Portrait of an artist
Our sneak peek into the West End Studio Tour continues By Ted Simpson
The West End Studio Tour (WEST) is a self-guided tour of 16 local artists’ homes and studios that spans two weekends: September 6-7, and 13-14. This issue contains KT’s second installment of artist profiles. Go to Kitchissippi.com to read the ones you may have missed and for two web-only profiles. Get inspired,
plan your route, and most importantly, meet the people behind the art. For the third year in a row, Venz Vesselinov will invite local art lovers into his Whitby Avenue studio to share the newest works as part of the West End Studio Tour (WEST). For the work that will be on display during WEST, Vesselinov has pushed his signature landscapes
even more towards the surreal, with the kind of colour and scenery that is unique to the artist’s own mind. “For these paintings I haven’t used anything from real life, everything is created from my own imagination,” says Vesselinov. And he has quite the imagination to pull from, being a world traveller who has seen every continent and lived Continued on page 3

Manju Sah
Expressing what we see through art
Continued from page 1 on two of them. Born in Bulgaria, Vesselinov obtained his Master’s degree in Fine Arts and began his career as an illustrator and designer in Europe. In 1994, he came to Canada to expand his opportunities as an artist. He started in Newfoundland where he co-founded a graphics design company and also took up the art of making stained glass windows. He moved to Montreal where his work with animation began to take off, and then to Ottawa 10 years ago. He continues to work as a designer and an animator, currently working on programming for the Discovery Kids channel. “I’m not a traditional painter,” Vesselinov admits. With so many years as a designer and illustrator, it is the time spent making stained glass in the Maritimes that influences his paintings the most. “I kept the simplicity of the lines and the very colourful pallet, I was able to create my own kind of style,” he says. “Lately I’m trying to make the colours more mixed, after working with the stained glass I like the brightness, the colours are so loud, so beautiful.” Anyone who saw his work last fall should definitely make a return trip, as Vesselinov is taking things further into the realm of the unreal this year. With a couple of years of WEST under his belt, he is excited to see both new and familiar faces again this year. “The best thing about all this is the feedback,” says Vesselinov. “Usually an artist just stays alone with his work. Suddenly you have all the public coming to your place and everybody has something to say, it’s awesome.” For more information about Venz Vesselinov, visit venz-art.com or westendstudiotour.ca. Story and photo by Neil McKinnon
Hampton Park resident and West End Studio Tour (WEST) participant Manju Sah loves sharing inspiration she gets out of nature, particularly from her garden, and this is expressed in her art.
“Art evokes emotion and feelings in people. It’s about communication.” “My art is based on what I see. I explore what inspiration my garden gives me and I paint,” says Sah. Motivation to create her art from nature did not come by chance for Sah. Born and raised in Northern India near the Nepal border, Sah spent her childhood near mountains. When she immigrated to Canada in 1974, she attended the University of British Columbia (UBC) and graduated with a Master’s in English Literature. As a student, having those west coast mountains nearby, helped Sah
transition into WEST artist Manju Sah Canadian life. She also felt acceptance finds all the inspiration amongst her new Canadian friends, she needs in her garden. which helped her get over the loneliness of being in a new country. “I grew up in a beautiful area full of mountains. Moving to BC was not a huge stretch from such natural beauty but it was a huge extension of it,” says Sah. “What I had to get used to was living on my own, understanding culture through daily interaction. Studying at UBC was good for me because there were a lot of international students and I loved Vancouver.” Reflecting on her Canadian life and becoming an artist in adulthood, the now retired public servant looks at her work and wants to let people know that good artists don’t necessarily get their start in childhood. As she puts it: age is merely a number. Sah took up art 20 years ago after receiving a box of acrylic paints from brother-in-law and famed American wildlife artist, Joseph Hautman. She was hooked. “Joe totally encouraged me. Whenever I visit my sister, Joe and I paint together,” says Sah. “Whenever
I’m done with a painting I’ll send it to him for critique. Painting is a solo thing and it helps to get good information afterwards.” Sah says studying poetry early in life helped her eventual shift to painting because she realized how closely related literature and symbolism is to visual art. “English is all about expression, and so is art, because a picture says a thousand words.… When I started to paint, it was a direct connection. Art evokes emotion and feelings in people. It’s about communication. I love sharing that connection with people who come to our tours,” says Sah. For more information about Manju Sah’s work, contact her via email at manjusah@rogers.com or go to westendstudiotour.ca. Meet the other WEST artists in this issue and online at Kitchissippi.com.

Wendy Feldberg Art inspired by things that grow
Story and photo by Jack Lawson
Hintonburg artist Wendy Feldburg’s passion is rooted in her garden.
For Wendy Feldberg, inspiration can come in the form of a falling leaf. “One day I was bathing a piece of fabric in vinegar, after using nails to create rust stains,” says Feldberg. “A leaf fell on the fabric. I left it, and when I came back it had imprinted on the design.” Feldberg specializes in the art of ecodyeing, or contact printing. To create designs, Feldberg uses the pigments extracted from plants to colour different textured fabrics, like paper or silk. Feldberg soaks the fabric in water mixed with a mordant, or binding agent for the dye. She then wraps the fabric around a leaf or piece of plant matter and steams the bundle over high heat for an hour. The resulting fabric can be a swath of gentle purples, pulled from a maple leaf,

Mandel’s neighbour Paula Zoubek had seen these paintings through the open windows. “I finally knocked on the front door, my curiosity having gotten the better of me, and asked if I could see them,” Zoubek says. Zoubek is also an artist, and a participant in the West End Studio Tour (WEST). She thought her neighbour’s wall coverings were “amazing” and encouraged Mandel to join the tour. So it is that this year, for the first time, Mandel is part of the illustrious WEST roster. The Moldova-born artist studied fine arts in Russia and graphic design at Algonquin College. She also has a background in oil painting and interior design that collectively inform her handmade wall coverings and custom murals. Mandel will be showing her large-scale paintings at her home off Island Park Drive. Some of her bigger-than-life acrylic pieces resemble peacock feathers, leopard spots or zebra stripes. They are designed to make a bold statement, to be the focal point of a room. “You hang one of these above your couch in a condo, add some accent pillows and your room is done,” she says. Drawing on her background in interior design, Mandel carefully considers how her art will work with its surroundings, especially when she makes custom wall coverings. She notes that it is amazing to see how a mural or decorative wall covering can add so much to a room. “It transforms a space in a couple of hours,” she says. Her work decorates homes of the rich and famous, especially in California, and is receiving interest from around the world. Because she usually works on wallpaper, she can create a piece in her home, then ship it anywhere in the world. Her international network of interior designers ensures that each piece is hung by a professional. “I love what I do,” she says. “I get ideas from everywhere.” The inspiration to handpaint wallpaper came to her after visiting chateaus in southern France. In Europe, handmade wallpaper dates back to the 16th century. Mandel had since found a unique niche as an artist. Her company, Actual Design & Décor, engages high-end clients from across North America who were looking for customized art to showcase in their homes. To create her intricate and bold pieces, Mandel pays attention to the smallest details and does careful research before creating a new design. She even visits zoos so she can see the coats and colourings of exotic animals up close. Recently she has begun experimenting with marble backsplashes decorated in gold leaf. “It’s very interesting to work with,” she says. “There are lots of opportunities.” Mandel is looking forward to being part of WEST and hopes that the weather will cooperate so that she can display art both indoors and in her backyard. For more information about Tatiana Mandel, visit actdesigndecor.com or westendstudiotour.ca. Meet the other WEST artists in this issue and online at Kitchissippi.com.

Paul Wing
Photography-based digital art awaits visitors at this stop along the WEST route
Story and photo by Jack Lawson
When local artist Paul Wing was diagnosed with Parkinson’s he revisited his first love – the camera. Wing worked as a videographer for 37 years before Parkinson’s forced him to retire. Almost immediately, he began taking pictures again. At the advice of a friend, he also began exhibiting them. “Seven years ago I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s,” says Wing, one of the 16 artists on this year’s West End Studio Tour. “I worked for a year and a half, until I couldn’t anymore. As soon as I retired I pulled out my old Nikon cameras and started shooting.” Much of this love of photography can be attributed to Wing’s father, an amateur photographer. As a child Wing once borrowed his father’s camera and went out into the snow to capture chickadees in flight.
Garden art Continued from page 4 and her husband lived in the Glebe. During the downsizing process Feldberg decided to put to use her collection of vintage fabrics. A committed gardener, Feldberg researched the ways to combine these two parts of her
“I was about 11 or 12, it was one day in November… I lay in a snow bank for an hour shooting chickadees. When I got the film back it was ridiculous – just little black specks,” laughs Wing. “That was probably when I started to become an amateur photographer.” These days Wing works just as much with digital media as he does the traditional tripod and camera combination. Wing’s style, occasionally described as “painterly,” is achieved through the careful planning of a few photographs and the technological magic of Photoshop. Typically Wing will take between 25-50 photos when on a shoot. These pictures are then refined and finessed for hours with editing software until the otherworldly colours or transparent figures present in so much of his work come to the fore. “I guess I’m a wannabe painter,” says

Currently Feldberg is working with a combination of scrolls and imprinting. In one example she created an autumnal catalogue by imprinting a number of plants gathered in October into a folding scroll. Feldberg’s garden is a riot of greenery. Each plant has its place and its purpose, according to
Feldberg. She specializes in plants native to Canada: maple, sycamore, and coreopsis. During frequent excursions into Ottawa’s fields Feldberg also gathers plants for the dyeing process. As the seasons begin to change, and the summer drifts further away, Feldberg remains committed to not only her work,

Giving new life to the rusty bits we throw away
Story and photo by Andrea Tomkins
Clare Brennan is a collector and a scavenger as much as he is an artist. His sculptures – wooden beings which hover somewhere between playful robots and curious cousins of Pinocchio – are all made out of found objects, bits and pieces Brennan often finds on his walk to work. In fact, he has been known to peek in neighbourhood garbage cans, which can throw home owners for a bit of a loop if they see him. Wood makes up the base of most of his work, but it has to be the right

KT WEST END STUDIO TOUR PREVIEW
Jeff Wiebe
Sketches of nature from the city
By Jack Lawson
The first time Jeff Wiebe took a commission as an artist, his buyer, a high school teacher, paid with a toonie. “I think I just sort of stared at him in shock,” says Wiebe. “It was a bit of a locker-door slamming kind of moment – a hard lesson. It taught me to be more particular, and to be wary.” Despite this somewhat rocky beginning, Wiebe has been drawing, sketching, and painting for thirty years. Much of his work focuses on the natural world. After graduating from the Alberta College of Art and Design, Wiebe began working as an illustrator with the Prince Albert National Park in Saskatchewan. Wiebe worked there for four summers, drawing park wildlife and set designs for plays put on by park staffers. It was there that he developed the pen and ink style that would define his work. “I started, because of the national park job, working with the pens. I used architectural pens, and I ended up using them totally incorrectly,” says Wiebe. “I’d madly crosshatch, and the pens would kind of just get burnished down.” Many of Wiebe’s pieces are crosshatched animals that show off exaggerated features: crows with large eyes, and a lynx being slowly expelled from a chimney as a cloud of smoke.
As a boy, Wiebe was fascinated with large animals. One of his strongest memories is the systematic redrawing of bison, over, and over, and over. “I remember being really into drawing bison when I was a kid. I drew with BIC pens in black ink. This was actually the start of my first commission,” says Wiebe, smiling wryly. These days Wiebe works with paints and brushes as well as pen and paper. This came about after a bout of tendonitis, which made the repetitive motion of crosshatching difficult. Despite the injury, Wiebe keeps up with his pen and ink style. He often finds inspiration from photos taken in the field. Upon moving to Ottawa, Wiebe discovered Gatineau Park, where he sketched birds and other animals. These sketches were re-worked into finished pieces. Inspiration, however, can strike at any time, says Weibe, not just during a trip to Ottawa’s prodigious network of parks. “There was a period where we drove along [highway 7] quite a lot,” says Wiebe. “I drew several different pictures of the same old oak tree. We’d pull over and I’d draw it. Again and again.” For more information, visit westendstudiotour.ca. Meet the other WEST artists in this issue and online at Kitchissippi.com.

Job Interviewers Wanted

Wellington St. West In Bloom A new jewel flowers in Hintonburg By Joanne Lovett Potter A wonderful place to live, to visit and shop, Hintonburg has emerged as an exciting and dynamic community and among its new attractions is the Wellington St. W. Garden located between Marche Hintonburg Market and 1041 Wellington St. W. A small strip of land that once attracted only litter has been transformed into a pleasing slice of urban greenery. Jim Diers, an international speaker, gave Ottawa an inspiring presentation in April 2013 on how it takes just a few willing and committed people to change their community. Hintonburg residents led by Cheryl Parrott and Wayne Rodney in 2007-2008, and with the co-operation of lot owners Jacques and Louyse Trottier, and

enthusiastic volunteers with donations of perennials, transformed an unsightly vacant lot into an attractive community garden making this area safer and more enjoyable. As the lot had no water supply, OCH, the adjacent landlord, has agreed to allow the use of its water when needed. This year, with inspiration from the Westboro NCC Maplelawn Garden, local gardener Joanne Lovett Potter has transformed the Wellington St. West Garden into a mini country garden with beautiful flowers attracting bees and butterflies and scampering squirrels looking for tasty bulbs. Passersby are invited to stop and visit as you browse in Hintonburg, take some pictures as the seasons change, and pause to feel its healing energy.

By Tim Thibeault Imagine you are conducting interviews to find just the right employee for a job that would affect your personal comfort for years to come. More than just mowing a lawn, this employee would have to decide on the topography of the yard, the type of grass, flowers and trees to be planted, where the walkways and fountains will go, how much traffic will pass by, and every other aspect of how your yard will turn out. Imagine that the responsibilities of the job are so important that you will pay about $93,000. a year to have it done right. How concerned would you be that the person you hire should be capable of doing the job? Would you have some specific questions to ask? Would you research what the new job-holder has done, could do, and might do? Would you think of how you might expect this new employee of yours to perform? Or would you let someone else make all those decisions without you? How well would you trust a stranger to have your best interests at heart? On October 27 this year, you will be hiring someone to do just such a job. Ready or not, you will be hiring a City Councillor for Ward 15 – your neighbourhood. There are now 4 people who are interested (one has dropped out), and they have been trying to reach you for some time. In the next 2 months, they will try even harder. Voter turnout in civic elections is rarely high enough for
any one candidate to declare victory by a true majority of eligible voters. This is because most often, approximately one half of (sometimes even fewer) eligible voters take the trouble to vote. The winner is usually chosen by a concerted, and concerned, minority. Too often, the majority of voters is just not that inspired by the choices offered. Or, perhaps they just don’t understand. Maybe they just trust strangers to choose for them. In the last civic election, Kitchissippi Ward tied with Bay Ward for second highest voter turnout in the city. Only 51 per cent of eligible voters took part. Capitol Ward had a 52 per cent voter turnout for first place. Certainly the issues affect voter turnout. So too, does awareness and involvement by new voters in each election. Newswest’s goal in 2014 is to increase voter turnout in Ward 15 neighbourhoods. To that end, we need a strategy to appeal to all voters. We need “Job Interviewers.” We invite you, our readers, to send us your questions and concerns – and the responses you would expect. We will ask each of the remaining candidates a selection of your questions, and report back to you in our next issue. You can email your questions to editor@newswest.org by Sept. 18 to give the candidates some time to reply. For further details on Ottawa’s Election 2014, visit newswest.org

By Allyson Domanski Hintonburg has a new free community service. If ever you need someone to talk to, The Walk-in Counselling Clinic can provide immediate support to individuals, couples and families struggling to strike a balance with a variety of life challenges. The clinic treats issues related to mental health, emotional health and addictions. Services are accessible to all regardless of ethnicity, race, age, ability, gender, sexual orientation, income, and political or religious affiliation. The clinic is located within Family Services Ottawa at 312 Parkdale Avenue. This no-fee service is operational at six different locations seven days a week but in our neighbourhood, its hours are Tuesdays noon to 8:00p.m. (last walk-in session, 6:30p.m.) and Saturdays noon to 5:00p.m. (last walkin, 3:30p.m.) Clients are seen on a first-come, first-served basis. No referrals or appointments are necessary. Just do as the name says and walk in. “All of us, at some time in our lives, can find ourselves facing unexpected challenges,” explained Rebecca Fromowitz, Assistant Director of Jewish Family Services Ottawa, the lead agency for The Walk-in Counselling Clinic. “For this reason, we want to make sure that people know we are here when they most need support, and that help can be immediate and accessible.” By providing support to people when they are most in need and most open to make a change, professional counsellors at The Walk-in Counselling Clinic can help prevent situations from
escalating into a crisis. Until now, people seeking immediate counselling and support had to be referred by health care providers and social service agencies. Research shows that the role of walk-in clinics has been considerable in reducing pressure and wait times on primary and emergency health care. Family Services Ontario estimates the health care cost savings for Ontario are approximately 10 million dollars per year. Furthermore, the majority of Ontario walk-in clinic clients report significant improvements in their wellbeing, including a reduction of stress and negative symptoms. Over 50% of clients required no further service after visiting a walk-in counselling clinic. The clinic has already provided immediate crisis counselling and support to over seven hundred people in the Greater Ottawa, North Renfrew and Cornwall areas. The Ottawa clinic, a partnership of five family service agencies in the Champlain region and funded by the Champlain Local Health Integration Network, is one of 34 walkin counselling clinics operating in Ontario. In order to reach a large and diverse audience and better inform the general public about its free services, The Walk-in Counselling Clinic recently launched a website (www.walkincounselling.com), a Twitter profile (@walkincounsel) and a Facebook page (/ TheWalkInCounsellingClinic). By Jennifer McKenzie, OCDSB Trustee for Kitchissippi and Somerset Wards Welcome back to school everyone! Didn’t the summer just fly by! I hope you are well rested and relaxed, and ready to jump back into a regular school and work schedule. Please take extra care when operating vehicles on the roads this fall. Children are being encouraged to walk, bike and roll to school with our new, green, walk to school initiatives. Children and their families are out on the sidewalks and yes in the roads. They can dart in front of you with little notice. Slow down whenever you see our young pedestrians and pay close attention while you drive. Never pass a bus with flashing lights!
Capital Pride Parade I am very proud that the Ottawa Carleton District School Board has had a contingent in the Capital Pride Parade every summer since 2011. This year students, families, neighbours and friends marched alongside school staff on Sunday August 24 to demonstrate that we are a safe, caring and inclusive organization. We are usually one of the biggest groups in the parade! We started this practice when Donna Blackburn, our first openly gay trustee, asked if we could participate in Capital Pride. Consistent with our stated policy of inclusion, it was an easy answer. Since then, the ripple effect on the organization has been profound. It is now part of our culture to be open and inclusive of all students and all families and indeed all community members. It affects the attitudes and the dialogues both inside and outside of the classroom and in the community.
Trustee Elections and My Plans As many of you know, trustees are elected on the same ballot as our City Council representatives. After eight years of serving as your trustee, I have decided not to run again this time. It has been a tremendous pleasure looking after the public schools in Kitchissippi and Somerset Wards and I often have felt as though I have 70,000 kids to watch over. Thank you for allowing me the honour of serving as your representative on the school board!
Broadview PS Rebuild Trustees voted to allocate the funds required for the rebuilding of Broadview Public School in June. Only $5.3 Million of the required $15 Million was provided by the Ministry with the rest to be made up by the Board. These funds will come from a reserve containing proceeds of disposition (sale of school board properties). Traditionally, this fund is used extensively for schools across the region to make up for unavoidable cost overruns and general underfunding for capital projects from the Ministry. We are fortunate that trustees agreed to use it towards Broadview. Architectural drawings are being prepared and a public meeting will be scheduled during the Fall. You should know that underfunding of a school rebuild in this way is unprecedented at the OCDSB. Of the over

Cst Neilly’s Neighbourhood
An Ounce of Prevention... By Cst Dawn Neilly I hope everyone has had a good summer and is looking forward to getting into the swing of the “new year.” I’ve had a busy summer visiting new businesses in the area, getting safety messages out to youths and speaking with lots of folks in the neighbourhood about various safety issues. As I’m relatively new to most community members, let me start by saying that I think community police centres (CPCs) are a vital tool when it comes to crime prevention. They complement the work done by Patrol and Neighbourhood Officers who are out protecting our city streets, on foot, on bicycle and in cruisers. You might say that, vis-à-vis crime, the CPCs are more of a before the fact operation, while the Patrol Officers see crime after the fact. The aim of the CPC is to keep crime from happening in the first place, mostly through encouraging community awareness and involvement. The area covered by the Wellington

CPC is large with a dense population, so as long as there are Patrol Officers out there as first responders, my time is better used with availability to speak with residents about on-going issues and come up with strategies to deal with them over the long term. By all means, come in and talk to me about any concerns you experience in the neighbourhood and we can use that as a starting point to discuss long-term solutions to assist you in the future. If you simply wish to make a report of a single incident in order to have it recorded for future reference, it’s best to call 613-236-1222, ext. 7300 or you can go on line at ottawapolice.ca. My volunteers and I will be attending several fall events which will give us a chance to meet you and assist with any questions you may have about our ongoing crime prevention programs. review of adjacent school space as was required by the school board and as Broadview was required to do. Orleans is an area of the city where enrolment is declining in several adjacent schools. Broadview was second on our priority list. As your trustee, I have
fought since the beginning to have a fair share of provincial capital funds directed to projects inside the greenbelt. I believe that the way the Ministry chose to fund this project sends precisely the wrong message to the community about the value it places on inner city schools.

HCA Annual General Meeting
Come one, come all
By Matt Whitehead, HCA President The Hintonburg Community Association (HCA) will be holding its AGM at the Hintonburg Community Centre on Tuesday, September 23rd from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. 2014 has been another busy year with a great run of events – from our most successful Craft Fair to date, to a return to summer movie nights. HCA continues to work with the City to deal with the effects of the LRT construction. It has been a chal-
lenging discussion at times. The impact on the community during the bus detour onto Scott/Albert is not trivial, especially for those who live on or near Scott St. The association will continue to keep the community informed of the ongoing impacts and scheduling of route changes etc. Once the LRT is completed, it is likely to be a key priority for the community to ensure that Scott St. turns out as envisioned in the CDP. We need to start now to ensure the City allocates the appropriate funding in 2018.
Let the Young Ones Sing! Movie night returns to the Burg
www.parkdale-dental.com ...over 60 years welcoming patients in Hintonburg & Westboro
By Paulette Dozois Our little village was bursting with song on Saturday 23 August at the Hintonburg Free Summer Movie Night! If you were passing the HCC around 7:00 p.m. you would have heard many young voices singing every song from the movie FROZEN. Free Movie Night was back in the hood and the suggestion of FROZEN as the lead movie was just right! Many of you know that the HCA and the HCC have hosted free outdoor movie nights for over 10 years now. Our great successes have been
movies such as Slumdog Millionaire and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Last year we had a spanner thrown in the works when we were informed that we were breaking the Copyright legislation by not paying the requisite fees. We thought our free movie nights were a thing of the past. Not so as this year the HCA decided to regroup and pay for one Hintonburg movie night for summer 2014 (which cost us approximately $400.00 for both movies) and what a success it was! Approximately 60 viewers showed up and had a won-
Lots of development and zoning work in addition to the CDP has kept the Zoning Committee especially busy. They led our involvement in two OMB hearings regarding Holland and Armstrong Avenues. More volunteers to help with that workload would be greatly appreciated. The AGM gives residents a chance to discuss those areas on which the HCA should focus in the coming year. Our purpose is to support residents in the issues that affect our community. The AGM is open to the public but only paid members may vote to elect the next year’s board. The membership table will be open from 6:30 p.m. for people to renew, or join the HCA. derful time as the young ones knew the words to EVERY song. The second movie was Ghostbusters and Dan Akyrod, Bill Murray and their spooky friends still have fans in Hintonburg as it was very well attended too. The HCA and HCC are happy to collaborate on this event. This partnership continues to work well. We also want to thank Donna Blake and Kody Ferreira for their continued volunteer work with our movie night. Donna is the hood’s best popcorn maker and the movies would not be a success without her. Kody keeps things going with his enthusiasm and help. Both deserve recognition for their contributions to the success of movie night in Hintonburg.

How School Districts Affect Property Value Q: Does having a quality school nearby really affect the value of my home? John King
Broker at Royal LePage Team Realty
1433 Wellington Street West, Suite 113 613.695.8181 info@johnkingteam.com
A: Aside from the changing of the leaves, September means
one thing for most people: back to school season. Schools play an integral role in the real estate market; buyers with families place a ton of importance on making sure their new home is close to a quality school for their children. What does that mean for sellers? Recent research has shown that a home near a top school is far more likely to fetch a premium price. An American study performed in 2013 by Redfin found that a property located nearby a quality school received an average of $50 per square foot more than homes outside a respected school district. Additionally, these homes had more stable values and were less likely to succumb to fluctuating market conditions. Westboro-Wellington has some of the best schools in the city, which is part of why it’s such an attractive area to buyers. There are several other factors to consider when selling your home in addition to school districts, and a great Realtor will be able to navigate all of them to ensure your property is sold for top dollar in minimum time.
Contact John King, Broker or a member of his team to learn more about how schools affect the value of your home.
