Summer camp FAQs CAN I REGISTER FOR INDIVIDUAL DAYS OR HALF-DAYS? All of our camps are full-day, one or two week sessions.
Inclusion & Integration Dovercourt is proud of its long-standing reputation for being welcoming and inclusive. The belief that each and every child has an equal right to a happy summer camp experience is at the heart of our programming. To bring this belief into practice, we rely strongly on the partnership of parents. Please take the time to make us aware of any medical, behavioural, or cognitive differences (diagnosed or undiagnosed) your child may have at the time of registration. This might include social anxieties, communication barriers, the tendency to run or wander away from the group, simply requiring additional “body breaks” or a little bit of extra attention. Making us aware early on will help our Inclusion Coordinators and Inclusion Team to arrange for any additional supports in order to ensure that each child has the best possible experience in camp.
Our Inclusion Team is comprised of dedicated, passionate and knowledgeable individuals trained in behaviour management strategies and Non-Violent Crisis Prevention and Intervention. The team includes Inclusion Coordinators, Leads, Support Workers and Buddies and we work closely with families and partners to offer various levels of support for our campers including: • • • •
One-on-one support workers Low-ratio staffing models Camp Buddies Profiles and individual accommodation plans
I HAVE PUT MY CHILD ON A WAITLIST. WHAT IS THE LIKELIHOOD THAT A SPOT WILL OPEN UP? Some of our camps will fill early on in the year. We do watch the waitlists carefully and look to increase capacity or add additional weeks or spaces where there is demand. The waitlists do move and if a spot becomes available you will receive an email from us with the option to accept the spot right away. IS THE FULL CAMP FEE DUE AT TIME OF REGISTRATION? A split payment can be arranged for your convenience. 50% of the total registration fee is due at the time of registration, and the outstanding balance payment will be processed 3 weeks before your camp start date. The split payment option is available for registrations made until April 30, 2020 and does not apply for extended care. WHAT HAPPENS IF MY CHILD MISPLACES BELONGINGS AT CAMP? We first do our best to return the items to you; having each item labelled clearly with your child’s first and last name is very helpful. Any items left behind at the end of the day will be stored in the Lost & Found POD located in the parking lot and at the end of each month, any items not picked up will be donated.
For questions or to discuss your child’s participation in camp, or arrange a meeting with our Inclusion staff, please contact us at any time at inclusion@dovercourt.org.
