Nigel Lyon
Nigel Lyon
is a 53ft Trad style narrow boat with the usual bow arrangement of Cratch area with cover, side doors and a trad stern. She has a Mitsubushi Thorneycroft 4 cylinder marine diesel engine with hydraulic gearbox which will help you cruise the canals of Britain. She offers our standard 2 + 2 berth accommodation, a comfortable boat for living aboard with a layout of lounge leading into a comfortable kitchen, a spacious bathroom with pump out toilet and fixed double at the rear. Heating is provided by the Morso solid fuel stove in the saloon and the engine which feeds two radiators toward the stern. Something warm and snug for those cold winter nights.
The Cratch area provides a nice area to sit out and watch the world go by. It also houses the gas lockers and leads down into the Lounge area. Watch the ducks go by as you gently plough through the water, feed them and escape from the pressure of a “too busy” world.
HER FEEL She is traditional in decoration with a considerable amount of varnished wood making her warm and cosy – you will certainly know that you are living on a boat and the stove will keep you warm in winter… There are curtains or blinds to all windows. Flooring throughout is either laminate or vinyl floor coverings.
The Lounge This has a small flight of steps leading down into the fully carpeted living area where the woodburner sits snugly alongside one wall. The cabin is comfortable. Curtains add warmth for the winter nights! There is a multifuel stove and a comfortable sofa, which folds out to become a double bed for visitors to enjoy. The fire will take coal, wood and logs. Quickly reaching an acceptable temperature it will continue to warm the cabin. A traditional chimney exits through the roof straight above. From there this leads into ‌
The Kitchen
The kitchen facilities include sink and draining board – with plenty of space to stack dirty and clean dishes. The fridge sits underneath the worktops and a cooker is also housed here with gas hob above. The units underneath give ample storage for food and drink.
We provide crockery and cutlery for four people as we realise that you will want to entertain at some stage during your escape. Saucepans, sensible utensils, mineral glasses and good quality wine glasses are also provided, along with a kettle, corkscrew (of course) and all the things that you would expect on board.
From the kitchen you walk to the stern of the boat into :
The Shower and Bathroom A good sized shower, with fully tiled shower enclosure, together with a full size wash hand basin, mirror and pump out toilet.
From here, you walk into ‌
The Bedroom Providing a fixed double bed, it provides an element of night time luxury – (or even a snooze during the day!).
Please note that this picture is taken with the second permanent single bunk above the double, which suits someone who wants a small child to sleep in the same room or possibly two children sleeping in the bunk and the double with parents on the futon in the lounge. The bunk is removable before the boat goes out so that this room is simply then a double bedroom.
Nigel Lyon is quite simply a nice boat full of character. It will provide you with a wonderful home from home upon which to travel the canal network and see the sights you have always promised yourself you would see.
