Welcome to the 13th Annual Waynesburg Sheep & Fiber Festival.

This free festival is presented on the third weekend of each May at the Greene County Fairgrounds by Waynesburg Prosperous & Beautiful, Inc. With its origins as a downtown street fair, the Waynesburg Sheep and Fiber Festival maintains a goal of attracting visitors to our historic community of Waynesburg and highlighting the significance of the lamb & fiber industry in Greene County, Pennsylvania. Now staged at our local fairgrounds, the festival continues to offer a host of educational and entertaining exhibits, contests and activities for fiber arts enthusiasts from throughout the region; and to promote American Lamb as the preferred choice for delicious cooking and dining. Free sampling is plentiful all weekend. Our region’s history in American Lamb and wool production is rich and we proudly claim many productive sheep farming operations still today. Thank you for joining our celebration. Activities include juried crafts and fiber arts vendors and fiber supplies, lamb cooking presentations, shearing, spinning and weaving demonstrations, shepherding dog shows, lead line, breed pavilion, fiber arts contest, hand spinning demos and competition, live music and interactive fiber-related children’s activities. Admission is free. Our festival is staged by a completely volunteer committee of area farmers, business people & community servants and is sponsored by civic-minded local business and industry. Enjoy your day!

Lamb Cooking Demonstration & Sampling Certainly the tastiest feature of the festival, our lamb cooking demonstrations have grown to also become one of the most popular activities. Guests are entertained by regional chefs as they prepare some of their favorite lamb dishes on site, and then enjoy plenty of free sampling. This year’s featured chefs include chefs include Back Bay Catering and Chef William Aupperle of the Lardin House in Masontown, PA. Each chef ’s dishes are prepared with fresh American Lamb from the renowned Elysian Fields Farm, sponsors of the lamb cooking demos at the festival. The Lamb Cooking Demos are organized by Candace Tustin. Shepherding Dog Shows

Always a popular event, the shepherding dog shows feature professional trainer and shepherd, Deb Nosse of Morgantown, WV demonstrating the natural herding instinct and capabilities of a well-trained sheep herding dog. Spectators are entertained and amazed by skilled Border Collies showing their stuff as they herd animals through obstacle courses. Three shows each day. Saturday & Sunday: Noon • 2pm • 4pm

Sheep Shearing Demo

Festival go’ers flock to the shearing demos for a great show watching a professional sheep shearer skillfully remove the entire fleece from the sheep before their eyes. Professional shearers are in high demand and travel extensively for the profession. Shearing shows are coordinated by Carol Adamson who also narrates the demonstration, explaining the process as you watch. There are three wool shearing demos per day. Saturday & Sunday: 11:30am • 1:30pm • 3:30pm

Shepherd’s Lead Line Contest The Shepherd’s Lead Line Contest is designed to showcase the relationship between the shepherd, the sheep and the wool clothing products made from sheep. Open to both boys and girls, the competitor leads a young sheep around the ring while wearing an outfit made primarily from wool. Clothing can include sewn, knitted, crocheted, felted or woven items. The contestant is judged on the appearance and handling of the sheep, as well as the outfit. Prizes are awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. The Shepherd’s Lead Line Contest is coordinated by Sioux Harbarger.

Fleece To Shawl Competition

The highly popular fleece to shawl competition also serves as one of the festivals most popular fiber arts skill demonstrations. Watch as teams of expert spinners and weavers begin with a raw fleece and finish with a completed shawl in a timed competition. These one-of-a-kind shawls are then offered for sale at public auction. Come ready to bid! Winning teams receive cash awards and a 3-day free pass donated by Pittsburgh Knit & Crochet Festival for the 2017 event. The Fleece to Shawl Competition is organized by Lynda West and is sponsored by Ten Mile Fiber Mill. Saturday 10am – Contest Begins. Saturday 2:30pm – Auction of shawls
