The Athens Eye Hospital is an internationally acclaimed Hospital and a place where serious and complex ophthalmological problems can be treated. Specialist ophthalmologists, in collaboration with a team of opticians, optometrists and nurses specialising in ophthalmological cases, work together to secure the divine gift of sight. Through our state of the artmolecular biology laboratory we have the ambition to be the pioneers of the revolution towards the gene therapy of retinal disorders. The Hospital is an international leader in the treatment of intraocular tumours and the treatment of various retinal disorders, such as macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. It comprises of departments that specialise in these disorders and presents international clinical and research works. The Hospital specialises in the treatment of paediatric conditions, such as congenital cataract, strabismus and paediatric glaucoma. The Refractive Surgery department, which treats myopia, hyperopia & astigmatism, is equipped with stateof-the-art technology for the treatment of the most common refractive disorders as well as certain forms of presbyopia. The Hospital operates a special department for the treatment of keratoconus, a condition that affects a significant number of individuals in the reproductive phase of their lives. We have the leading Femtosecond Laser system, which is a revolution in the field of cataract surgery, corneal transplants as well as other conditions of the ocular surface. Finally, given that we all believe that the dissemination and propagation of knowledge should be complete and unrestricted, the Athens Eye Hospital has invested in the education of ophthalmologists by installing the unique VRmagic simulator system, aspiring that way to become the educational reference centre, not only in Greece, but also in the neighbouring Balkan countries and the Middle East.

Excellent Medical Treatment
Athens Eye Hospital’s specialist doctors work in collaboration with the extensive Network of Associates. Scientists in the fields of Ocular Genetics, Molecular Biology, Pharmacology and Biochemistry offer top level complete medical treatment for all kinds of ophthalmologic cases, no matter how rare or serious they may be.
9
Early diagnosis By using state-of-the art equipment such as RETcam, UBM, Multifocal ERG and SLO Microperimetry we are capable of ensuring a timely and reliable diagnosis of any vision-threatening condition, no matter how simple or complex it may be.
Effective treatment We continuously develop and implement pioneer specialized treatments for serious conditions including cataract, glaucoma, eye tumours, as well as innovative techniques in refractive surgery, paediatric ophthalmology and ocular genetics.

Department of Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus
At the department of Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus at Athens Eye Hospital premature infants can, among other things, be screened for retinopathy of prematurity. The screening is conducted by using a specialized RetCam device and the treatment is done by relevant Laser techniques. In addition, the department treats neonatal cataract and children’s glaucoma, as well as all forms of strabismus.

Macular Centre
Ocular Oncology
Presbyopia Study Unit
We apply innovative methods of pharmaceutical therapy with biological agents of various forms of age-related macular degeneration. Athens Eye Hospital also operates the exclusive centre for surgical treatment of various forms of degenerative AMD, performing operations such as macular translocation and surgical excision of sub-retinal membranes.
Athens Eye Hospital is a pioneer in the treatment of choroidal melanoma. This is an innovational method in tumour removal without the need of excision the whole eyeball. The excised melanoma is histologically examined for specific genetic profile, the existence of which indicates a higher metastatic potential.
By applying the cuttingedge UBM technology it is possible to visualize the accommodation process. The abovementioned technology examines the behaviour of different intraocular (Premium) lenses used to correct presbyopia.

Ocular Genetics
Athens Eye Hospital has a specialized ocular genetics department for the detection of specific genes. Some ocular diseases, such as retinitis pigmentosa, Stargardt’s Disease and Leber’s Disease, have a proven genetic cause, while the presence or absence of specific genes mutations result in reduced or increased risk of incidence of diseases such as glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration.
Research & Education Athens Eye Hospital contributes to medical science and ophthalmology progress with a modern scientific library that has research and scientific publications, educational programmes and training courses in new surgical techniques, using simulation technology (Dry Lab and Wet Lab).
Education and scientific training Athens Eye Hospital contributes to the advance and scientific training of young ophthalmologists through special simulators (Eyesi by VRmagic) not only to improve their surgical performance but also to improve their skills in various ophthalmoscopic techniques.
