Compared to last month: Trade activity was moderate on light buyer demand. Holstein steers and heifers across all weight classes traded sharply lower than the prior month. The majority of the steers weighed 350 – 450 lbs. The supply consisted of approximately 77% Holstein steers with the balance being Jersey steers, Jersey cross steers and Holstein heifers. Approximately 16% of the supply weighed over 600 lbs. The next special Holstein feeder cattle auction will be held on Monday, January 4, 2016. STATE AND FEDERAL REPORTING Compared to a week ago: Slaughter lambs traded unevenly steady. Feeder lambs were steady to sharply lower on comparable tests. Slaughter ewes traded mostly steady. In goats, slaughter kids traded steady to 5.00 lower. Slaughter nannies were 5.00 – 20.00 higher. Trade activity was good and demand was very good. In the sheep supply 31% slaughter lambs, 40% feeder lambs, 29% slaughter ewes and bucks. The goat supply consisted of 67% slaughter kids, 23% slaughter nannies and the balance slaughter billies and wethers. Wednesday, December 9, 2015 Following a disappointing futures market last week, this week’s slaughter market averaged $10 back from the December 2nd sale. As the day went on, prices continued to tumble. Holstein slaughter cows in the morning averaged in the high $50s to low $60s for lean cows in good condition, however, by the afternoon prices were consistently in the mid to upper $50s for like cattle. Beef cows ranged $61-69 for lean, with choice beef cows ranging $69-72. We had some nice Holstein feeding heifers
