YOU’RE WELCOME

ONE MAP, TWO AMAZING DESTINATIONS. This Official Map covers two of the Great Ocean Road region’s most-loved destinations: Apollo Bay and The Otways. Side-by-side in the heart of the region, these neighbouring locales offer a myriad of distinctive experiences and stunning natural landscapes to explore. Get dwarfed by rainforest trees, spiral up a towering lighthouse, stroll the curve of a sandy beach and feast on fresh-caught crayfish – all in a single day! Use this map to make the most of your time here, plan your own adventure and discover magical moments in Apollo Bay and The Otways. To get a ‘quieter, closer to nature experience’, a visit in winter or mid-week is an ideal time to see rugged coastlines, surging waterfalls, the breathtaking beauty of the cool temperate rainforests of The Otways.

EXPLORE APOLLO BAY + OTWAYS. We’re front and centre to all the action. Apollo Bay is a perfect springboard for exploring The Otways and surrounds. Make the fun last – stay a few days and really get to know us.

Beach fun, Apollo Bay

WELCOME TO APOLLO BAY I AM THE QUIET KEEPER OF A BROODING OCEAN. Apollo Bay is the mid-way point on the Great Ocean Road – the perfect base for exploring the region. Get grounded in our laid-back harbour village nuzzled between velvet-green rolling hills and the moody seas of Bass Strait. Unplug and unwind: we’ve got space to move, freedom to think and walks for days.

SIMPLE PLEASURES. SALT OF THE EARTH. Cricket on the beach. A safe spot to swim or snorkel. Seeing crays hauled off the boat. Dangling a hand-line from the pier, late afternoon. Cooking your own catch or hitting up a top-notch eatery for a seafood feast. Downing a local brew with a view. Stitch every day of your stay with simple pleasures, easy friendships and fresh treasures found.

Marriners Lookout, Apollo Bay

TOUR THE SCAPES > Take a hike up to Marriners Lookout for a bird’s eye view of town. Head 1.5km north along Apollo Bay Beach, track a surfaced road for 1.5km and climb the steep (but short) hill. Relax a while, lean into the view and the sweeping curve of the bay. > Reserve Saturday morning for a foreshore stroll among the intriguing wooden sculptures and a poke around the local handmade and home-grown fare of Apollo Bay Community Market. > Beaches for days. Stroll the sandy curve of Apollo Bay Beach from the harbour to infinity. Get sand between your toes, paddle in the shallows or dip into the waves. Plonk down and simply gaze out over the ocean. > Kick-back and tackle the first leg of the iconic Great Ocean Walk (it’s only 3km to Marengo) or arrange to be dropped off and picked up at points along the 101km trail with Walk 91. | greatoceanwalk.com.au | walk91.com.au > Take a birds eye view of the Twelve Apostles in either our Helicopter or Cessna airplane with Apollo Bay Aviation. A must do scenic flight experience all within a 45 minute return trip. | apollobayaviation.com.au

Otway Fly Treetop Walk

ACTIVE NATURE

I AM FEELING LIKE YOU CAN, TOUCH TREETOPS WITH YOUR TOES. Immerse yourself. Get active, get moving, get real about your place in the natural world. The Otways is a paradise ready for active discovery. You don’t have to go far to spy native wildlife, but the deeper you go, the more you’ll see. And hear. And feel. At Cape Otway, camp beneath the stars, sheltered by manna gums where koalas love to munch through lazy days. There’s adventure here for the taking. As heart-pumping as you like. Boldly venture out from Cape Otway Lightstation on a 10km return hike to Rainbow Falls – take the beach track (if tides permit). In Forrest, hire a mountain bike and whizz warp-speed into new territory. Go trail running where the climbs are beefy and the vistas super-satisfying. For the cycling family, take in the scenery and a little history along the Old Beechy or Tiger Rail trails.

Mountain Biking, Forrest

ADVENTURE TIME > On the Otway Fly Treetop Walk, rove among giants on the longest and tallest elevated walkway of its kind in the world. Track 25m up into the rainforest canopy or fly through it by zipline. | otwayfly.com > Canoe-glide across other-worldly Lake Elizabeth (near Forrest), sliding past grey tree trunks in search of an elusive platypus. | platypustours.net.au > Really get active among the trees. At Trees Adventure Yeodene Park, tackle a lofty two-hour session of ropes climbing, flying foxes and aerial challenges. | treesadventure.com.au > MTB-ers head straight to Forrest. Do not pass go. Ride more than 60km of single-track snaking through lush rainforest and back into town. A variety of trails provide something for all skill levels. | rideforrest.com.au > Take a guided tour and discover the unique wildlife native to the Great Otway National Park at Wildlife Wonders. | @WildlifeWondersAus
