Welcome to the Greeley Stampede! Welcome to the 95th Annual Greeley Stampede! On behalf of the volunteers and staff, we thank you for being a part of the event’s major milestone. We are expecting more than 200,000 guests from around the world to experience Colorado’s premier western summer celebration.
We have hundreds of activities happening around the park during the 12-day festival, below are a few highlights we recommend: • Get your tickets early to see Colorado’s largest demolition derby on Monday, July 4. The annual sellout event will keep you on the edge of your seats, especially for the full size RV heat that has become a crowd favorite. • The Stampede offers the best rodeo action around as it was named the PRCA Mountain States Circuit Large Rodeo of the Year and won the Best Ground of the Year Award. There will be six rodeo performances including the Stampede Finals on Sunday, July 3. • Take time to shop at one of the 75 plus commercial vendor booths located on Main Street, under the Stampede Arena grandstands, and inside the Stampede Events Center. The Events Center has lots to offer, it is air-cooled, houses the Western Art Show, has a beverage bar and lounge area, the Spur Club hospitality area, plenty of restrooms, and many vendor booths, including a Roper & Stetson Apparel store which will provide free daily specials. • Bring the whole family and enjoy the FREE Kids Korral activities that include the Page's White Tiger Show, Aussie Kingdom, a petting zoo, balloon maker, face painter and a new play sandbox. These free attractions are located right next to the Sheep Stampede in the Pavilion, where little cowboys and cowgirls can try an 8-second sheep ride. • Feed your hunger cravings at one of the many food court vendors while listening to great music from Craig Morgan, Quiet Riot and other regional talent on the Big 97.9 Free Stage presented by Banner Health. The Stampede Saloon will serve up cold Bud Light, Jack Daniel’s & Pepsi beverages while live music from our house band Sonder and K99’s New from Nashville acts play throughout the evening. • The carnival has more than 100 rides providing thrills and chills for a hot summer night. Between rides, enjoy some of the food and games. Don’t miss the four brand new featured rides including, Zero Gravity, Spin Out, Groovy Bus and Himalaya. Head over to one of the carnival ticket booths to purchase individual ride tickets or stop by a Stampede admission booth to buy a one-day unlimited ride wristband for $30 or a 12-day season wristband for only $100. • Make sure to stake out your spot early along the Independence Day Parade route. Leading this spectacular parade will be over 50 amazing longhorns and our two favorite crazy and wacky mascots, Bucky & Bertha. Make sure to keep an eye in the sky for a special July 4th tribute. • Fiesta de Música, an evening of popular and traditional Latin music, will feature Luis Coronel, Polo Urías and special guests on Sunday, June 26. • We are excited to complete the Buckle Club project. This new building, located in the middle of the park by the food court, features new ADA compliant restrooms including two family restrooms, two multi-use concession stands and a new hospitality area. We thank the City of Greeley, Turn Key Builders and all the companies who supported the project. This year’s Greeley Stampede has too much going on to list here, so please read the rest of the event program schedule, visit greeleystampede.org, and follow us on social media to learn more about all of the great events and attractions. We look forward to making this event a lasting memory for all who attend! Sincerely,
Patty Gates General Chairman

2016 Stampede Grand Marshals Gene and Julie Haffner
Joe Moylan • jmoylan@greeleytribune.com In late April, Greeley Stampede staffers and executive committee members announced this year’s grand marshals, bestowing the honor on a Windsor couple widely recognized for both professional and philanthropic contributions to northern Colorado. Bucky the Longhorn, the Stampede’s mascot, busted through a set of doors at North Colorado Medical Center to interrupt a weekly board meeting. He was followed by several members of the Greeley Stampede executive committee, including General Chairman Patty Gates, who announced Gene and Julie Haffner as the grand marshals for the 95th annual Greeley Stampede. “The Greeley Stampede is a signature event in Greeley and northern Colorado that draws people from all over the world,” Gene said after the announcement. “It’s a great honor, and we’re humbled to be apart of a long list of distinguished community members who have made Greeley and northern Colorado great.” A resident of Greeley and northern Colorado for 40 years, Gene is the director of public relations at NCMC, where he has been employed for 23 years. He has served the community in a number of capacities. He was the United Way Campaign Chairman, on the board of directors for the Greeley Chorale, the Greeley Chamber of Commerce Board and Hospice of Northern Colorado and not only president of the Kiwanis Club of Greeley but Lt. Gov. of Kiwanis Rocky Mountain District Division II, with responsibility for clubs in Berthoud, Loveland, Fort Collins, Windsor, Greeley, Sterling and Fort Morgan.
Julie has 40 years of leadership positions with fundraising and non-profit foundations, including Poudre Valley Hospital Foundation, the Community Foundation serving Greeley and Weld County, and the McKee Medical Center Foundation, the release stated. In February, she retired after 12 years as executive director of the McKee Foundation to spend more time with family and engage in non-profit organization consulting and coaching. Julie also is a dedicated Rotary International member, serving with clubs in Fort Collins, Greeley and Loveland. Gene and Julie said they’ve always shared their love for western culture. They’ve spent a lot of time hanging out at the Stampede with their three daughters, Lindsay, now an attorney in Castle Rock; Carrie, an OB/delivery nurse in Omaha, Neb.; and registered nurse Kelley, who was Miss Colorado in 2015 and Miss America second runner-up. Gene and Julie also take 3-year-old granddaughter, Harper, to the Stampede and they’re hoping to introduce their grandson Alan John born on May 1st to the tradition. Although the Stampede has been a family affair for years, Gene credits the event for closing the deal with his wife of 16 1/2 years. A native of Fort Collins, Julie had never attended the Stampede until Gene took her in 1998. “It was one of our first dates and we danced the Cowboy Cha Cha — in public,” Julie said. “It was the moment I realized we were a couple because we were really putting ourselves out there.”

Miss Rodeo America 2016
Katherine Merck
Visiting the Greeley Stampede June 27-30 www.missrodeoamerica.com Katherine Merck of Spokane, Washington, was selected as Miss Rodeo America 2016 after a week-long competition during the 2015 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas. “It is a privilege to represent the cowboys and cowgirls who carry on the great western lifestyle, values, and traditions that rodeo embodies. As Miss Rodeo America, I channel my motto, ‘live so enthusiastically you cannot fail,’ into successfully promoting professional rodeo, creating new fans everywhere I go, and ensuring rodeo’s legacy.” Before winning the title of Miss Rodeo America, Katherine was in her final year of Law School at Gonzaga University School of Law. In the future she plans to run for a judicial position on the Washington State Supreme Court to promote ethical justice for land use, water rights, and agricultural estate planning. Katherine believes it is her duty to actively serve in order to give back to the community that has given so much to her. She is a board member for Rotaract, an affiliate of Rotary. In addition, she is on the Board of Directors for PRODIGY Northwest, where she works with gifted students and their teachers. Her passion for fly-fishing led her to co-found Gonzaga Law School’s Rod and Gun Club with the goal of educating her peers on the technicalities of the sport while emphasizing the importance of stewardship of local waters. “As a dedicated rodeo ambassador, I am honored to share my enthusiasm and knowledge of the sport of professional rodeo and its athletes, both human and animal, with as many people as possible, and serve as a representative and role model by exemplifying rodeo’s virtues of fair play, sportsmanship and hard work.”
2016 Miss Rodeo Colorado
MADELAINE MILLS For more than 50 years, Miss Rodeo Colorado has symbolized the youth of Colorado who wish to further promote the sport of rodeo and our western heritage. The pageant is a continuing legacy of life in the West, the spirit of the settlers, the traditions of ranching, and the excitement of rodeo. Since 1990, the Greeley Stampede has been the host rodeo of the Miss Rodeo Colorado Pageant. Castle Rock, Colorado’s Madelaine Mills is the proud daughter of Randy and Debbie Mills. The 23 year-old is a graduate of West Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communication, emphasizing in Broadcast Journalism and Advertising & Public Relations. She plans to obtain a Master’s Degree in Marketing and pursue a career in the western industry or a rodeo organization, while also working towards entrepreneurial dreams. With a strong belief in sharing her love for the sport of rodeo and the unique western lifestyle, Mills credits participating in 4H and FFA as the start, holding officer positions and building an appreciation for agriculture. Passionate about youth rodeo,
38
she served on the National Little Britches Rodeo Association (NLBRA) Youth Board in 2011 and 2012. Mills was honored to serve as the 2012 National Little Britches Rodeo Association Queen and continues to enjoy competing in breakaway, team roping, and barrel racing. The iconic turquoise tiara worn by Miss Rodeo Colorado continues to represent the rich western traditions of our Rocky Mountain State and America. With a servant’s heart, Mills is blessed to carry on the legacy of cowgirl attitude, pioneer spirit, and an American brand of courage that every Miss Rodeo Colorado has exemplified. Aiming to encourage and grow others, she is excited to promote the Greeley Stampede and all that rodeo embodies with today’s youngest buckaroos to yesterday’s Greatest Generation. “Hold yourself to a standard of grace, not perfection.” - Madelaine Mills

Announcers
Hadley Barrett
Hadley Barrett: This ranch-raised Nebraskan started his career as a contestant but found his place in rodeo history behind the microphone. A PRCA member since 1965, Hadley Barrett has announced all of the big rodeos and a great number of the smaller ones across the country. He has been the voice of the Sidney (Iowa) Championship Rodeo since 1983; worked the Buffalo Bill Rodeo for more than 30 years; the Greeley (Colo.) Stampede for more than 20 years; and worked for more than a decade at Cheyenne (Wyo.) Frontier Days. Barrett was named PRCA Announcer of the Year in 1983, 1985, 1989 and 2002. He has worked four National Finals Rodeos (1968, 1976, 1979 and 1983) and the 1967 National Finals Steer Roping, as well as called the Canadian Finals action seven times. He has worked as an NFR television announcer since 1980. Barrett’s legacy is his willingness to share his talent and experience with others. He is known for taking rookie announcers under his wing and sharing hard-earned information. Will Rasmussen: A smooth, easy-listening voice, a vast knowledge of rodeo and a style that is both entertaining and informative are the mix of elements that make Will Rasmussen one of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association’s most popular rodeo announcers. With more than two decades of experience in the industry, he is a veteran rodeo announcer who, since advancing to the PRCA ranks in 1994, has shared his style of announcing with rodeo fans in Montana and across the United States.

Stock Contractor
Bennie Beutler
Rhett Beutler
Beutler and Son Rodeo Co: Bennie Beutler was inducted into the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame in Colorado Springs, Colo. in July of 2010. The famed stock contractor from Elk City, Okla., is the third generation of Beutlers to be in the stock contracting business. Beutler and his son Rhett make up the Beutler and Son Rodeo Co., which provides bucking horses and bulls for rodeos across the nation. The company has had animals selected to buck at pro rodeo’s world championship, the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, for nearly every year of its six decades of existence.

Sound
Jill Franzen Jill’s Sound: Jill Franzen is a professional sound and music technician who has been doing rodeo sound and music for thirteen years. In those years, she’s provided sound for various rodeos around the country. Her personality coupled with her perfectionism makes her a big hit at any rodeo. Jill is very easy to work with and is successful at making any rodeo a sensation!
rodeo personnel
Barrelman – Rodeo Clown Justin Rumsford: The only difference between Justin Rumford and a stand-up comedian, is that he’s doing his job from the middle of a rodeo arena instead of a stage with a spotlight. Rumford, who lives in Ponca City, Okla., is a rodeo clown at events from coast to coast. His job during the rodeo is twofold. He provides the laughs and banters with the announcer. But during the bull riding his more dangerous job begins. Rumford is a barrelman: the cowboy who works the barrel, providing an oasis of safety for bullfighters and bull riders, in case an angry bull decides to chase them. And lucky for rodeo fans, Rumford is still clowning, and winning honors at it. In 2012, 2013, 2014 & 2015 he’s been honored as the PRCA’s Clown of the Year.
Bullfighter – Cowboy Protection Wacey Munsell: It seems almost natural that Wacey Munsell became a bullfighter, as he is a third generation bullfighter following in the footsteps of his grandfather, father, and uncle. Munsell honed his bullfighting skills almost from the time he started walking, to become a world champion multiple times over. In 2004, he was the youngest ever to be allowed on the TwoBulls Protection Tour and the World Championship Rodeo Bullfighting tour, finishing as the world champion, earning the gold buckle just eight days after his 18th birthday. Don’t take your eyes off of him after a bull rider leaves the arena, because this is when his fun begins, thrilling crowds and stopping hearts. Brandon Loden: Brandon Loden is the 3 time Championship Bull Riding Bullfighter of the year. He has been fighting bulls for 8 years professionally in the PRCA and CBR Circuit. Brandon grew up in East Texas and had a natural love for the sport of rodeo as a young boy. He competed in bull riding through junior and high school rodeo until a life threatening bull riding accident. He still pursued his love for Bull riding by working for a stock contractor and hauling bulls to various rodeos and bull ridings across the country. Brandon fell into fighting bulls when one night a bull fighter didn’t show up to fight bulls at a practice. The bulls needed bucked and the bull riders needed a bull fighter. Brandon stepped in and the rest is history. Brandon had an instant addiction and talent for fighting bulls. Xtreme Bulls Bullfighter/Cowboy Protection Dustin Konig: The Bullfighter has continued to evolve into two distinct disciplines — the cowboy protector and the freestyle bullfighter. Even within the rodeo community, where people know the difference, both the cowboy protector and the freestyle bullfighter are often referred to as “bullfighters.” Dustin Konig of Eaton, Colo., is the 2012 American Bull Fighting world champion and also the 2013 reserve champion, and is uniquely qualified to explain the difference.

Being a Stampede Wrangler takes a tremendous amount of energy and dedication. The Greeley Stampede is fortunate enough to have this group of volunteers who actually pay to be a part of this community minded group. Many volunteers have become experts in their respective areas and are sought after to help with the events and functions throughout the year.

Wrangler of the year Myron Snyder, a 24 year Greeley Stampede volunteer, recently was named the Top Hand of the Year award winner for 2015 by his peers. The Top Hand award is given out annually through the Stampede’s volunteer support group the Wranglers, and is given to the group’s most outstanding member during the previous year. Snyder will also be recognized during the 95th annual Greeley Stampede this summer. “It’s his positive attitude and work ethic that made Myron the obvious choice for this year’s Top Hand award,” said Wrangler President Nichole Lichtenberg. “You can find Myron on the park 24-hours a day, smiling.” Currently 300 members strong, the Wranglers include the Stampede’s longest standing volunteers. The membership is in charge of putting on one of the region’s largest and most recognizable western celebrations. This group handles everything from the traffic that comes with such a large event to the cold beverages Stampede patrons enjoy once on the grounds, and it’s the TOP HAND ice that keeps these drinks cool that sets Snyder apart. Snyder serves on the vendor subcommittee of the larger beverage committee. A large portion AWARD of his work during the Stampede is to make sure the vendors throughout the park have ice, and he’s Myron Snyder great at it, according to Lichtenberg: “We call him the ‘Ice Cube,’ for a reason” said Lichtenberg. “I’ve been a volunteer on the Wranglers for a long time,” said Snyder. “I love the work I do, I love the people I work with and meet here, so I was overwhelmed with joy to be recognized as the 2015 Top Hand.” In addition to the award, Snyder will assume a leadership position and serve as trail boss – the volunteer in charge of each of the 11 Wrangler groups – for the vendor subcommittee in 2016. “On behalf of the entire general committee, I’d like to congratulate Myron on a very well deserved accolade,” said general chairman Patty Gates. “Myron is a great representation of our volunteers and we thank them for their hard work every year. Without them, there is no Stampede.”
