This report is the result of a series of seminars held with key stakeholder groups - government, business, NGOs and representatives from academia - to discuss risk and scientific uncertainty.
Based on practical examples, this report identifies how the precautionary principle is viewed and used in decision-making. Crucially, a broad consensus emerged about the essential elements of precaution, as a way of making decisions under scientific uncertainty. We make key recommendations to business, NGOs and government with challenging guidelines for implementing precaution.
