The Emerald Isle Tour winds through Greene County’s picturesque countryside, rich with Irish heritage. Take Route 145 to East Durham, where you can experience the East Durham Irish Festival, Irish Arts Week, the Catskill Mountain Thunder Motorcycle Festival, and the Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival. Along the way, don’t miss Cunningham Road, one of the most scenic drives in the Great Northern Catskills.

For Twists & Curves: Take Prattsville Road along the reservoir between Gilboa and Prattsville, County Route 10 and Cunningham Road. Suggested Stops: East Durham, Gilboa Dam, Pratt Rock

The Great Northern Catskills of Greene County is a top motorcycling destination. Ride along winding mountain roads that take you to breathtaking scenic overlooks. Stop by one of the many quaint small towns along the way for a meal, shopping, and entertainment.

Durham Valley Scenic Byway

Breathtaking views and smooth roads

The Cat’s Tail Ride courses through the Durham Valley Scenic Byway, a route crafted by the founders of the Hudson Valley Biker Network. An out-and-back journey from Blackthorne Resort in East Durham, this ride winds along routes 10 and 20, linking Cornwallville and Cunningham roads with curves that mimic a cat’s tail.

For Twists & Curves: Take Route 20 right before Cornwallville for switchbacks.

Suggested Stop: Blackthorne Resort—home to the Catskill Mountain Thunder Motorcycle Festival

Mountain Clove & Catskill Mountain Scenic Byways

Feel the thrill of carving through the mountains

For a more adventurous ride, the Grand Tour of the Catskills takes you through rugged mountain terrain and expansive valleys in the heart of Catskill Park. Navigate winding roads at elevations around 3,500 feet as you cruise alongside picturesque streams and brooks. Expect to see towering peaks, rolling farmlands, and charming communities along the way.

To visit Kaaterskill Falls, turn off Route 23A onto Route 18 (North Lake Road), then take a right onto Laurel House Road. A short ¼-mile hike will bring you to the Viewing Platform, offering a stunning overlook of the falls and the Kaaterskill Clove.

Mountain Clove Scenic Byway

One of the most stunning rides through the Catskills

As you ascend into the mountains, some of the highest peaks in the Great Northern Catskills come into view. This round-trip loop offers breathtaking vistas of the region’s landscape and a drive-by glimpse of Kaaterskill Falls. For a closer look at Kaaterskill Falls, turn off Route 23A onto Route 18 (North Lake Road), then take a right onto Laurel House Road. A short ¼-mile hike will bring you to the Viewing Platform, offering a spectacular view of the falls and Kaaterskill Clove.

Be sure to stop at the Five State Lookout on Route 23, where, on a clear day, you can see the White Mountains of New Hampshire, the Green Mountains of Vermont, the Berkshires of Massachusetts, the Helderbergs of New York, and the Connecticut Valley.
