STATE AND FEDERAL REPORTING Compared to a week ago: Slaughter lambs traded steady to 10.00 higher in most weight ranges. Feeder lambs had too light of a test to accurately trend. Slaughter ewes were unevenly steady, but a firm undertone was observed. In the goats, slaughter kids traded steady to weak. Slaughter nannies were mostly steady to 10.00 lower. Trade activity was good and demand was moderate to good. In the sheep supply 46% slaughter lambs, 9% feeder lambs, 45%slaugther ewes and bucks. The supply consisted of 73% slaughter kids, 18% slaughter nannies, and the balance slaughter billies and wethers. Sheep and lambs sold on a per cwt basis and goats sold on a per head basis unless otherwise noted.

STATE AND FEDERAL REPORTING Compared to a week ago: Trade Activity and buyer demand was moderate to good. The run comprised of preconditioned calves and yearlings, some being long weaned. Most of the feeder supply had been vaccinated in the spring with some also in the fall. Feeder steers under 650 lbs traded mostly 1.00 – 8.00 lower with steers over 650 lbs too lightly tested to compare to the prior week. Feeder heifers under 800 lbs traded mostly 7.00 lower with instances of sharply lower and heifers over 800 lbs were too lightly tested to compared to the prior week, but sharply higher undertones were noted on replacement quality heifers. The supply consisted of approximately 91% feeder cattle with the balance as bred cows and cow/calf pairs. In the feeder supply, 49% steers and 51% heifers with 44% of the supply weighing over 600 lbs. The next available report will be on November 19, 2015 for another preconditioned calf and yearling and bred cow auction. FEDERAL & STATE MARKET NEWS REPORTING Compared to a week ago: there was not enough slaughter cows and bulls last week for an adequate market test as most of the cows were brought to go back on feed. A weaker undertone is noted. Feeder cattle traded steady to 10.00 lower. Trade activity and buyer demand was good. The supply was comprised of approximately 45% slaughter cows and bulls and the balance being feeding cows.

Gains realized in last week’s market were lost today as the market declined in all classes of slaughter cattle. Beef cows averaged lower by $3-4 and Holsteins by $5-6. Lean beef cows who were on the younger side and in very good body condition ranged in the upper $70s to low $80s. Those who were older, but still in good condition averaged in the mid $70s. Fleshy beef cows ranged 82.50-88.00. Holstein slaughter cows showed a sharper decline than their beef counterparts, with the younger fleshier cows ranging $66.50-74.00. Today’s feeder sale included several of whom whose purchase price will be donated to the Boys and Girls Club of Weld County. Also, quality feeders from Kremmling, Walden and Evanston, WY.
