Greetings to all Friends, On behalf of my family and myself, I want to welcome you all to the 18th annual Yearous Cattle Co Angus Bull and commercial replacement female sale on Saturday February 25th. Auction start time is 1:00 pm, but I welcome and encourage you to come early to view the offering and join us for lunch which will be served starting at noon. In time with business, whether it is your programs or ours, it is a realization of progress and charted success. It has been gratifying and rewarding to grow and participate with you our customers, to watch, share, and learn over the last seventeen years when we began having this annual event. We are proud of the offering we bring to you this year, as we feel it is one of the deepest and most balanced set of cattle and genetics offered by us to date. From the yearlings to the coming two’s, both Angus and SimAngus, to the commercial females, both bred and the opens, it reflects not only our goals, but what you as our customers have indicated and come to expect from our program. We appreciate the opportunity and thank each one of you to be a source of reliable, and consistent genetics and cattle. I want to briefly take this time to announce the first annual YCC MATERNAL BUILDING BLOCKS registered female sale, scheduled for Saturday November 25th, 2017. This will be a front end offering of Angus and SimAngus females, both breds and heifer calves. Watch our website for details and information as the year goes on. GENERAL INFORMATION Please Read

HEALTH – Bulls have been vaccinated and boostered with BoviShield Gold 5 +VL5, Vision 7 with somnus, injectable and pour on Ivermectin, and poured again with Cleanup. All bulls will have passed a Breeding Soundness Exam (BSE) and certificate provided. All bulls eighteen months and older will be Trich tested negative.

LIABILITY– All persons attending this sale/event do so at their own risk, legal or otherwise, for their safety or the behavior of the animals. The owners, Auction Service, Sales Staff and hosts assume no liability for loss of property, personal injury, or any accidents that may occur. RETAINED INTEREST– You will notice in the catalog that Yearous Cattle Co. is retaining an interest in certain bulls. Buyer owns all possession and salvage rights of the bull purchased. YCC retains an interest and revenue sharing through A.I and reserves the right for collection at sellers(YCC) expense and buyers convenience. If buyer also chooses to use through A.I. or participate with semen sale the costs will be split accordingly.

SUPPLEMENTAL SHEETS – Sheets will be available on sale day with updated information and changes. Check website as well for updates. WINTERING ARRANGEMENTS – Any yearling bull selling for $2500 or more, or 2 year old for $3500 or more, buyer can choose to leave the bull(s) at YCC for feeding at no cost from sale date to April; 1,2017, or take the bull home with you on sale day and deduct $50.00 per bull. Any bull remaining after April 1,2017 will be charged feed cost on a daily basis. Please make arrangements for extended feeding period. We encourage all bulls to be picked up no later than May1, 2017. All bulls become responsibility of buyer when sold. YCC assumes no liability for injury or death to bulls left for feeding. Bulls will be handled and cared for as if they were our own. Any abnormal health or vet cost will be assumed by buyer. Females are not included in wintering agreement.

Driving the science of better breeding

There’s little room for error in the cattle business. Producers need the most advanced information to make smart selection decisions, and Angus Genetics Inc. (AGI) provides it through genomic-enhanced expected progeny differences (GE-EPDs). GE-EPDs have become the industry standard for herd improvement, building on decades of science-backed genetic evaluation tools originated and maintained through the American Angus Association®, home to the largest and evergrowing single-breed beef cattle database. EPDs that traditionally contained all pedigree, performance and progeny information now also include results from available genomic, or DNA, tests. Breeders who use genomic technology give buyers access to AGI-generated GE-EPDs that provide: Increased predictability and decreased risk for young and unproven animals due to enhanced accuracy of EPDs Better characterization of genetics for difficult-to-measure performance traits (such as carcass traits, maternal traits and feed efficiency) The ability to make more rapid progress for traits that are important to you, due to: · more accurate selection · easier identification of genetic outliers · the ability to propagate young animals with confidence earlier in their lives In fact, GE-EPDs on unproven animals have the same amount of accuracy as if they had recorded 7-24 calves, depending on the trait. FIRST BREEDING SEASON INJURY GUARANTEE Applies to Yearlings Only Since insurance companies have eliminated “loss of use” coverage and with the reality that young bulls are sometimes injured during their first breeding season, we at YEAROUS CATTLE CO. have worked to come up the a fair and reasonable way to share the risk with our bull customers.

• Any injured bull must be diagnosed by a veterinarian and results provided to YEAROUS CATTLE CO. as soon as an injury occurs and prior to the bull being sold for salvage.

In the past, with customers that wanted the “loss of use” insurance, we shared one-half the premium cost for coverage. We have decided to continue sharing one-half the risk during this transitional period with the breed guarantee below.

• All claims must be made prior to September 1, 2017

• A copy of the sales receipt must be provided to YEAROUS CATTLE CO., if the bull is sold for salvage.

Example 1: A $4000 bull is injured and will not heal. A credit of $2000 minus one half-salvage value will be given to the buyer.

• All bulls selling for $2000 or more will be covered 50% by YEAROUS CATTLE CO. if they are injured during the first breeding season and are not able to return to service.

Example 2: A $2000 bull is injured and will not heal. A credit of $1000 minus one half-salvage value will be given to the buyer.

• Breeding season is defined as the 90-day period following the first turnout of the bulls.

Example 3: A $1750 bull is injured and will not heal. No credit is given. Buyer retains all salvage value.

• Fifty percent of the purchase price of the injured bull minus 50% of the salvage value will be given as a credit in a future sale or toward a replacement bull, if one is available.

This guarantee does not include mortality, a life threatening injury; freeze damage due to winter elements, or mismanagement. We will not replace a dead animal if it is killed or has to be humanely destroyed for any reason.

• We must be notified should injury occur and before the bull is sold.

EXPLANATION OF TERMS Marbling EPD (Marb), expressed as a fraction of the difference in USDA marbling score of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires.

Calving Ease Direct (CED), is expressed as a difference in percentage of unassisted births, with a higher value indicating greater calving ease in first-calf heifers. It predicts the average difference in ease with which a sire’s calves will be born when he is bred to first-calf heifers.

Ribeye Area EPD (RE), expressed in square inches, is a predictor of the difference in ribeye area of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires.

Birth Weight EPD (BW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit birth weight to his progeny compared to that of other sires.

Fat Thickness EPD (Fat), expressed in inches, is a predictor of the differences in external fat thickness at the 12th rib (as measured between the 12th and 13th ribs) of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires.

Weaning Weight EPD (WW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit weaning growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires.

Weaned Calf Value ($W), an index value expressed in dollars per head, is the expected average difference in future progeny performance for preweaning merit. $W includes both revenue and cost adjustments associated with differences in birth weight, weaning direct growth, maternal milk, and mature cow size.

Yearling Weight EPD (YW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit yearling growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires. Maternal Milk EPD (Milk), is a predictor of a sire’s genetic merit for milk and mothering ability as expressed in his daughters compared to daughters of other sires. In other words, it is that part of a calf’s weaning weight attributed to milk and mothering ability.

Beef Value ($B), an index value expressed in dollars per head, is the expected average difference in future progeny performance for postweaning and carcass value compared to progeny of other sires.

Carcass Weight EPD (CW), expressed in pounds is a predictor of the differences in hot carcass weight of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires. 5

If you like bold stout cattle with a full deep quarter, that you want to stamp your calves with the look of what finished cattle should look like, then this is a bull to look up. His weaning and yearling epd’s both rank in the top 25%, and maternally his HP (heifer pregnancy) and Milk numbers rank in the top 15%. This easy fleshing, soggy Multi Task son comes at you with a thick ended massive look and the kind that just looks like he’s going to put pounds on his calves. Maternally his HP (heifer pregnancy) ranks in the top 1% and his milk number ranks in the top 25%. His $W ranks in the top 40% and the overall $B index ranks in the top 25%.

545 is a moderate framed easy fleshing deep ribbed bull. This big scrotal 107 son is smooth in his design yet thick and full quartered. This Buster 082 son has a calving ease fronted look to him being designed sleek and smooth in his front end and head design. A long topped and level hipped bull, he shows more muscle shape and expression than one would expect for his kind through his front end. His weaning and Yrlg epd’s have him in the top 25% for both and his combined $W value puts him in the top 30% for breed average.

This soggy sided, deep flanked Magnum 206 son is bold and massive in his rib and touts a low maintenance, conversion oriented look, which is backed up with a $EN value of +9.21 which ranks in the top 10%. Along with that in his Maternal EPD profile, he has a comfortable milk number for this environment of a +23, a HP (heifer pregnancy) of +26.4 (top 1%), and a CEM (Calving Ease Maternal) of +12 (top 10%). His CED and BW numbers at +12 and +1 respectively make him a wise choice for an easy calving sire to pass along daughters that calve easily, are low maintenance and functional. Next Up...the Yearling Bulls

MANAGEMENT OF YEARLING BULLS 1. Remember, your yearling bull has been on a higher energy ration than pasture and ration changes should be done gradually. It is good to let them harden up on pasture before breeding season begins. However the pasture must be good, and they still require extra energy and protein. If turned out on bad pasture or dropped off too fast, they can lose weight rapidly. Research shows that this causes a bull to produce poor quality semen and also affects the bull’s libido. It takes 60 days for sperm to develop and mature. High stress conditions during that time can reduce its fertilizing ability.

4. Watch a young bull early in the season to detect any physical problems. A virgin bull can have inadequacies undetectable except through observation. If possible, hand mate a young bull to a few cows prior to turning out in large breeding pastures to observe breeding ability. 5. Maintain a good general health program, salt, mineral and fly control. 6. Recondition young bulls after the breeding season to allow them to mature to their genetic capabilities. This is a very critical age as they start losing their teeth at 18-24 months. A young bull consequently eats slower and cannot utilize as rough a feed, or compete for feed, as one with permanent teeth. Worming can make a significant difference as well as a grub and louse control program. Research indicates that a bull’s usefulness as a two-year old can be retarded if not properly reconditioned after use as a yearling.

2. If handled properly and not dominated by older bulls, a young bull should service 20-25 females his first season. Size of the pasture and terrain also influence this. 3. Limit the breeding season to no more than 60 days on a yearling bull. If you can’t limit the season, consider rotation to give him a rest.

Here is an Amigo son that does a lot of desirable and profitable traits right. He comes from a Connealy Reflection dam that is just a complete and consistent cow. She’s easy fleshing, milks well, always weans calves at the front end of the group, and looks like a cow should in any setting. His epd credentials are as balanced and solid as 632D is himself. CE and Birth numbers rank in the top 20 and 25 percentile respectively. Docility- which we all know and can appreciate (not having it just is getting to be less and less tolerated), ranks him in the top 10%. Carcass wise, his Marb number goes top 25% and the overall API index goes top 15%.
