Indicating Right described a menu of possible environmental performance indicators for waste management companies. It was a discussion document to stimulate debate among waste management companies and their many stakeholders including neighbours, regulators, clients, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), financial institutions, educators and policy-makers.
To understand what kind of indicators were already in widespread use, the discussion began with an analysis of the environmental reports of companies both inside and outside the waste management sector. A number of initiatives on indicators from national and international bodies were also studied. The report also looked at the scope and structure of indicators along with the search and establishment of denominators, to give the indicators value.
