SPECIAL HOLSTEIN/HOLSTEIN CROSS STEER AUCTION

STATE AND FEDERAL REPORTING Compared to last month: Holstein steers under 800 lbs were 14.00 – 16.00 lower. Over 800 lbs Holstein steers mostly steady on a thin comparison. Trade activity was moderate and buyer demand was light. The supply consisted of approximately 77% Holstein steers with the balance being mostly Holstein cross steers, Jersey steers Jersey cross steers and Holstein heifers. Approximately 18% of the supply weighed over 600 lbs. The next special Holstein feeder cattle sale will be held on Monday, October 5, 2015.

STATE AND FEDERAL REPORTING Compared to a week ago: Slaughter lambs were mostly 10.00 lower and feeder lambs were mostly steady on comparable tests. Slaughter ewes traded steady to 3.00 lower and slaughter bucks were steady to 10.00 lower. Slaughter kids traded mostly steady to 5.00 – 10.00 lower, while nannies traded steady to 5.00 higher and billies traded unevenly steady. Trade activity was good and demand was moderate. In the sheep supply 51% slaughter lambs, 13% feeder lambs, 36% slaughter ewes and bucks. The goat supply consisted of 77% slaughter kids, 15% slaughter nannies and the balance slaughter billies and wethers. Sheep and lambs sold on a per cwt basis and goats sold on a per head basis unless otherwise noted.
