WELCOME TO THE GREELEY STAMPEDE! My memories of the Greeley Stampede started when I came to Greeley in 1993. Every year after that visit, it was mandatory that my young family attended the event. I specifically remember standing next to the merry-goround enjoying a cold beverage and watching my 3-year old daughter ride and listening to the music coming from the arena. I thought to myself how amazing it would be to be able to take part in such a great event... All these years later, I’m proud to say that the Greeley Stampede has played a huge role in my family’s life and it has turned out to be the honor of a lifetime to serve as General Chairman for this 96th year. My observation shows that this event touches the lives of not only Greeley, but so many throughout the region. I’m always impressed by the hearts of our volunteers and the work they do to put on such an event. They love what they do and take time from work and family to volunteer. It’s hard to say how many have given their time to this event, but my guess is it’s in the 1000’s. When it comes to our guests, we try hard every year to bring top notch rodeo, music entertainment, delicious food and exciting attractions throughout the park so as to keep the Stampede fresh and enjoyable each and every year. From Toby Keith to rib on a stick, from buckin’ bulls to crashing RVs in the demo derby, we at the event hope to see you and your family having a great time with us as I did all those years ago. On behalf of the Greeley Stampede Family, welcome to the 96th Annual Greeley Stampede!

His family, including his three kids, take precedence; School activities, black-belt karate, music and concerts, and birds (yes, birds) from his everyday life infuse and inspire his profession. Many of his close friends and customers would go so far as to feel that they are family, too. Trent challenges the people in his life to constantly aspire for greatness and never accept the standard.

STAMPEDE GRAND MARSHALS JERRY AND SANDY HELGESON
Each year since 1928, the Greeley Stampede has recognized outstanding citizens for their many community and regional contributions to Northern Colorado. The Stampede is happy to announce Jerry and Sandy Helgeson as the Grand Marshals for the 96th Annual Greeley Stampede. “Having known Jerry and Sandy for quite some time, it’s an honor to have them officially as part of our Greeley Stampede family,” said John DeWitt, General Chairman of the Greeley Stampede Committee. “What a surprise when we were asked to be Grand Marshals by the Greeley Stampede Committee. We feel so honored to be a part of this wonderful organization and humbled to be a part of the amazing group of Grand Marshals who have come before us,” Jerry and Sandy Helgeson said when asked to be the Grand Marshals for the 2017 Greeley Stampede. Jerry and Sandy have been residents of Greeley and Windsor for 41 years. Their daughters graduated from Greeley West and Sandy has her degree from UNC. Jerry graduated from Minot State University with a degree in business. Jerry owned American Eagle Distributorship in Northern Colorado for 40 years before retiring in 2015. While in business, his company was one of the top 50 family-owned companies in Colorado, ranked #33. In addition to receiving several top
30
awards with Anheuser-Busch over the years, Jerry has served on bank boards in Weld County as well as the Greeley Chamber of Commerce and volunteering for fundraising on several organizations. He helped develop a program at CSU in Brewing Operations, was awarded the Bravo Entrepreneur Award in 2016 by BizWest, awarded the Loveland Chamber Large Business of the Year award in 2012, is a certified pilot and was the Easter Bunny at the White House Easter Egg Roll during the Obama administration. After raising their two daughters, Susan and Julie, Sandy went back to school at UNC and got her master’s degree in Psychology. She has done volunteer work for several organizations in addition to serving on the Board of Directors for NCMC Foundation, A Kid’s Place, and currently the Boys and Girls Club of Weld County. Jerry and Sandy remember when their daughters were young, they all did volunteer work with the Jaycees at the Greeley Stampede. “Our daughters have fond memories of the carnival rides, rodeos and shows,” Jerry said. “Our daughters are now mothers and we are proud grandparents to five beautiful grandchildren. We hope to introduce them to cowboy boots and rodeos this year.” Jerry and Sandy are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this year and feel this honor of being Grand Marshals is the icing on the cake.

HADLEY BARRETT
The “Voice” of Rodeo You hear it and you think rodeo. The famous voice of rodeo announcer Hadley Barrett is now silent and the Greeley Stampede will miss him immensely. Barrett is a legend in the rodeo world. He started as a contestant and when an announcer didn’t show for a rodeo he volunteered to take his place and the rest is history. Since then he has won announcer of the year multiple times, announced the National Finals Rodeo and did the TV broadcast of the NFR. He has announced the big rodeos like: San Antonio, Cheyenne, Denver and the Greeley Stampede. He also has announced a lot of the smaller ones. He was one of the first to announce rodeos on horseback and over the years has mentored many of today’s rodeo announcers. More than any of that, what makes Hadley a legend is the man. He was a friend to everyone whether it be a 5 time world champion or an 18 year old kid just starting out on the rodeo trail. The chairman of a large rodeo or the volunteer opening gates in the arena. It didn’t matter, Hadley always had time for everyone. What made him a great announcer is that he cared about the sport, he cared about the athletes and everyone involved. Mr. Barrett announced the Greeley Stampede since 1980 and it just won’t be the same this year without the voice. He taught me so much about how to put on a great rodeo performance and was patient with me when I wanted to try new and different things. My favorite memory will be the night he stayed around the park in his camper to pick the guitar and sing some songs with some young cowboys who had dreamed of that moment. He could have gone home yet he stayed well into the early morning to indulge them, and you could tell he loved every minute of it. Hadley we miss you and your spirit will always be with us. Good Ride Cowboy...

RODEO PERSONNEL Announcer
WILL RASMUSSEN
Will Rasmussen: A smooth, easy-listening voice, a vast knowledge of rodeo and a style that is both entertaining and informative are the mix of elements that make Will Rasmussen one of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association’s most popular rodeo announcers. With more than two decades of experience in the industry, he is a veteran rodeo announcer who, since advancing to the PRCA ranks in 1994, has shared his style of announcing with rodeo fans in Montana and across the United States.

JILL FRANZEN
RHETT BEUTLER
Beutler and Son Rodeo Co: Bennie Beutler was inducted into the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame in Colorado Springs, Colo., in July of 2010. The famed stock contractor from Elk City, Okla., is the third generation of Beutlers to be in the stock contracting business. Beutler and his son Rhett make up the Beutler and Son Rodeo Co., which provides bucking horses and bulls for rodeos across the nation. The company has had animals selected to buck at pro rodeo’s world championship, the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, for nearly every year of its six decades of existence.
Jill’s Sound: Jill Franzen is a professional sound and music technician who has been doing rodeo sound and music for thirteen years. In those years, she’s provided sound for various rodeos around the country. Her personality coupled with her perfectionism makes her a big hit at any rodeo. RODEO PERSONNEL Barrelman – Rodeo Clown John Harrison: If you’re looking for high quality and professional entertainment, you’ve come to the right place. John Harrison is a high energy Rodeo Clown with strong acts. He can work the crowd, work the barrel, and provide entertaining acts through the rodeo. Harrison was selected by his peers to be the 2013 & 2015 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo Barrelman, in 2014, he was awarded the Coors Man in the Can & Comedy Act of the Year by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA). He also picked up the 2015 and 2016 PRCA Comedy Act of the Year. Harrison will give you the fun, lively atmosphere you should expect & enjoy at a rodeo. He offers the best in rodeo entertainment.
Bullfighter – Cowboy Protection Wacey Munsell: It seems almost natural that Wacey Munsell became a bullfighter, as he is a third generation bullfighter following in the footsteps of his grandfather, father, and uncle. Munsell honed his bullfighting skills almost from the time he started walking, to become a world champion multiple times over. In 2004, he was the youngest ever to be allowed on the TwoBulls Protection Tour and the World Championship Rodeo Bullfighting tour, finishing as the world champion, earning the gold buckle just eight days after his 18th birthday. Don’t take your eyes off of him after a bull rider leaves the arena, because this is when his fun begins, thrilling crowds and stopping hearts. Brandon Loden: Brandon Loden is the 3 time Championship Bull Riding Bullfighter of the year. He has been fighting bulls for 8 years professionally in the PRCA and CBR Circuit. Brandon grew up in East Texas and had a natural love for the sport of rodeo as a young boy. He competed in bull riding through junior and high school rodeo until a life threatening bull riding accident. He still pursued his love for Bull riding by working for a stock contractor and hauling bulls to various rodeos and bull ridings across the country. Brandon fell into fighting bulls when one night a bull fighter didn’t show up to fight bulls at a practice. The bulls needed bucked and the bull riders needed a bull fighter. Brandon stepped in and the rest is history. Brandon had an instant addiction and talent for fighting bulls. XTREME BULLS BULLFIGHTER/COWBOY PROTECTION Dustin Konig: The Bullfighter has continued to evolve into two distinct disciplines — the cowboy protector and the freestyle bullfighter. Even within the rodeo community, where people know the difference, both the cowboy protector and the freestyle bullfighter are often referred to as “bullfighters.” Dustin Konig of Eaton, Colo., is the 2012 American Bull Fighting world champion and also the 2013 reserve champion, and is uniquely qualified to explain the difference.

SHARON CARBAUGH TOP HAND AWARD WINNER
Each year the Greeley Stampede’s volunteer group the Wranglers honor a volunteer that has demonstrated exceptional dedication and outstanding service to be named Top Hand of the Year. This year, the Top Hand of the Year was awarded to Sharon Carbaugh. With more than 250 members, the Wranglers are in charge of putting on one of the region’s largest and most recognizable western celebration. The group oversees everything that is involved with the Stampede including security, concessions, and the parade to name a few. Sharon has undeniably been an asset to the Wranglers over the years with more than one hundred volunteer hours at the Stampede last year alone. A volunteer with the Wranglers for 16 years, Sharon has done it all including redesigning the Greeley Stampede’s mascots, Bucky and Bertha, outfits. “It’s always a pleasure to see our hard working volunteers get the well-deserved recognition from their peers,” said John DeWitt, Wranglers General Chairman, “Sharon has been a longtime volunteer for the Stampede and we appreciate everything that she does!”

THE GREELEY STAMPEDE FOUNDATION The Greeley Stampede Foundation is a non-profit organization formed to support continuing education for Weld County students. Since beginning the program, the Stampede Foundation has awarded more than $380,000 in scholarships. The Foundation works with the Greeley Stampede to produce events and programs that benefit the Stampede Foundation including the Stampede Western Art Show, Big Buckle Ball, and Golf Tournament.
2017 SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS The 2017 recipients were difficult to choose from with a record breaking number of applications. With over 100 applicants this year, the Greeley Stampede Foundation was humbled to see the amount of hard work and dedication that these students represent. Applications were submitted from across Weld County, creating a very competitive selection process. Recipients were selected based on their outstanding academic results, school involvement, leadership in the community, and plans to further their education. The 2017 selected scholarship recipients represent 13 Weld County High Schools. The Foundation Board is proud to help these community minded students build a bright future for themselves and, as a result, our community. Over $50,000 will be awarded to the students for the 2017-2018 academic year. The recipients include:
