Sustainable and socially responsible entrepreneurship
Vreugdenhil attaches great importance to looking after nature and giving something back to society. The company's sustainable steps often go beyond what is required by law. Vreugdenhil holds MPS, SQ, Quality, ABC, GRASP, Global Gap and Planet Proof certificates. "We have a great love for nature and want to keep ecosystems intact, in our immediate surroundings as well as in Africa where we work in close cooperation with several nurseries," Jochem and Marjolijn tell us.
Circular

Vreugdenhil's ambition is to eventually make all production entirely sustainable and circular. They are currently already reusing water and materials, using organic crop protection and reducing their use of energy, cardboard and plastic. "Moreover, we are taking the last few steps towards peat-free cultivation. We hope to achieve this goal over the course of next year. With our solar panels, we can provide for our own power consumption, particularly during summer. Furthermore, all our sites will switch to geothermal heat by mid-2024. Our materials for labels, seed pots, pallets and packaging boxes are recycled and reusable."
Equality
For Jochem and Marjolijn, sustainability also means being a good employer and caring for the environment. "At Vreugdenhil, we are all equal and we want everyone who works here to prosper."
Wildlife in Zambia
Vreugdenhil donates a part of proceeds from the African Breeze line to the Zambian Carnivore Program (ZCP). "With this project, we help conservation of big game habitats in Zambia. In 2022, we handed over our fourth donation of nearly €10,000 to ZCP. We hope to continue donating such massive amounts again in future seasons."
