NATIONAL PERFORMERS Walter Trout
We are so happy to have Walter Trout returning to the GBJ. He first played the GBJ in 2008. In 1981 Walter became the guitarist for Canned Heat. This led to an invitation to play in John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers where he shared the stage with fellow guitarist Coco Montoya, another GBJ alumnus, circa 2009. In 2013, his album, Luther’s Blues, was nominated for a Blues Music Award in the ‘Rock Blues Album of the Year’ category. In June 2013, Trout got the first signs that he was suffering from cirrhosis of the liver. With his heath deteriorating, he continued to tour until
Kansas City-based Samantha Fish has been on a major roll. It hasn’t been that long since a teenaged Samantha Fish first started showing up at her local Kansas City blues club, Knuckleheads Saloon, and began soaking up the sounds of visiting modern blues guitar masters like Mike Zito and Tab Benoit, both featured performers at previous GBJ’s, then going back to ’80s heroes like Stevie Ray Vaughan. By the age of 18, Samantha had settled on a searing lead guitar style that expressed her own voice. She has served an apprenticeship
told he needed a liver transplant within 90 days. Supported by donations from fans, his wife raised the money needed for the operation. In 2015 Trout had recovered and continued his musical career. His 2015 album, Battle Scars, chronicles his battle with liver failure. In 2016, he won two Blues Music Awards for “Gonna Live Again” (Song of the Year), and the Rock Blues Album of the Year for Battle Scars. We are so happy to have Walter back to good health and playing once more at the 2017 Greeley Blues Jam
Samantha Fish
that has tightened her musical chops, polished her stagecraft and gave her the grit to overcome occasional skepticism about her age, hair tone and gender. “I always hated the idea of the gimmick,”. “People come out just because you are a girl, but then you have so much more to prove once you get them in the door.” Samantha has delivered on that promise. We are all thrilled that her schedule has allowed her to make Greeley a stop on her 2017 Summer tour.
Honey Island Swamp Band
Great music begins with great songs, and great songs are what the Honey Island Swamp Band is all about. Honey Island Swamp Band‘s music has been described as “Bayou Americana” with timeless songs highlighted by Mulé’s searing lead guitar, Wilkinson’s sure-handed mandolin, and 4-part vocal harmonies, all anchored by the powerful groove of Price & Paul’s Louisiana stomp rhythm section. The addition of Trevor Brooks on Hammond B-3 organ to the HISB family in 2010 has rounded out the band’s sound,
which draws from a variety of influences in the world of roots music, including artists such as Lowell George and Little Feat, The Band, Taj Mahal, Gram Parsons, Jerry Garcia, Johnny Cash, Jimmy Reed, Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown, and New Orleans’ own Earl King and Dr. John. We have been listening to and enjoying Honey Island Swamp Band at their several performances at the New Orleans Jazz Fest. We are very happy to present them to the GBJ audience for the first time.

NATIONAL PERFORMERS
Lil’ Ed and the Blues Imperials In Chicago, a city overflowing with unrivaled blues talent, world-renowned Lil’ Ed & The Blues Imperials have been standing tall for almost 30 years. The band’s big sound, fueled by Lil’ Ed’s gloriously rollicking slide work and deep blues string bending, along with his rough-edged, soulful vocals, is as real and hard-hitting as Chicago blues gets. Lil’ Ed Williams comes to the blues naturally. His uncle, Chicago slide guitar king and master songwriter J.B. Hutto, taught him how to feel, not
Austin, Texas-based guitarist, singer, interpreter and songwriter Guy Forsyth is like a lot of Austin musicians. He leads his own band, as well as a group called the Asylum Street Spankers; when he’s not performing with either of these groups locally, you can find Forsyth sitting in with someone else just for kicks. Forsyth is a rare combination: he’s a talented guitarist, singer and songwriter, but also a diligent, conscientious student of blues, blues-rock and other indigenous folk music. Guy is known today as a musician with
just play the blues. Nine albums and thousands of performances later, Lil’ Ed is now universally hailed as a giant of the genre. Lil’ Ed and The Blues Imperials—bassist James “Pookie”Young, guitarist Mike Garrett and drummer Kelly Littleton—have remained together for nearly 30 years, the band fueling Ed’s songs with their rock-solid, roadtested, telepathic musicianship. This will be Lil’ Ed’s second performance at the GBJ having previously appeared in 2008.
Guy Forsyth
gripping, powerful vocals as well as a master of numerous instruments. He’s been awarded an Austin Music Award for Best Male Vocalist in 2005, as well as numerous other AMA’s over the years in categories such as Blues and Best Miscellaneous Instrument Player (singing saw), among others. This will be Guy’s first time at the GBJ and we are certain that he will knock you out!
Southern Avenue Southern Avenue is a Memphis street that runs from the easternmost part of the city limits all the way to Soulsville, the original home of Stax Records. Southern Avenue is also the name of a fiery young Memphis quintet that embodies its home city’s soul, blues and gospel traditions. “If Memphis is a genre, this is it!” Southern Avenue features five young but seasoned musicians who came from diverse musical and personal backgrounds showcasing the powerful chemistry that the group has honed through stage and studio experience. Southern
Avenue encompasses Memphis-born, church-bred sisters Tierinii and Tikyra Jackson, respectively a soulful, charismatic singer and a subtle powerful drummer; guitarist Ori Naftaly, an Israeli-born blues disciple who first came to America as an acclaimed solo artist; and the band’s newest addition, keyboardist Jeremy Powell.

COLORADO’S FINEST BLUES TALENT My Blue Sky
We are so happy to welcome back NOCO’s own MY BLUE SKY. “Honoring the music of the Allman Brothers family of bands.” Award winning My Blue Sky is comprised of 7 experienced Colorado musicians that all share the passion and love of the music
of the Allman Brothers. They last played the 2015 GBJ with their collaborator and muse, Jimmy Hall. The response was overwhelming and we have invited them back.
Erica Brown with The Movers & Shakers
Erica Brown is a bona-fide Blueswoman. She has worked with some of the finest artists in the world, and has shared stages with such heavyweights as B.B. King, Al Green, Delbert McClinton, Tab
Benoit. She will be playing with the Movers and Shakers Band– a great soul review band from some fine musicians in Northern Colorado!
The Burroughs Since humble beginnings in the summer of 2013, The Burroughs have been playing and dancing their way into the hearts of dedicated fans throughout Northern Colorado and beyond. The band’s trademark
“sweaty soul music” features a polished four-piece horn section, a powerhouse rhythm section, and charismatic and multi-talented front-man Johnny Burroughs.

COLORADO’S FINEST BLUES TALENT
Kerry Pastine & The Crime Scene
Since the release of their album Let’s Do This Thing in 2015, Kerry Pastine and the Crime Scene have taken the national roots music scene by storm, spending the end of 2015 and most of 2016 touring North
America. From sweaty, sold-out small clubs to sharing the main stage of the Bohemian Nights New West Fest with the Steve Miller Band, the Crime Scene shows no signs of slowing down.
The Grace Kuch Band was formed in 2016 after being approached by David Osborne, a local drummer living in Loveland, CO. David had seen Grace perform at a fundraising event the previous year. At that moment, he decided he wanted to put together a band to support Grace in her music journey.
He assembled some incredible musicians including Fab Dolegowski, Kirk Petty and Cody Landstrom. Ever since, the Grace Kuch Band has been playing events and festivals across the region.
FRIDAY NIGHT HEADLINERS
Josh Hoyer & Soul Colossal Their combination of soul, funk and R&B is in a word, electric. Best displayed in their high-energy live show, the blend of Hoyer’s honest lyrics and his soulful (sometimes in-
your-face) vocals merge with his top-notch band to create an undeniable chemistry. Josh has recently been a contestant on “The Voice”.
Reverend Billy C. Wirtz is a comic genius, gifted pianist and American musicologist who defies easy classification. “I like to think of myself as the Victor Borge of the blues,” states the Reverend, but Billy goes way beyond Borge both in scope
of subject matter (from politics to social commentary) and, of course, in taste. In fact, no theme is too extreme, taboo, or undignified for the Reverend, so long as it garners a good laugh.
