Built by abolitionist Fernando Kelton in 1852, this Romanesque-style Columbus home served as a station on the Underground Railroad and provided a haven for freedom seekers. The site has several meeting spaces and boasts Victorianera ornamentation as well as some of the home’s original furnishings. Rentable rooms that seat 40 to 50 people include the carriage house and the cellar. There are also exterior spaces on the grounds that can seat 80 or more. Founded in 1817, Historic Zoar Village preserves the history of a self-sustaining commune with 14 museum buildings. One such structure is the 1868 schoolhouse (one of three that existed in the village), which offers two 75-person meeting rooms between its two floors. The first floor is also equipped with a small kitchen. The newest addition to Marion’s Warren G. Harding Presidential Sites offers a distinguished atmosphere in which to hold your gathering. The Warren G. Harding Presidential Library & Museum’s meeting room can seat approximately 90 people and has a window-lined wall looking out at the home where the former president resided for 30 years. Located on the site of the stockade where the Northwest Territory’s settlers lived, this museum preserves the stories and artifacts of those pioneers, including the home of Rufus Putnam, who led the settlement. The home, which is housed within an enclosed pavilion, can be seen during guided tours, and the original 1787 Ohio Company Land Office is also on the museum’s grounds. This 25-acre estate and arboretum provides a picturesque backdrop for meetings. The two rooms available for rent — a smaller conference room and a larger auditorium — can seat approximately 15 and 110 people, respectively. Along with the former president’s 31-room home, this historic site has a collection of presidential memorabilia that includes a signed document from nearly every U.S. president, the original White House gates and a pair of President Abraham Lincoln’s slippers. Home to 35 buildings and structures, including its namesake 151-foot-tall bell tower and an exhibition hall that displays the Wright brothers’ 1905 Wright Flyer III, this museum campus offers a treasure trove of Dayton history. Hot chicken isn’t just for Nashville anymore. The offering has gained a popularity that now reaches far beyond Tennessee’s Music City, where it is a local favorite. Not only a leading overall restaurant industry trend for the year, fried chicken and spicy/ sweet-heat flavored chicken topped the list of lunch options in the 2023 survey.

Dill pickles were once all the rage, topping pizzas and being sliced up and deep fried, but culinary professionals named those two preparations specifically as fads that are beginning to fade. Other former favorites on the decline include fruit-flavored coffees such as banana and strawberry as well as crudité platters, otherwise known as raw vegetables with dips.

Condiments offer a chance to bring the flavor in fun ways, and choices from around the globe offer a trip for the taste buds. The list of this year’s top condiments, sauces, spices and seasonings includes variations of the ever-popular Sriracha, a spicy condiment that originated in Thailand; Ganjang, a Korean soy sauce; and Guajillo chili sauce, a classic Mexican salsa.

Parties can be planned for groups of 15 to around 1,000, and the larger parties can rent out the whole space for themselves. Choose from three different meeting areas. The Three Seasons Room seats up to 30, the 2 Girders Room has space for 40 and the 4 Girders Room has an 80-person capacity. Home to the Cincinnati Reds, this riverfront stadium offers more than a dozen venues for luncheons, conferences, meetings, parties and more. One indoor space can accommodate up to 300 guests, while the average capacity is around 50 to 60. The ballpark’s outdoor spaces can hold upwards of 2,000. The Executive Super Suite provides a bird’s-eye view of the diamond in an intimate meeting setting, while the First Star Fan Zone provides a large outdoor space for casual gatherings. This high-tech driving range promises fun even if you’re new to golf. Its three locations across Ohio can host small groups up to those of more than 1,000. Although each location varies slightly, the Columbus Top Golf has two different event spaces: one on the second floor that can be split into two and a first-floor space near the restaurant. There are also two third-floor rooms for meetings. For groups in the hundreds, the entire venue can be rented out. Top Golf locations have on-site kitchens that prepare buffet-style meals. Strap on some goggles and head into the arena to slay zombies, travel to the future or hang out on a pirate ship. Sandbox VR operates virtual-reality arenas across Ohio, with locations in Westlake, Dublin and Liberty Township in Butler County. With seven different games available, up to 16 people at a time can play across three different arenas. Add a side of thrills to your meeting by booking it at an amusement park packed with roller coasters. This Sandusky attraction has been drawing visitors since 1870, and today that includes corporate groups of sizes ranging from 25 to upwards of 2,000. The most popular meeting space is the Lakeside Pavilion, a casual outdoor group dining area with shoreline views. Climb aboard this Marietta-based sternwheeler that traverses the Muskingum and Ohio rivers for excursions with your group while the boat’s captain provides optional commentary about the history of this corner of Ohio. On board, a meeting space with presentation materials including a screen, speaker and microphones is located on the lower deck. The boat, which can accommodate up to 165 people for a sitdown dinner, offers catered meals served on board. The options can be as high-end as prime rib or as simple as hot dogs and burgers that are perfect for a company picnic. Columbus’ Center of Science and Industry is not just for kids. The 320,000-square-foot destination hosts groups as small as 20 or as large as 4,000.
