I AM AIREYS INLET OFFICIAL MAP
IAMAIREYSINLET.COM.AU
YOU’RE WELCOME I AM A GORGEOUS COASTAL HAMLET. Aireys Inlet, a gorgeous coastal hamlet, gateway to the peaceful curves of the Great Ocean Road and the dramatic nature of the Great Otway National Park. Dominating the landscape is The Split Point Lighthouse, built in 1891. Connecting land and sea the 34-metre iconic tower and red cap are visible for miles. The operational lighthouse, that provides navigation to vessels travelling the waters of Bass Strait, is open to the public. Aireys Inlet provides visitors with a homegrown gateway to adventure with a beach on its doorstep, a river inlet meandering through its middle and the Otway’s hinterland in its backyard. Spectacular trails through the Great Otway National Park provide many opportunities for walking or riding, and the local creeks and beaches are great for surfing and fishing. The township boasts two shopping areas, known as the top and bottom shops; a general store, pharmacy, bookstore, art gallery, clothing and gift shops together with an abundance of cafés and restaurants.
SHINING LIGHTS > The Split Point Lighthouse, affectionately known as the ‘White Queen’, sits nestled on the cliffs of Aireys Inlet. Self-guided tours are available and provide sweeping 360-degree views including the Eagle Rock Marine Sanctuary and Great Ocean Road region. > Travel through maritime history on an Eco-Logic tour to hear stories of the wild and dangerous coastline that has claimed hundreds of ships and remains treacherous today. > Visit the Great Ocean Road Memorial Arch. Located at the Memorial Arch ‘The Diggers’ sculpture, commemorates the 75th Anniversary of the Great Ocean Road. The inspiring sculpture provides visitors with an opportunity to reflect on the 3,000 returned World War I servicemen who built the Great Ocean Road as a memorial to their comrades who were killed in action or died in service during World War I. > The Aireys Inlet Bark Hut Reserve and Allen Noble Sanctuary is a wonderful retreat located in the centre of town. With well-maintained picnic tables and a playground for the kids, that includes the Bark Hut. The wetland sanctuary, with boardwalks, provide excellent viewing platforms to see a wide variety of native birds. A playground is also situated at the skate park and includes BBQ facilities.
EXPLORE I AM THE GATEWAY TO ADVENTURE. Aireys Inlet is built for fun and is ready to play. Relax and let your experience unfold. Immerse yourself in an array of natural adventures whilst exploring the region’s spectacular coastal and bush trails. From big skies and wild nature to family-friendly pathways and clifftop views, you will discover world-class walks and mountain bike tracks with plenty of space to move and roam. From warm summer days on the beach, giggles at mini golf, to rugging up on a wintery clifftop waiting to spy a whale, Aireys Inlet is where adventures are had, and lasting memories made. Located next door to Aireys Inlet is Fairhaven. The Fairhaven beach is patrolled in the summer months, providing visitors with a safe and relaxing location for an abundance of water activities with amenities available at the surf club. Explore the calm natural rock pools located in the sandy coves from the Inlet to Fairhaven beach. Get the SUP board or canoe out and paddle up the Painkalac Creek.
TIME FOR ACTION > An abundance of walking and mountain bike trails criss-cross the region and bushy surrounds of the town. > Experience jaw dropping views from the Surf Coast Walk. Take a walk from the Inlet to Spout Creek taking the time to stop at the Memorial Arch, or go off-road on one of the walking and bike trails. > Catch a wave, whether you are a seasoned surfer or a newbie. Outstanding open beaches with good breaks and a 1.5m swell are available. The popular surfing spots are Fairhaven beach, The Spot and Spout Creek. > Run outs on the Fairhaven beach to Spout Creek are always popular fishing spots for Salmon, Snapper and Gummy. Additional fishing spots are available along the Painkalac Creek. > Saddle-up with Blazing Saddles. Experience horse riding on the beach or take in the beauty of the Great Otway National Park on horseback. > Tee off at Great Ocean Road Mini Golf. Boasting two amazing courses and 30 holes of mini golf innovation. > Aireys Yoga studio provides a quiet, peaceful sanctuary to unwind and rejuvenate. Awaken on a summer morning and wander down to their yoga class held beside the Inlet.
ARTISAN I AM HANDMADE AND HOMEGROWN. Restaurants and cafés provide diners with top quality, homegrown and locally sourced offerings. A range of dining options are available making Aireys Inlet a foodie’s destination. An authentic craft gin company and the nearby brewery serve tipples to both new and experienced connoisseurs. The Aireys Inlet Market is the pride of the local community. Boasting over 60 stalls full of fresh, homemade, homegrown, upcycled or recycled locally sourced goodies, it is not to be missed. Check the market website and social media for dates. Like attracts like and the village of Aireys Inlet has become home to a thriving arts community, and a sanctuary for those looking to nurture body and soul. Enjoy the amazing work from local artists, or catch an exhibition at Eagles Nest Gallery.
FUEL THE BODY > Coffee connoisseurs are spoilt for choice. Enjoy barista brewed coffee at the equally scrumptious Skinny Legs, Onda Food House, Mr T and Me, or Lighthouse Tea Rooms. All of these venues have great food offerings available for breakfast and lunch. > Continue your culinary journey at one of the many amazing restaurants. From A La Grecque serving modern Greek cuisine, to the Italian inspired Little Feast, to the latest eatery in town the Gin Kitchen serving South East Asian shared plates with gin inspired Asian cocktails. > Great Ocean Road Gin is the perfect place to savour a delicious ‘G&T’. Great Ocean Road Gin’s Tasting Room reflects the calm and surfy spirit of the region. > Aireys Pub the home of Salt Brewing Co, pour a variety of awardwinning beers that are made on site. In winter you’ll find a cosy spot in front of the open fire, while in summer you can enjoy the wideopen spaces of the kid and dog friendly beer garden. > After a day on the beach or exploring the bush trails, dine in or take away a delicious hand stretched woodfired pizza from The Captain of Aireys or grab a feast at Aireys Fish & Chips.
