INTRODUCTION When your child tells you about their adventures at YMCA Camp Wabansi, you’ll hear all about boating, swimming, singing camp songs, shooting bows and arrows, building campfires, creating art, close encounters with wildlife, playing sports, taking nature hikes, team-building, and endless fun. In fact, they are returning home with new skills, interests, character values, and amazing memories. When you snap a photo of your child being recognized by their own counselor at Family Night for the way they cared for a fellow camper, played with good sportsmanship, or acted as a role model for others, you will truly know the essence of the Camp Wabansi experience.

INTRODUCTION

Imagine your camper waking up in their cozy cabin on the shores of Chute Pond to the sound of the morning bell. The sun is just peeking up through the thick forest and the birds are chirping – it’s another beautiful day in the Northwoods of Suring, WI. The whole cabin group heads to the waterfront to cheer at the Polar Bear Plunge. After a family-style breakfast with their cabin mates and counselor, your camper glances at their schedule to see which morning activities they chose for today. Yesterday was their first time sailing and making a tie-dye t-shirt, and today is a nature scavenger hunt and archery! After lunch and rest hour, the whole cabin is signed up for the ‘Rave’ water trampoline, and then their counselor is going to teach them how to build a shelter in the woods. The bell rings for dinner and your camper heads up early because it’s their turn to set the table for their group. After dessert, they run down to visit the Camp Store before the all-camp game of Capture the Flag starts. Finally, the sun goes down and the cabin group is sitting around the campfire making s’mores. Their counselor leads evening reflections to help the campers discover what they’ve learned today about their activities, their environment, and themselves. After all, camp is all about growing in skills, responsibility, and confidence. We invite your camper to be a part of our 78-year tradition! 28
