WELCOME TO THE GREELEY STAMPEDE
IT’S TIME TO GET WESTERN! On behalf of the dedicated volunteers who work tirelessly to put on the annual event, I would like to welcome you to the Greeley Stampede. This year’s event once again features worldclass Pro Rodeo action, top name country music and rock talent in the Stampede Arena, dozens of bands playing on the Big Country Stage next to the Stampede Saloon
Beer Garden, Carnival Americana, American Bullfights, Xtreme Bull Tour Bull Riding, Kids Rodeo, Western Art Show, Demolition Derby, numerous park attractions and food for days! Wow, a lot going on…you may want to just plan on coming to see us on a daily basis. During your visit to the Greeley Stampede, please don’t hesitate to grab the nearest Wrangler, Committee person or staff member and ask a question, ask for directions or ask what they recommend you check out before the Stampede culminates on July 6th. I want to also take this opportunity to thank the Stampede Committee members, Wrangler Organization, City of Greeley, event sponsors and the many Gold Spur donors who make this event possible. The hundreds of thousands that support the Greeley Stampede either by
financial support or by attendance make it the very definition of a community event. One closing note: This year the Greeley Stampede Committee is honored to be inducted into the PRCA Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame. A crowning achievement of over 90 years of dedication from past Stampede Committee (Old Buckers), staff, Wrangler volunteers, sponsors and Gold Spur donors made this happen and we could not be more proud to receive this honor on their behalf. Welcome to the Greeley Stampede! Get Western!

CELEBRATE THE 92ND GREELEY STAMPEDE! After a long, cold, Colorado winter there is no better way to celebrate summer than with us here at the World’s Largest 4th of July Rodeo and Western Celebration! The committee, staff and volunteers here at the Greeley Stampede have been working non-stop since last July to assemble the 92nd Annual Greeley Stampede. This year we are bringing both new and old traditions to
Island Grove Park including the Marvelous Mutts, BMX Pro Trick Team, and the Krazy Maze as well as the concert performances, the Sheep Stampede and the PRCA rodeo. However, instead of telling you about what you can expect from the 2014 Greeley Stampede, I would like to invite you to join us this summer to celebrate our nation’s Independence and
be a part of the continued tradition of western heritage that is the mission of the Greeley Stampede!
Sincerely, Anthea Dreisbach, General Manager

2014 STAMPEDE GRAND MARSHALS
MIKE AND NOMIE KETTERLING Mike and Nomie Ketterling moved to Greeley on the Fourth of July, 1977. When they asked the desk clerk at a downtown hotel what to do in Greeley on the 4th, the clerk looked at them in disbelief and said “the Greeley Independence Stampede”. He instructed them to walk northwest until they saw the carnival and grandstand. So began their association with one of Greeley and Weld County’s premier events: the “World’s Largest 4th of July Rodeo and Western Celebration”. Nomie was born in San Jose, Costa Rica, and grew up in Park City, Montana. Mike was born and raised in Billings, Montana; they met at Montana State University and married in 1976. Nomie earned a BS in Sociology from MSU and MA in Psychology from UNC. She began her work in Greeley at the Weld County Sheriff’s Office then spent the next 23 years working for Weld County Partners. JAKE OWEN Jake Owen’s true talent and desire to be a musician came through after his spot on the Florida State University’s golf team abruptly ended after a serious shoulder injury. Realizing he could still hold a guitar with one arm in a sling he began singing and writing music. After his recovery, Owen became a regular club entertainer and quit college just before graduation to chase his music dreams. In 2005 Owen moved from Florida to Nashville, Tennessee to become a country music star. Owen signed with RCA Records less than one year later with numerous number one singles hitting the charts in the years following, “Alone with You,” “The One That Got Away” and “Anywhere With You”. Since releasing the charttopping album, Barefoot Blue Jean Night, Jake Owen has emerged as one of country music’s leading vocalists. His instant and rapid success in the country music world landed him coveted opening slots with some of country music’s biggest stars including Jason Aldean, Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw. Owen’s first headline tour CMT on Tour Jake Owen: The Summer Never Ends 2012 made CMT history for the most sold-out shows consecutively for the annual nationwide tour.

THREE DAYS GRACE (An excerpt from Neil Sanderson Details Three Days Grace’s Recording Process) For Three Days Grace, spring 2014 has been a balance of touring, flyin shows in the U.S. and Canada. I love switching gears between writing, recording and playing live. We hang out together and pass acoustic guitars around; and in the studio we lay down those new ideas all day and night for a couple weeks. Then for a moment we’re able to relax the ears and just take the brush off the canvas. Sleep on the idea for a minute. By the time we’ve all had a few days on our own listening to rough mixes, we’re all in a better headspace to get together again and hash it out. A lot of the time the “hashing-it-out” happens at airport departure gates. Lots of new ideas are born at sound check, as well. During the day, it’s an empty venue, and onstage we can sort out a lot of details on new material. We like to hear new songs through the PA in the venue. That’s important to us. Our favorite songs to play are always the ones where the crowd is craziest … it has to be electrifying when we play it live. If not, it doesn’t make the record… …we’re headed to Alaska in late August. It’s the only state we haven’t played. If we have some downtime while we’re there, I’ll most definitely be taking in the wilderness. Speaking of downtime (which is few and far between these days), I try to spend as much of it as possible in the country. I’m an outdoorsman at heart. In fact we all are in 3DG. I think the
more we travel to big cities, the more we appreciate just being able to chill at the end of a dock with acoustic guitars after a day of being on the water. I’m also that guy who doesn’t hesitate to put my buddies to work when they come over to my place on the weekend. There’s always a tree to cut, or something to build, or fix or wreck. Over the next few months, when our lives aren’t all about being in the studio or on tour, this is what we’re gonna be
into: Mosquitos, Camping, Boats, Beer, Wakeboarding, Golf, Fishing, Wasps, Chainsaws, Bonfires, Blackflies, & Music. Lots and lots of music. Read the complete article from: Neil Sanderson Details Three Days Grace’s Recording Process online.

BILLY CURRINGTON Country singer/songwriter Billy Currington was raised in Rincon, Georgia. Following high school, he relocated to Nashville in the hopes of getting a career in music off the ground, finally landing a job there at a concrete company, while still finding time to play at clubs on the side and work on song demos. When singer Mark Wills put a hold on one of his songs, Currington met and began writing with Wills’ producer, Carson Chamberlain, which eventually led to a recording contract with Mercury Records. His first single, “Walk a Little Straighter,” was released in 2003, and drew heavily on Currington’s experiences with an alcoholic father (the chorus for the song was actually written when Currington was only 12 years old). A debut album, “Billy Currington,” was released on Mercury Records in 2003. A second album, “Doin’ Somethin’ Right,” followed in 2005 on Mercury Nashville. Three years later, Currington delivered the eclectic, R&B-inflected “Little Bit of Everything,” also on Mercury Nashville. In 2010 Currington returned with his tenth studio effort, “Enjoy Yourself,” featuring the Troy Jones co-written single “Pretty Good at Drinkin’ Beer.” That song went to number one as did “Let Me Down Easy.” “Love Done Gone” and “Like My Dog” also reached the country Top 40. Currington returned to action in 2013, releasing the single “Hey Girl” in March and then delivering the full-length “We Are Tonight that September.”

BIG & RICH As Big & Rich, John Rich and Big Kenny Alphin have exerted a definite “gravitational pull” to the direction modern country music has taken. Their much anticipated new project, “Gravity” provides a stellar example of the genius of their creative brotherhood--the result of two unique musical personalities colliding to form an even greater positive sum total. From the vantage point of today’s career success, John notes: “When Kenny and I were first considering doing music together some 15 years ago, I can recall like it was yesterday him saying, “Man, we are like two individual planets— wouldn’t it be awesome to collide and smash the universe together,” he recalls. “We definitely felt that creative gravitational pull from the beginning and I think it continues to translate into the music.” They are America’s Technicolor cowboys, brothers-in-arms in service to the creed that great music has no boundaries. Individually, John and Big Kenny are first-rate musicians, songwriters, producers, entertainers—and now the creative force behind their own label imprint, Big & Rich Records. Together, they are one of the most truly original musical forces ever unleashed on a welcoming world. The new label is fueling even more passion to produce and present their music. “We now have the freedom to write songs, call our own shots and put every ounce of our guts, soul and DNA into music that we have complete creative control over—from creation to release schedule,” notes Kenny. “We can bring the best gunslingers to the shoot out and know everyone is 100% committed to our success. From making the music to getting it out there to our audience, it’s a great place to be. As John says— we’re like wild horses that don’t do good in a stall—we’d rather be running the wild range.” Big & Rich have, of course, made a career of being relatable and musically relevant since exploding into the public consciousness in 2003 as the rarest of breeds—true country music game changers. With 2004’s triple-platinum Horse of a Different Color, they were able to tap into the best strands of a wide spectrum of popular music, filter them through their pens and voices and produce a sound that is instantly recognizable, if not classifiable. “We continue to try to inspire,” says Kenny. “We just try to be ourselves in a world that sometimes insinuates you shouldn’t go outside the boundaries. No question in my mind that we have put forward as high quality music as we can do. And we believe we just keep getting better.”

BAREBACK BRONC RIDING
A bareback rider uses a rigging, made of leather, which resembles a suitcase handle on a leather strap. It is placed atop the horse’s withers (the ridge between the shoulder bones) and secured with a cinch. As the horse comes out of the chute, the rider must have both spurs touching the horse’s shoulders until the horse’s front feet hit the ground after the initial jump out of the chute. This is called “marking out.” The rider will be disqualified if he fails to do so. A successful ride is based on the cowboy’s spurring technique, holding on with one hand, not touching anything with his free hand, and staying on the bronc for at least eight seconds.
STEER WRESTLING
The steer wrestler (aka bulldogger) starts out on horseback behind a barrier and begins his chase after the steer has been given a head start. The bulldogger will receive a 10-second penalty if he breaks the barrier early. The steer wrestler is assisted by a hazer, another cowboy on horseback, who keeps the steer running in a straight line. When the bulldogger’s horse is even with the steer, he eases down the right side of the horse and reaches for the steer’s horns. After grasping the horns, he digs his heels into the dirt. As the steer slows, the cowboy turns the animal, lifts up on its right horn and pushes down with his left hand to tip the steer over. The steer wrestler must either bring the steer to a stop or change the direction of the animal’s body before the throw or is disqualified. The clock
stops when the steer is on his side with his head and all four legs pointing in the same direction. Team Roping Team roping is the only rodeo event that features two contestants. The team is made up of a header and a heeler. The header exits the box first. He ropes the horns, then wraps his rope around his saddle horn (dallies) and turns the steer to the left for the other cowboy to rope the heels. The heeler must throw a loop with precision timing to catch both of the steer’s hind legs. The time clock stops once both ropers are facing each other with both ropes tight after they’ve made the catch and brought the animal to a stop. Just as in steer wrestling, the animal gets a head start. The barrier is stretched across the header’s box, which if crossed early, the team is assessed a ten second penalty. A team that ropes one hind leg will have five seconds added on to their time.
SADDLE BRONC RIDING
A saddle bronc rider uses a thick rein attached to his horse’s halter. As in bareback, the cowboy uses one hand and tries to stay securely seated in his saddle for eight seconds. The cowboy strives to keep his toes turned outward while he spurs from the horse’s shoulders to the back of the saddle. He must maintain this during the eight seconds to score well.
TIE DOWN OR CALF ROPING
After the calf is given a head start, rider and his horse begin their chase. The cowboy ropes the calf, then dismounts and runs to the animal. After catching and flanking, or flipping the calf, the cowboy ties any three of the animal’s legs together using a “pigging string” that he carries in his teeth
LIVESTOCK WELFARE PROGRAM The Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) is deeply committed to the proper care and treatment of the livestock used in rodeo. The Livestock Welfare Program is extensive and covers many aspects including livestock care standards, education, research, outreach and government relations.
GOALS OF THE PRCA LIVESTOCK WELFARE PROGRAM: • • • • •
Insure the proper care and handling of livestock at PRCA sanctioned rodeos. Network with other rodeo and animal use groups to encourage similar programs. Educate PRCA membership regarding animal welfare/animal rights. Address legislative proposals that would affect rodeo. Provide factual information to the general public, media and elected officials regarding rodeo livestock.
AS AN ASSOCIATION, THE PRCA HAS: • • • • • • • • • •
Established rules and regulations governing livestock welfare. Ereated an animal welfare committee to assist in the association’s efforts to ensure proper care of livestock. Conducts regular livestock welfare surveys to identify successful practices and areas for improvement. Educates its membership regarding best practices for livestock handling. Monitors compliance with its animal welfare rules and regulations. Educates the public and elected officials about the care provided to rodeo livestock. Networks with other organizations about best livestock practices and policies. Employs a director of livestock welfare to coordinate all efforts relating to care and handling of livestock at PRCA-sanctioned events, and Employs a livestock welfare superintendent to proactively work with rodeo committees, stock contractors, contestants and veterinarians to ensure all livestock at PRCA rodeo are being handled properly. Eecognizes veterinarian’s contribution to the welfare of rodeo livestock with a new award program titled “PRCA Veterinarian of the Year” to be awarded at the National Finals Rodeo each year.
FOR MORE INFORMATION ON THE CARE AND HANDLING OF RODEO LIVESTOCK CALL (719)593-8840.
until needed. The knot used is called a “hooey.” If the calf is not standing when the cowboy reaches it, he must allow the animal to stand, and then flank it. When the cowboy completes his tie, he throws his hands in the air as a signal to the judge. He then remounts his horse and allows the rope to become slack. The run is disqualified if the calf kicks free within six seconds. As with any timed event, a ten second penalty is added if the calf roper breaks the barrier early. Barrel Racing In barrel racing, the rider enters the arena at full speed on a sprinting Quarter Horse. As the horse and rider start the pattern, the clock begins. The racer rides a cloverleaf pattern around three barrels positioned in the arena, and sprints back out of the arena to stop the clock. The rider can touch or even move the barrels, but receives a five second penalty for each barrel that is overturned.
BULL RIDING
Bull riders are judged mostly on their ability to stay aboard the twisting, bucking mass of muscle and horns. The rider tries to remain forward, or “over his hand,” at all times. Leaning back could cause him to be whipped forward when the bull bucks. Judges watch for good body position and other factors, including use of the free arm and spurring. Although not required, spurring will add points to a rider’s score. As in all the riding events, half of the score in bull riding is determined by the cowboy’s performance, and the other half is based on the animal’s efforts. A bull rider will be disqualified for touching the animal, himself or his equipment with his free hand.

Before You Dig, Call 811. It’s the law. More importantly, it’s the single best way to make sure underground utilities are identified for the safety of you and your neighboring community to safeguard everyone who lives and works along our pipelines. Emergencies are preventable. It costs nothing to do the right thing. You can prevent accidents by reporting anyone excavating on or near a pipeline or pipeline marker sign, anyone illegally entering a pipeline facility, or any possible emergency that might occur. Here are some helpful tips on identifying buried pipelines and helping us prevent pipeline emergencies: • Check your property plat or title report for pipeline easements. As a property owner, you may not be aware there are pipelines running through your land. • Before you dig, call 811. This service is absolutely free and is available 24 hours a day. • Call 2 working days before you dig, drill, blast, or doze.
• A fire or explosion near a pipeline
• Watch for pipeline marker signs at roads, railroad crossings, fence lines and other pipeline facilities. (Pipeline marker signs are used to identify the owner of the pipeline, contact phone numbers as well as the approximate location of the pipelines.)
• Gas or petroleum products escaping from a pipeline
• If you have concerns, questions or you are reporting a possible pipeline emergency near our pipelines or pipeline marker signs, please call us toll free 24 hours a day at (888) 204-1781 or (800) 435-1679.

What you should do if you suspect a leak?
726 Main St. Pierce, CO 80650
970-834-1388
The first concern should be for your personal safety and the safety of those around you. Follow these steps: 1. Leave the area of the leak immediately. Warn others, if necessary. 2. Do not make contact with the escaping gas or liquids.
PROTECTIVE CLOTHING
3. Avoid creating sparks or ignition sources that could cause the vapors or liquids to ignite. Do not light a match, start an engine, use a telephone or even switch on/off an electric light. 4. Turn off any running machinery (engines). 5. If you come upon a leak or vapor cloud while in an automobile, do not drive into the area. 6. Call 911 and the pipeline owner immediately, from a safe location. Call the pipeline owner collect. Provide them with your name and phone number and a description of leak and its location. 7. Remember, any damage, even a scrape or a dent to a pipeline needs to be reported to the Pipeline Company. If not promptly repaired, it could result in a future serious accident.
Commitment to safety is our core value.
