pulling Association, their sanctioning body, making ten consecutive years and sixteen years overall. The passion that the Blue Shirts of NWOTPA have for tractor and truck pulls is seen each and every day throughout the year.

The National Tractor Pulling Championships are preparing for another season of “Behind the Hook,” which features stories of some of the teams as they prepare for the pulls. You can check out the series on the National Tractor Pulling Championships YouTube page at youtube.com/@Pulltown.

Juniper’s Soulshine IPA was a gold medal winner at the 2023 and 2024 World Beer Championships.

Juniper Brewing Company makes big-time local brews.

Bowling Green may be a small town, but its beer game is making a national impact. Juniper Brewing Company opened in 2020 and has swiftly become one of the most beloved spots in town for craft beer enthusiasts, locals, and even tourists looking for a unique experience. What makes Juniper Brewing Company truly stand out, though, isn’t just their amazing brews. It’s the story and community spirit ingrained in every aspect of their operation.

A Dream Decades in the Making

Juniper Brewing Company isn’t just a business; it’s a 10-20year dream meticulously brewed by co-owners Zach and Chris Tracy. Zach, with a background in forensic science and biochemistry, spent 13 years as a detective and teacher. His scientific precision and analytical skills shine through in the meticulous crafting of their beer. Chris, armed with an MBA from Case Western Reserve University, brings a 17 year career in community development finance to the table. Together, they have created a harmonious blend of art, science, and passion in their brewery.

Their shared love for the outdoors is evident in the very name of their establishment. The juniper tree, known for its resilience and ability to thrive in various environments, symbolizes their determination and adaptability. This spirit is woven into the very fabric of Juniper Brewing Company, aiming to be a

welcoming sanctuary for everyone.

Walking into Juniper Brewing Company feels like stepping into a cozy retreat. Every piece of furniture tells a story, sourced from second-hand markets and even their own homes. This adds a sense of familiarity and comfort, making you feel right at home whether you’re grabbing a morning coffee or settling in for a meal with friends.

Juniper is more than just a brewery, though. It’s also a fullservice restaurant, and they operate a full coffee bar within the building. They open their doors at 8 AM, welcoming early risers with freshly brewed coffee and their popular breakfast items like the chorizo burrito and croissant sandwich. You could spend your entire day there, transitioning from a morning coffee to a leisurely sandwich lunch (try the ABC Melt: Apple, Bacon, and Cheese!) and one of their famous Smashburgers, which have become a local favorite, for dinner. And, of course, one of Juniper’s award-winning beers.

Community at the Core

At the heart of Juniper Brewing Company is a deep commitment to the Bowling Green community. Zach and Chris are BG Falcon Flames, having moved back to this charming city to invest in its future. They have created a space where students, parents, professionals, and locals can come together, connect, and enjoy a sense of camaraderie.

Juniper’s dedication to the community extends beyond its welcoming atmosphere. They’ve partnered with a local farmer to donate spent grain, which is used for livestock feed and even transformed into flour for baking cookies, brownies, and dog treats. Their commitment to sustainability is evident in every aspect of their business, from their healthy menu options

like grain bowls to their innovative hop water, a non-alcoholic beverage with a refreshing hop essence.

The Brews

Craft beer enthusiasts will find themselves in heaven at Juniper Brewing Company. Their wide spectrum of beers caters to all tastes, and their dedication to quality has earned them multiple national awards, including a Gold Medal in the 2023 and 2024 World Beer Championship and the 2023 Denver International Beer Competition for their flagship brew, Soulshine IPA. Soulshine is a well-balanced beer perfected over 15 years and is a true hallmark of Juniper’s brewing style.

Their light ale, “Ale Ziggy Zumba” was a Silver Medal winner at both competitions and is now sold at all BGSU sporting events. Juniper’s local brews will also be sold at specifically targeted Kroger locations and over 100 self-distributed locations in Ohio.

Events and Catering

Juniper Brewing Company doesn’t just serve amazing food and drinks; they also offer full-service catering and private event spaces. Their “Juni Boxes,” a play on boxed lunches, launch in 2024 and are perfect for corporate off-site events. Their in-house private event space can accommodate over

100 people. Whether it’s a graduation party, rehearsal dinner, or birthday celebration, Juniper’s beautiful brewer’s bar and stunning interior provide the perfect backdrop.

Inclusivity is a core value at Juniper Brewing Company, much like the roots of a juniper tree that grow in any environment. They strive to create a space where everyone feels welcome and included, fostering a sense of belonging and connection among their patrons. This dedication to community and inclusivity has earned them a loyal and diverse following, making Juniper Brewing Company more than just a brewery but a gathering place for all.

Juniper isn’t just a place to grab a drink or a bite to eat; it’s a community hub, a sanctuary, and a testament to the power of dreams and determination. Slippery Elm Trail in the fall

The Black Swamp Arts Festival takes over downtown BG, bringing 40,000 visitors to Main Street. Artists from all over the country come to our little corner of the world to present their creations.

Creative at heart

With over 150 artist booths lining Main Street, visitors are treated to an array of art forms, including ceramics, fiber and leather art, glass works, handmade jewelry, mixed media, paintings, photography, digital art, woodwork, litho printmaking, drawings, sculptures, and more. The sheer diversity of artistic talent on display ensures that there’s something to captivate every visitor.

What sets the Black Swamp Arts Festival apart is its unique blend of visual and performing arts. The festival features three stages, hosting performances by local, national, and international music acts. From soulful jazz to electrifying rock, the live music creates an energetic backdrop to the artistic showcase. And the best part? It’s all free to the public, thanks to the dedication of over 800-1000 volunteers who bring this event to life.

One of the festival’s standout features is the Juried Art Show, where artists compete for recognition and prizes. For local talent, the Wood County Invitational Art Show provides a platform to shine. And for the younger generation, the Youth Arts Village, sponsored by the local Kiwanis Club, offers a hands-on opportunity to create art during the festival. Another highlight is the Chalk Walk, sponsored by the Bowling Green Rotary, where young artists transform the streets into colorful murals based on the festival’s theme. The winning mural brings home cash prizes for the artist’s school art department.

Of course, no arts festival would be complete without delectable food and drink. The Black Swamp Arts Festival doesn’t disappoint, with a wide range of options from food trucks, restaurants, and concession stands. Whether you’re craving gourmet street food or classic festival treats, there’s something to satisfy every palate. And for those looking to relax with a drink, beer and wine tastings are available throughout the event.

The heart of the Black Swamp Arts Festival lies in its vision to provide programming that celebrates the arts, offers opportunities for artists, fosters community pride and involvement, and develops an audience for the arts. It’s an event that brings people together, transforming Bowling Green into a hub of creativity, connection, and celebration.

Parking is conveniently available throughout town, with shuttles running to and from lots at Bowling Green State University, Wood County Fairgrounds, and Meijer, ensuring that visitors can easily access the festival.

Whether you’re an art enthusiast, a music lover, or simply looking for a fun and free way to spend a weekend, the Black Swamp Arts Festival is an event not to be missed.
