Welcome to the 2016 Arts Picnic! For many people the Arts Picnic is a much anticipated event that happens mid-summer, but is always here “before you know it.” School lets out, July 4th fireworks fill the sky, and in what seems like the blink of an eye, this fun festival is upon us. City staff, volunteers, musicians, artists and crafters, food vendors and beer servers all appear – and in their wake historic Lincoln Park comes alive. Thousands of festival-goers arrive to stroll through over 150 vendor booths featuring notable Colorado artists and craftspeople in addition to visiting talents from all over the US selling everything from watercolors to wearable art to ceramics and more. Those with a passion for music spend the weekend in front of two stages enjoying a wide range of entertainment offered by some of the best local and regional performers playing big-band to bluegrass, folk to funk, honky-tonk to indie-rock, and yes . . . even Elvis! Not to mention roaming stilt walkers, balloon twisters, magicians, clowns, and fairies providing spontaneous amusement throughout the park! Kids become pint-sized Picassos and mini-Mozarts in the Creation Station where a child’s imagination is sparked and creativity is encouraged with make’n’take art projects and hands-on musical activities. Friends and family gather in the food court for fabulous festival fare or meet in the beer garden for a cold brew conveniently located close to Center Stage. So whether you’re in the mood to buy one-of-a-kind handmade arts and crafts, devour delicious food and drink, listen to great music, or just relax in the beer garden, you can do it all at the 38th annual Arts Picnic. It’s truly a feast of fun for everyone!

Self-taught artist Saul Lerma’s collection includes artistic expressions of his fond feelings for Spanish missions of the southwest and western heritage captured in antique wood rescued from C o l o r a d o ’s rural Weld C o u n t y. Many

stories are also captured in pieces of wood that Saul uses to create his beautiful crosses, symbols and reminders of an intersection. Make a point to stop by Booth #164 and talk to Saul about his awe-inspiring creations.

Having wonderful memories as a young girl working in her grandfather’s garden and her grandmother teaching her how to make soap, Dawn Swanbon uses these life lessons to create incredible goat milk lotions a n d soaps. Like her

grandmother, Dawn uses only natural ingredients-many of which are grown in the Swanbon family garden. Dawn ‘til Dusk and their matriarch goat Ruby, invite you to discover their gifts from the garden (and their goats) in B o o t h #120.

a n d h e r husband moved into the mountains of northern Colorado where she returned to her artwork painting and making beautiful unique jewelry using natural stones and semi-precious gems. You’ll find Linda’s gorgeous wearable art in Booth #128!

Pam Hostetler P a m Hostetler is a wellk n o w n Colorado watercolor artist who has been drawing and painting since childhood. She has been working in watercolor exclusively for the last 15 years painting many subjects including landscapes, flow-

ers, people and animals. Mixing water and paint to achieve the best emotional response is exciting to her. See how you respond to Pam’s amazing and awardwinning artwork in Booth #170.

Volunteers:

Without dedicated volunteers, much of the work required to make the Arts Picnic such a success could not be done. There are over 100 volunteers who help throughout the three-day event as ‘Art’bassadors, checking in vendors and booth-sitting, staffing the information booth, assisting in Creation Station and so much more. The steering committee, which organizes the Arts Picnic, is composed of a volunteer board of Greeley citizens and City staff. For more information about volunteering at the 2017 Arts Picnic, visit the information booth or call 350-9451.
