#INSTAHAMPTONS Fashion blogger and designer Jourdan Sloane’s all-black sporty style gets a light, bright update when she heads out East.

NO BOUNDARIES BEST KNOWN FOR HER FASHION BLOG THE LIMIT DOES NOT EXIST, JOURDAN SLOANE FINDS A RESPITE FROM CITY LIFE—AND THE RIGHT SETTING TO SWITCH UP HER STYLE—IN THE HAMPTONS. AS TOLD TO DANIELLE COHEN

“I went to fashion school— I’ve always loved fashion,” says Jourdan Sloane. “I originally started out in fine art, and I was really fed up with the idea of not being able to create a threedimensional, tangible object. So I went to fashion

design school, I learned how to sew, and I got involved with posting my street style on social media on a regular basis. “My personal style is pretty sporty, but I love to add feminine touches. So if I wear a skirt, I’m going to

wear sneakers with it. In New York City, I wear all black almost every single day. But in the Hamptons, I wear full-white, really bright, happy, cheery clothes. “There’s that really beachy and classic

atmosphere in the Hamptons, it’s very preppy in a way, so you can mix in a lot of florals and it’s a chance to show off new bathing suits. You can go to the beach, the pool, house parties, restaurants overlooking the water, and

really dress up. “I try to go out East as much as possible because it’s such an escape from city life. In the Hamptons, everyone lets loose and has an amazing time. Everyone is just happy to be there.” tldne.com

LETTER FROM THE EDITOR-IN-CHIEF

With Andrew Saffir, Karolína Kurková, and Daniel Benedict at Kurková’s cover party at Baron’s Cove.

One of my favorite stories in Hamptons is our feature on young Hamptonites. This season we celebrate 10 kids who grew up here, and explore where they are today. From pro surfer Balaram Stack to Henry Margaritis, founder of Off the Grill, a portable pizza oven catering company, it’s an impressive lot. Rebecca Knox is an actress, but she’s also working to grow her family’s mezcal brand, Doña Sarita. Michael Dougherty is an actor and filmmaker with a major production in the works; Caitlin Imrie is a boutique owner with shops along the East End and in Maui and St. Barth’s; Chloe Gifkins is a budding photographer; Ryan Moore, another photographer, shoots in the water (at any temperature); and Tyler Davis is a Montauk native and the founder of Happy Bowls. There’s also artist and rapper Jake Patterson, aka Yung Jake, and model Sailor Brinkley Cook, daughter of Christie Brinkley. As I said, it’s a cool crew. Read about them in “On the Rise” on page 60. This weekend, OCRFA’s Super Saturday—the ultimate meeting of shopping and philanthropy—takes place at Nova’s Ark Project in Water

Mill. Also this weekend, Jessica Seinfeld’s GOOD+ Foundation collabs with NET-A-PORTER, and the James Beard Foundation’s Chefs & Champagne honors Marcus Samuelsson at Wölffer Estate Vineyard. Pro surfer and Montauk native Quincy Davis teams up with chic shoemaker Koio Collective on a limited-edition handmade sneaker, and they celebrate with a pop-up and party this Saturday at the Surf Lodge. “I am such a sneaker girl!” says Davis. “I wear them down to the beach or with a cute dress to go out at night.” I’m with Quincy. We are right at that point in the Hamptons season when no one can believe it is already the end of July and that Labor Day is soon upon us… but forget all of that and have fun. There is so much coming up this season, and with your weekly issue of Hamptons, you’ll know exactly where to be and when! Enjoy the weekend!

LETTER FROM THE PUBLISHER

As we enjoy our last weekend in July, we continue to be grateful for all that we have in the stunning East End of Long Island. Recently I was out on the bay at sunset. The natural light was extraordinary, and its beauty took my breath away. At the same time, someone appropriately shouted out, “That’s why we are all here!” In this issue of Hamptons, we focus on our next generation of stars—the people to watch, young influencers who have only just begun to make their mark on the worlds of fashion, music, surfing, and more. Flip to “On the Rise” (page 60) for intimate interviews with our top 10 up-andcoming East Enders: Sailor Brinkley Cook, Tyler Davis, Michael Dougherty, Chloe Gifkins, Caitlin Imrie, Rebecca Knox, Henry Margaritis, Ryan Moore, Jake Patterson, and Balaram Stack. Of course when it comes to amazing young Hamptonites, I can’t forget my own wonderful children, Brittany, Chelsea, and Julian Dankner, along with many of my fabulous colleagues and friends. An influencer herself, the beautiful and talented Elettra Wiedemann graces our cover this issue. The daughter of actress Isabella Rossellini and granddaughter of Oscar winner

and screen icon Ingrid Bergman, Wiedemann talks about her passion for health, beauty, and food, and we see in her an actress, activist, and author making a difference in her own life and the lives of so many. Speaking of making a difference, this weekend, the philanthropic action takes place in Water Mill and Bridgehampton. On Saturday, July 29, we celebrate Super Saturday, the greatest shopping day of the year at Nova’s Ark in Water Mill, benefiting the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation. Later in the day, you’ll find us at the Watermill summer benefit, Fly Into the Sun, honoring Laurie Anderson and Isabelle Huppert. Wölffer Estate Vineyard will also be hosting Chefs & Champagne, this year honoring chef Marcus Samuelsson. So enjoy the natural beauty, go out on the water, watch a sunset, and spend some time supporting our great causes! I’ll see you on the sea or in town!

SUMMER SENSATIONS

Richard and Renée Steinberg with artist Pablo Dona at Market Art + Design.

Hamptons party season is in full swing, packing our weekends with must-attend events. Market Art + Design—the premier art fair of the summer—was a massive success, bringing some of the best artists in the country to the East End. The Avigdor/Peyton Team from Douglas Elliman hosted an event to promote a spectacular Water Mill home, with members from Market Art + Design in attendance. L’Objet also hosted a party, drawing a chic crowd of people searching for the perfect piece of home décor.

A buzzing crowd of collectors, curators, and art lovers streamed into Market Art + Design 2017, where they engaged with the fair’s 65 exhibiting galleries and made important acquisitions. From the opening-night preview— presented by 1stdibs and produced in support of the Parrish Art Museum—through the final evening, the fair was packed with East End influencers, many of whom enjoyed the Market Art + Design Garden Café, featuring refreshments from sponsors Godiva, Aperol Spritz, and Jadot. The event presented the Hamptons with a unique opportunity: a chance to interact with top gallerists, incredible art, and cutting-edge, object-oriented design, right in the center of Bridgehampton. In a unique cross-branding effort by the Avigdor/Peyton Team at Douglas Elliman Real Estate, brokers Raphael Avigdor and James Peyton found a creative way to spread the word about their modern new construction, built by George Kamper at 695 Little Noyac Path in Water Mill. Inviting the Market Art + Design organizers, in conjunction with a marketing campaign led by Hamptons, the brokers brought the prestigious Manhattan gallery Castle Fitzjohns of 98 Orchard Street, with its impressive artwork, to the Water Mill home for a gala opening and a one-month pop-up installation. The event was catered, and live music by the Richie Siegler Trio attracted nearly 200 faces to the new construction, with breathtaking views of the Great Peconic Bay and North Fork. The opening featured works from artists including Ori Carino, Sam Tufnell, WhisBe, Bradley Hart, JPO, Paton Miller, Max Wiedemann, Marcus Jansen, Frank Morrison, David Datuna, James Weber, and Kevin Connolly Gillespie.

LYSS STERN AND CAMP DIVALYSSCIOUS RETURN TO SUPER SATURDAY TO BENEFIT THE OVARIAN CANCER RESEARCH FUND. BY R. COURI HAY

Author Lyss Stern helps moms through both her new book and her Camp Divalysscious at Super Saturday.

This summer marks the tenth year that author Lyss Stern and her company, Divalysscious Moms, will run Camp Divalysscious at Super Saturday, the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance shopping benefit, slated for July 29 in Water Mill. The Divalysscious children’s activities have grown exponentially over the years: After starting out in a little tent, the camp now encompasses the entire kids’ section, keeping youngsters occupied while their parents shop the designer goods. “We entertain the kids—and the parents—all day long with ongoing activities,” says Stern, adding that Camp Divalysscious is suitable for ages two to 12. Tween girls in particular like to get their hair braided, get glitter tattoos, and decorate picture frames. “Moms come in and do some activities with kids as well,” Stern says. This year Stern will sign copies of her new book, Motherhood Is a B#tch: 10 Steps to Regaining Your Sanity, Sexiness, and Inner Diva, with proceeds going to OCRFA. Stern will also do a reading and signing at the UJA-Federation Trunk Show in Bridgehampton on August 3. Even harried moms can carve out time to help others, Stern says. “If I can make the time, you can make the time,” explains the mother of three. “If you can’t go to a meeting, perhaps there’s something you can do on social media, or get the kids involved, so you can do it together.” Super Saturday will be held on July 29 at Nova’s Ark Project, 30-60 Millstone Road, Water Mill, 631-537-0061; ocrfa.org/events/super-saturday.

GOOD TOGETHER! JESSICA SEINFELD, FOUNDER OF GOOD+, AND NET-A-PORTER’S ALISON LOEHNIS TELL US ABOUT THEIR COLLABORATION AND THE MOST COVETED TICKET OF THE WEEKEND. Talk about two powerhouse women coming together! Alison Loehnis, president of the high-end shopping site NET-A-PORTER, and East Hamptonite Jessica Seinfeld— author of best-selling cookbooks, including her latest, Food Swings— are having a big summer. Seinfeld’s nonprofit organization, the GOOD+ Foundation (goodplusfoundation.org), is hosting a fabulous dinner this Saturday, sponsored by NET-APORTER (net-a-porter.com). And to celebrate its fifth season of same-day summer delivery in the Hamptons, NET-A-PORTER has partnered with GOOD+ on a donation drive. From July 28 to August 13, NETA-PORTER Premier Service customers can donate new or gently used children’s clothing and books in the simplest possible way: When their order arrives at the door, the truck that brought it will also pick up donations and deliver them to the foundation’s New York warehouse, to be sent to a family in need enrolled in a GOOD+ program. Brilliant! Jessica, what’s the GOOD+ approach? Jessica Seinfeld: We focus on three areas: supporting new mothers, engaging fathers, and investing in early-childhood education and development. The programs provide services such as counseling, job training, and parenting support

Together we provide for the immediate health and safety needs of children, while parents get support to help lift the family out of poverty long-term. You have nearly 45,000 volunteers and have donated more than $35 million in essential children’s products. How have you done so much? JS: I have a brilliant team, and we’ve worked tirelessly for 16 years. We have the most dedicated volunteers, generous corporate support, and loyal families. Our explosive

growth here represents what New York is all about—people taking care of each other. How did the NET-APORTER collab arise? JS: When I was an insomniac and pregnant with our first child, 16 years ago, I found NET-A-PORTER late one night and have been a loyal fan ever since. I like to think our companies grew up together. Last year, I called Alison—we have mutual friends—and she instantly loved the idea of the partnership. Alison, everyone I know is NET-A-PORTER addicted—myself included! Tell me more about the partnership. Alison Loehnis: I love the idea of NET-APORTER addiction—it’s surely a positive one, no? Our delivery vans are already all over the Hamptons during the summer. We want to guarantee that our customer can count on us for lastminute summer fashion needs in the same way she has come to expect in the city, and we also want to enable her to support the wonderful work of Jessica and her team. Which designers are you most excited about? AL: Out East, I like to keep my wardrobe relaxed— easy pieces, no heels ever. You cannot go wrong with Lisa Marie Fernandez dresses; they take you from beach to dinner. For sandals, my go-tos are Ancient Greek Sandals or Alaïa. Ulla Johnson and Isabel Marant are also great. I’m never without my stash of Eres swimsuits or my

Bottega Veneta clutch. Which designers sell well in the Hamptons? AL: Chloé, Rosetta Getty footwear, Muuñ handbags, Borgo de Nor, and gorgeous swimwear brands like Fella and Rochelle Sara. Can you share any other NET-A-PORTER initiatives? AL: We have a very exciting fall season kicking off over the next few weeks, including a few amazing exclusive launches in store for September. FACE VALUE NEW YORK ACADEMY OF ART’S LATEST EXHIBITION AT THE SOUTHAMPTON ARTS CENTER PAINTS A FEW UNLIKELY PORTRAITS.

“I like characters who are not smiling—they’re sort of blank,” Cindy Sherman once said. “It makes the viewer come up with the narrative.” The artist’s enigmatic expression is one of some 70 stories waiting to be told in the New York Academy of Art’s “About Face: Contemporary Portraiture,” on view through September 17 at the Southampton Arts Center. Spanning painting, photography, and sculpture, the exhibition is a reminder of the enduring power of portraits in an age of infinite, transient selfies. “The human figure, particularly the face, is the visual key to our emotions,” says Scott Avett, lead singer of folk-rock band the Avett Brothers, who curated the show with Academy President David Kratz (both Avett and Kratz are also painters, with works in the show). “We are all immediately drawn to familiar expressions and positions that we recognize and relate to, either through association, curiosity, or longing.” The work of Academy artists is featured alongside that of celebrated East Enders such as Sherman, Eric Fischl, and Ralph Gibson. “The talent is legendary,” adds Avett. Expressive canvases by the likes of Dana Schutz, Nicole Eisenman, and Mickalene Thomas draw visitors into the heart of the survey. Laurie Simmons is represented by two large-scale photographs from her recent “How We See” series, in which prismatically lit models appear to glare through closed eyelids painted to look like open eyes. The doll-like effect, at once mesmerizing and unsettling, is echoed in Peter Drake’s Doughboy, a painting that transforms a toy soldier into a grizzled war veteran. “Every face tells a story if you take the time to read it,” says Kratz. “This is a way to present some of those stories—the ones that are particularly relevant today. We get a pretty complete picture of how contemporary artists are looking at the world around them and, I dare say, themselves.” July 28–September 17, 25 Jobs Lane, Southampton, 631-283-0967; southamptonartscenter.org

WILSON IN WONDERLAND ROBERT WILSON, THE GLOBE-TROTTING THEATER DIRECTOR AND FOUNDER OF THE WATERMILL CENTER, MAKES TIME FOR A TRIP DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE WITH AN INSTALLATION IN VENICE. BY OUSSAMA ZAHR

You’ve just closed an installation in Venice that showcases all the artists who have designed espresso cups for the Italian coffee company Illy over the past 25 years. It’s quite a list. What I found fascinating was how different each artist was from the others. Hence the title: the dish ran away with

the spoon everything you can think of is true. This is what the caterpillar said to Alice in Alice in Wonderland. The existing architecture [of the Magazzini del Sale in Venice] suggested to divide the room into eight spaces. It was like falling through a rabbit hole and entering different roles. The Watermill

Center’s summer benefit is always a must-have ticket, and the theme of this year’s gala on July 29 is “Fly into the Sun.” We are paying homage to my dear friend the late Lou Reed. This is one of his titles. I like it because it is full of so many associative ideas. We will also feature a major sculptural

installation, which should be a surprise for all. What are some of your favorite things to do in the Hamptons? Having a vodka tonic in my friend Barbara Slifka’s beautiful garden in Sagaponack; visiting my friends Louise MacBain and Mathew Kabatoff, who have a beautiful Stanford

White house from the 1890s on the beach in Southampton; placing flowers on the grave of George Balanchine in Sag Harbor. Where can we find you on a typical Saturday? The Watermill Center. How do you keep so many balls in the air? I don’t waste time. watermillcenter.org

involved, whose food are you most excited to taste? All of them! Alex Guarnaschelli is always a favorite, the North Fork Table & Inn is great, Virginia’s is exciting, and I have to get my hands on some Pig Beach barbecue. What are you cooking this summer? We’re thinking of doing something from Red Rooster Harlem and something from Streetbird Rotisserie. We’ll probably have a mix of seafood and grill meats. Come hungry!

What is your fondest memory of the East End? East Hampton reminds me a lot of my childhood growing up in Sweden, being by the water and out in nature. I love fishing, cooking outdoors, and experiencing the slower pace of things. Where do you get the freshest produce in the Hamptons? I like to hop around to farmers markets for the freshest ingredients. Nothing beats that. If you hosted a fantasy

beachside dinner, who would be at the table? David Bowie, for sure. He taught me so much about being different and being okay with it. I would also have the soccer player Diego Maradona, Miss Leah Chase from New Orleans, and Nelson Mandela. IN RECORD TIME ORLEBAR BROWN CELEBRATES ITS FIRST TEN YEARS WITH COLLABORATIONS AND AN ANNIVERSARY COLLECTION PERFECTLY TAILORED FOR EAST END MEN. BY CONNOR CHILDERS

Building a successful fashion brand in today’s economic climate is no easy feat. Yet that’s just what Adam Brown has accomplished in a short period of time with Orlebar Brown, the luxury men’s resortwear line that has transformed the men’s swim market, and that celebrates its first decade in business this summer. “The whole idea started forming as a tailored approach to swim shorts, a short you can swim in,” says Brown, the brand’s founder. For the anniversary collection, he revisited his initial inspiration, David Hockney’s painting A Bigger Splash, by pulling in bright, saturated colors and modern takes on 1960s silhouettes. Also mixed in is clear inspiration from global travels, which both the OB man and Brown himself are accustomed to—including the exceptional East End, where Brown frequently visits and vacations. But the celebration doesn’t stop there: Brown is collaborating with Tumi to create the perfect beach bag, available in a nautical navy option or in one of OB’s iconic photo prints; and with the media company Beautiful Destinations—and artists Sam Feldt and Sanda Anderlon—to produce lines of custom-printed swim shorts. Orlebar Brown has experienced exceptional growth, and rightfully so. With 20 stores worldwide, a fierce social media presence (if you haven’t searched #OBsAroundTheWorld, you’re missing out), an app called SnapShorts, and an unwavering brand identity, one thing is certain: This is just the beginning. 55 Newtown Lane, East Hampton, 631-324-3960; orlebarbrown.com

It’s rare to

find a person who fires on as many cylinders as Elettra Wiedemann. Worldly, wise, creative, and original, the 34-year-old Bellport resident has positioned herself as a new-guard food star, offering spot-on food-prep and wellness insight as the blogger Impatient Foodie (impatientfoodie.com). Wiedemann also happens to be a supermodel, having posed for top photographers and walked on high-profile runways for more than a decade. Meanwhile, she found time to pen her new cookbook, Impatient Foodie: 100 Delicious Recipes for a Hectic, Time-Starved World—a must for on-the-go cooks everywhere. While this bounty of brains and beauty might make another person insufferable, Wiedemann speaks from gratitude rather than ego as she recounts her parallel careers. “Something I’m continuously surprised by is how I can do things that initially feel impossible,” she says. “I always think I know nothing at the beginning [of a project]. But I do know. This book taught me that I am capable of a lot more than I think I am.” Impatient Foodie is a cleverly crafted and easy-to-follow cookbook that takes its cues from Wiedemann’s popular food blog of the same name. In it, she invites chefs of every level to cook their way through 100 meals that take 30 minutes or less to make. The much-vetted recipes are categorized by a primary ingredient (winter squashes, herbs, strawberries, etc.), with four recipes incorporating each star ingredient. “When Scribner, my publisher, said I needed 100 recipes, I thought, I can’t do that. But lo and behold, I pumped out 100 recipes in two and a half weeks… A to Z, asparagus to zucchini, four options for each,” she says. While jitters are understandable for anyone in Wiedemann’s position, those who have loved her online perspective would never doubt her ability to put an engaging and fresh spin on the time-honored cookbook. She’s been examining

our eating habits for several years—notably as Refinery29.com’s food editor— acknowledging how our good intentions don’t always get us far at the end of a busy workday. “As I was looking through the cookbooks that I own, one thing stood out to me,” she says. “We are often going through the grocery store in a daze, after a long day at work. We’ll be going through the aisles, listening to a podcast, and we’re not necessarily all there,” Wiedemann explains. “And yet we don’t want to throw our standards for food out the window. This cookbook is designed to help you, right there at that moment.” The model’s perspective must be striking a powerful chord. She’s gearing up for a plum gig that few would even dream of: “Oprah invited me to be a speaker on her cruise,” she says. Yes, that Oprah. (“A cookbook for you, and a cookbook for you…”) “It’s nerve-wracking, but I know I can do it.” Having a copy of Impatient Foodie in your Hamptons kitchen makes a lot of sense. “You have so much beautiful food around you during the summer in the Hamptons,” she enthuses. “Shopping around the farmers market is amazing. Impatient Foodie helps you have the best of two worlds: You have the opportunity to grill and be with your family, yet still have a full social calendar.” In 30 minutes or less, you have a delicious and healthy meal, with the regrets trimmed off. Wiedemann’s years as a fashion model played a big role in her understanding of and appreciation for the art of cooking, particularly when it comes to craftsmanship. “People in the fashion industry—editors, stylists, photographers—really appreciate artisanship,” she notes. “Just look at Vogue.com and you’ll see how much attention is paid to stitching and pleating.” She points out, however, that recent years have seen the industry veer off-course, into more mass production. “When my mom was modeling, fashion was much more about artisanship.

“THE FOOD WORLD HAS BECOME MUCH MORE ABOUT APPRECIATING, TOUCHING, AND EXPERIENCING SOMETHING THAT CAN NEVER BE PRODUCED AGAIN.”

Meanwhile, the food world has become much more about appreciating, touching, and experiencing something that can never be produced again.” Wiedemann’s mother is none other than film star Isabella Rossellini, who taught her the ABCs of cooking and is, naturally, her biggest fan. “My mama is proud,” Wiedemann says. “Embarrassingly, she wrote me an Amazon review as my mother.” She admits, though, that Rossellini was slow to get behind her as she embarked on her Impatient Foodie journey, but has since come around. “When I told her I was going to start the blog in 2014, she didn’t get it. She thought I should just try and get a job at Vogue. ‘Just call Anna,’ she said. But then it took off, and I think she was as surprised as I am that my life turned around so dramatically.” Recently, Wiedemann’s life took another dramatic turn—she is pregnant with her first child. She has thought long and hard about what it means to be a mother, and how everything—food choices included—makes an impact on children. “I often thought, even before I was pregnant, that I’d like my book to be helpful in households with young children,” she says. “I was raised on a primarily Mediterranean palate, and I wonder what moms in China or India are feeding their kids, what flavors and textures they use. I hope to introduce my child to as many foods as possible, and explore a spectrum of regional cuisines.” Even bachelors can rely on Wiedemann’s expertise to feel more confident in the kitchen. “Cooking isn’t about cooking; it’s about independence,” she declares. “This book is actually ideal for young men striking out on their own, without a lot of kitchen space, who want to be cooking for themselves and learn a few basic skills.” Independence, artistry, family ties, and confidence. Elettra Wiedemann has built her life on these principles, and the door to each is found in the kitchen.

HENRY MARGARITIS 26

For Henry Margaritis, cofounder of Off the Grill caterers, the ideal Hamptons gathering is informal, relaxed, and the antithesis of uptight. “A lot of the catered parties I go to are so stuffy,” he says. “Those are plated, sit-down dinners, and we wanted to do something more fun, cool, and casual.” So Margaritis teamed up with his pal Ryan Piscitelli to offer an alternative, focused on a portable brick pizza oven, plancha, and charcoal grill that they set up in clients’ backyards to cook up specialties like fish tacos, grilled Mexican corn, and pizza with caramelized onions, sautéed mushrooms, and truffle oil. Despite having worked for esteemed chefs like April Bloomfield and studying at the International Culinary Center, Margaritis has always loved unfussy, casual food. “I grew up eating grilled cheese and french fries from the concession at Cooper’s Beach as a kid,” he says. “My brothers and I were there seven days a week each summer, even if it was raining.” But while his food is low-key, sourcing top-tier ingredients is a priority for Margaritis, who lives in Southampton Village. The seafood is either caught by fishing friends, purchased at the local market Cor-J Seafood, or reeled in by Margaritis and Piscitelli themselves. The vegetables have a similar pedigree: “We’re at the farmstands every morning picking out stuff,” he says. “All of our produce is in season.” Beyond serving delicious fare, Off the Grill’s unique catering model allows Margaritis and Piscitelli to enjoy an added perk that more formal caterers, tucked inside a kitchen or garage doing prep work, can’t. “We’re in the backyard, so we [become] part of the party,” he says.

SAILOR BRINKLEY COOK 19

STYLING BY JENNY HARGROVE; HAIR AND MAKEUP BY SHAYNA GOLD

As she’s the daughter of model Christie Brinkley, it would be easy to assume that Sailor Brinkley Cook spends her post-high school days focused solely on modeling. Instead she chose the role of student, attending the prestigious Parsons School of Design. “I feel like I couldn’t live with myself if I didn’t get my college degree,” she says. “I pride myself on getting an education and having that to back me.” Her mother’s time in front of the camera, however, might have influenced Cook to pursue a major in photography. “I carried around a camera from age 5,” she says. “I was obsessed. When Facebook profile pictures were a huge thing for young kids, I would be the person that everyone would call and we’d do mini photo shoots. I always knew that it was something I wanted to do.” Now she hopes to use that passion to give back. “What I would really love to be able to do in photography is to tell other people’s stories and give a voice to the voiceless, especially in travel and photojournalism,” Cook says. “I love hearing what people have to say, to be able to create but also somehow make a difference.” Still, she does do some modeling, like a recent campaign for the online clothing retailer Boohoo. For that, her mother offers advice that goes beyond how to strike a flattering pose: “Be kind and really respect everyone.”

REBECCA KNOX 24

Rebecca Knox has two jobs that, at first glance, seem completely unrelated: acting and helping spread the word about her family’s mezcal brand, Doña Sarita, as its vice president. But Knox sees similarities in the two roles. “You have to get used to hearing the word ‘no,’” she explains. “When you audition, people don’t always want you for that role, and when you go into restaurants and bars, some people don’t care about the brand. It always helps to give off a confident presence.” That confidence has paid off in both fields: Doña Sarita has won awards at several prestigious spirits competitions, and Knox has appeared in films like Return to Montauk, directed by critically acclaimed director Volker Schlöndorff, and on the television show Bull. Unlike the many actors who are based in Los Angeles, she divides her time between an apartment on the Upper East Side and East Hampton, where she lives with her family at their hotel, the White Sands Resort. “I love New York and being close to East Hampton, and I’ve found that there are plenty of opportunities to work here,” says Knox, who is grateful for having been raised out East. “It’s a beautiful environment to grow up in,” she raves. “It’s unlike any other place I know. We’re close to the city but we’re still in the countryside.”

R YA N M O O R E 26

Photographer Ryan Moore’s colorful, evocative work is essentially a visual ode to the beaches of the Hamptons. “That’s pretty much what I was going for,” he says. “I was always at the beach as a kid. When we were surfing, there would be these crazy moments where we’d be the last ones in the water, or the first ones in the water in the early morning, and I saw these moments of pure beauty. I just loved it and wanted to capture it.” Catching the vivid colors and activities on the local beaches undoubtedly requires dedication. “It’s definitely weird hours,” says Moore. “I’ve gotten up at four in the morning to be ready to shoot from the water. Waking up that early is not something that I love to do, but once you’re shooting it’s totally worth it, if the sunrise cooperates.” Moore, who lives in North Sea, shoots his beach and ocean photographs throughout the year—even in the wintertime, when freezing temperatures make projects extra challenging. “My motto is ‘Tropical to tundra’ for the conditions I shoot in,” he says. In the winter, his forays involve donning a wetsuit and covering his camera in a case that allows him to shoot underwater. Although he has made a name for himself taking and selling photographs, Moore, who went to Southampton High School, was not inherently drawn to the arts. “I didn’t like art class that much, because I couldn’t paint,” he admits. “I was looking at magazines and I was like, ‘I want to do that,’ so I started taking pictures of my friends.” A few years ago, his main subject matter switched to the beach nearby. As he puts it, “Around 20 years old, something hit me: This is one of the most beautiful places on the planet.”

MICHAEL DOUGHERTY 26

The path to success hasn’t been the traditional route of auditions and director meetings for actor Michael Dougherty. “I had an awakening and knew that if I was going to make it in this business, I couldn’t wait for the phone to ring,” he says. “I couldn’t rely on anyone to do it for me, so I decided to write and create passion projects.” One of those ventures is Love & Everything in Between, a film Dougherty wrote, produced, and stars in—shot right here on the East End. Born in Southampton and raised in East Quogue, Dougherty felt the region was a natural fit for the film’s story. “The one thing that I [knew] from the outset is that I wanted to highlight the beauty of the Hamptons,” he explains. “That is the main character within this film.” Recognizable locations include Gosman’s Dock, 75 Main, and beaches in Montauk and Quogue where Dougherty surfed as a boy. The filmmaker’s love of acting began around age 8, when he started landing roles in school plays at Our Lady of the Hamptons Regional Catholic School in Southampton. “I was memorizing lines and performing in front of an audience of about 300,” he recalls. “That was the initial spark to delve into the arts.” These days, Dougherty lives most of the year in Los Angeles, where he has an apartment in Hollywood, but he has been spending ample time in Quogue working on the film, which he has submitted to several film festivals. Next on his to-do list? More filmmaking, of course: He has a handful of projects in various stages of development.

CHLOE GIFKINS 27

Photography has been a passion for Chloe Gifkins since she was a student at Southampton High School. “I’ve always loved taking photographs,” she says. “It’s just been part of my identity. My friends knew I was someone with a camera all the time, and then I just started to continue building that craft.” To that end, Gifkins attended Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, then landed the internship of a lifetime with acclaimed rock photographer Michael Halsband. “Some days he would say, ‘Would you just look through these photos of the Rolling Stones and scan them into the computer?,’ which was heaven for me,” she says. These days, the photographer commutes between a house in Sag Harbor Village and her Greenpoint, Brooklyn, apartment. Concert photos, unsurprisingly, are one of her specialties; she’s shot live concert images of performers like 50 Cent and the Flaming Lips. “It can be really challenging, as lights change and people move, but I love that you’re on your feet catching the moment,” she says. “I did visual journalism at school, and that translates to this kind of stuff. You have to photograph the things that are happening in real time, so for me it’s exciting.” She’s also excited to be making her own music, working on recording an album with her friend Mike Abiuso. “I definitely draw inspiration from Norah Jones and Amy Winehouse,” Gifkins says of her sound. “But I don’t think it would be fair to put me in that club.”

CAITLIN IMRIE 30

Fans of Imrie—the beachy boutique with locations in Westhampton Beach and East Hampton, as well as St. Barth’s and Maui—are drawn to the brand for its selection of relaxed, chic, and easy-to-wear clothing and accessories. For co-owner Caitlin Imrie, the store is extra special—a family affair. “Everyone is somehow involved— that was sort of the whole idea of it when we started the business,” Imrie explains. While she focuses on merchandising, sales, and store layouts, one of her sisters works on social media and another handles business affairs. Their sister-in-law makes jewelry, one brother creates small leather goods like belts and bags, the other photographs the shops’ offerings, and their parents are active in the business as well. “We’ve spent our entire lives with each other,” she says. “We’re a very, very close family.” In addition to the boutiques, Imrie’s other focus is horseback riding, which she has been doing since growing up in Quogue, where she still lives. “I’ve been riding since I was 2, and it’s just my passion,” she says. “There’s a little bit of risk and a bit of freedom, and working with something that’s unknown—you’re dealing with a 1,500-pound animal. It’s not just dependent on you; it’s dependent on how you can work as a team. It requires so much patience and also so much strength.” A personal high point of her year is planned for September: Imrie is repeating her wedding vows with husband Marcilio “Brawzinho” Browne de Oliveira, a professional windsurfer, in a beachfront ceremony in Jericoacoara, a small fishing village in his native Brazil. Of course, her family will be there. Says Imrie, “We’re going to be closing [the store] for the first time pretty much ever then.”

JA K E PAT T E R S O N XX

Rapper and artist Jake Patterson—better known as Yung Jake—is a mystery to most. He will consent to interviews only via text—interrupted periodically by a car parking or an imminent meeting—and refuses to give his age. He will, however, share some basic facts: He grew up in Sag Harbor, is now based in Los Angeles, and graduated from the ultra-prestigious California Institute of the Arts. This summer Patterson’s work has been shown at galleries on both coasts: in a solo show at Steve Turner in Los Angeles and at Southampton’s Tripoli Gallery of Contemporary Art. He’s decidedly succinct about the work in both exhibitions, describing the first as “a bunch of yellow pieces of steel and a yellow truck and a bunch of wrappers” and the second as simply “emoji portraits.” He enjoyed growing up in the Hamptons, but feels that Los Angeles is the best place for his art. “It’s slower than NYC,” Patterson says. “I have more time to think and don’t feel pressured to always be doing stuff.” Unlike many artists, Patterson is refreshingly down to earth—and nonchalant—about his creative process. “I sort of just make stuff,” he explains. “Sometimes it’s good and sometimes it sucks. Sometimes the good stuff sells, which is good, and sometimes the bad stuff sells, which is good. I enjoy making the stuff, which is the best part.” “Emoji Portraits” is on view through August 14 at Tripoli Gallery, 30A Jobs Lane, Southampton, 631-377-3715; tripoligallery.com

Montauk native Tyler Davis opened the healthy and casual eatery Happy Bowls in his hometown, but his inspiration came from trips far beyond the Hamptons. “I traveled across South America and came across açai,” he recalls. “I just knew if I could make bowls at a fast pace, and make them at a high standard, that they would do really well in Montauk.” Happy Bowls, which debuted in 2013, has indeed been a success, starting with açai bowls and adding on-trend Hawaiian poke to its menu this year. For the latter, Davis sources freshly caught tuna that fisherman pals bring in straight from the boat. For the açai, he offers a wealth of toppings that make each bowl customizable. “The first year, I was [constantly] recommending things. Now people come in with their specific order,” he says. “We have 30 different toppings”—ranging from fresh fruit to chocolate from local candy stores. “It’s so cool to see everyone trying new things.” This summer is a major one for the business: Davis is getting a Manhattan location ready, in the always-happening East Village. At around 1,700 square feet, it’s more than twice the size of the Montauk space. Says Davis, “I always said that if I was going to go to New York City and open a Happy Bowls there, it would be the biggest açai bar that New York City will ever see.”

Why does surfer Balaram Stack love the Hamptons? The waves, of course. “I started going there when I was 15,” he says. “I would just go for swells. Georgica is the most powerful one I’ve gone to. It has steep beach breaks, which is different than Long Beach, where I grew up—it’s shallower and heavier.” These days he lives on the Lower East Side in Manhattan but admits that he’s rarely home. Instead, he’s on the road for around eight months each year, traveling to enviable destinations like Bali and other picturesque spots in the South Pacific. “I love the travels,” he says. “It gets to be a lot sometimes, but I just think about what I would be doing otherwise—and that I wouldn’t want to be doing anything else.” The majority of those trips are related to Stack’s sponsorships by brands like Volcom, having videos taken and doing interviews. “That’s the whole support behind my career,” he says. “The only reason I’m able to travel is because of them. It’s awesome because [I’ve built] a friendship with the crews I’ve worked with. It’s a pretty fun industry to be a part of.” An affiliation he’s especially proud of is with Oceanic Global, a nonprofit organization that works to raise awareness of the fragile state of the world’s oceans. “It’s only right for me to give back to something that has provided a whole career that I love so much,” he says. “The ocean is everything to me.”

PARTY CENTRAL EVENT ORGANIZER AND RESTAURATEUR CELESTE FIERRO TURNED A SPRAWLING HOUSE IN AMAGANSETT INTO A PERFECT ENTERTAINING SPACE FOR HER FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

At her home in Amagansett, Celeste Fierro added pops of color to an otherwise neutral scheme with works of art by contemporary artists, such as Peter Tunney.

An elaborate chandelier in the foyer contrasts with the relaxed furnishings in the den.

As the cofounder of a group of super-successful, high-energy upscale restaurants, Celeste Fierro is no stranger to the art of entertaining. Since launching her first restaurant in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District in 2004, and later opening the STK group of steakhouses and taking over the operations of a collection of Bagatelle and Cucina Asellina eateries along the East Coast, the hospitality maven and event planner continuously strives to expand an empire known as The One Group, which now includes 26 restaurants in prominent cities across the country. Given her reputation as a consummate hostess, it’s hardly surprising, then, that the home she shares with her husband and stepchildren in Amagansett would be primed for entertaining all year long. “I’m an event person, so I needed a place that would allow me to host parties for 10 or 200,” says the restaurateur. “I began my search for a home in the Hamptons 10 years ago and gave up for a while when I couldn’t find what I wanted.” But when a longtime friend in Amagansett urged her to see

a nearby four-bedroom shingle-style house last year, Fierro followed through— and knew it was the one the moment she laid her eyes on it. “It’s a 6,000-squarefoot house on three acres with four bedrooms, a fully finished basement, and a large open kitchen that flows out to the deck, patios, and the heated pool in the back with multiple seating areas that are great for entertaining.” With other homes in New York City, Los Angeles, and New Orleans, Fierro is constantly on the move. So her place in the Hamptons is something of a respite for her and her family whenever they come for a stay out East. “This is where I unwind,” Fierro says. “There’s a reserve behind the house that’s very quiet and peaceful.” As such, she kept the interiors clean, simple, and easy to maintain with classic furnishings and an uncomplicated neutral palette, a counterpoint to her busy life. “I picked out all of the new furnishings myself from places like Restoration Hardware or Montauk Furniture,” she says of her approach to the décor. “But I also mixed in antiques and little things I picked up over the years to give the rooms some eclectic flair.” Among the older treasures is a massive mirror she discovered in an antiques shop on St. Charles Avenue in New Orleans and a wonderful chandelier, both of which now adorn the foyer. The clean interiors also allow parties to fluidly move indoors and out. “We have a lot of people flowing in and out of the house,” she notes. So much of the décor revolves around the multiple serving areas and seating groups around the patios and kitchen, which she ultimately reconfigured and opened further, giving guests as many options for relaxing, eating, and imbibing as they would find in any of her restaurants. The private spaces on the upper level, however, are all about serenity. The spare master bedroom overlooks the quiet grounds, while the sunken tub in the Zen-like master bath is surrounded with candles and little Buddha statues. “It creates a very nice calming, spiritual balance to the rest of my life, which can be filled with so much chaos,” says Fierro. “It’s like a spa.” It’s also just what a party girl extraordinaire needs to start and end her day.

Steps from the ocean and just minutes from The Stephen Talkhouse, the Amagansett Lanes are ideally situated. But until 10 years ago, they primarily contained small ranch-style homes and cottages. That’s why the new mansion at 56 Hedges Lane is such a prize. “New construction is extremely rare there,” says William “JR” Kuneth, the Halstead listing agent representing the property. Most buyers on the Lanes—four streets connecting Montauk Highway and Bluff Road— end up rebuilding. “As more houses get torn down, it increases demand and raises prices,” he says. This six-bedroom, six-and-a-halfbath home is designed for summer living. “You’re greeted by a 30-foothigh entry hall and drawn directly through the house, beyond the open main living space, to a wall of glass and a sun-drenched backyard with a white gunite saltwater pool,” says Kuneth. Luxurious features include a sauna and massage room, but the floor plan ultimately defines the feel. “Our homes are designed for entertaining,” he explains. “An open plan offering room for everyone in one space and connecting you to the outdoors is what living here is all about.” Prices and competition in the Lanes have surpassed pre-recession levels. “This used to be way undervalued,” Kuneth says. “It was a secret treasure— now becoming an estate location.” 56 Hedges Lane is listed for $5.6 million and represented by William “JR” Kuneth at Halstead Real Estate, 2 Newtown Lane, East Hampton, 631-771-5319; halstead.com.

THE GREAT OUTDOORS WONDERING HOW BEST TO FEATHER YOUR NEST? DON’T NEGLECT THE OUTDOOR AREAS. OUR PANEL OF EAST END REAL ESTATE, DESIGN, AND LANDSCAPING WIZARDS SHARES THE LATEST TRENDS. MODERATED BY MICHAEL BRAVERMAN

Designed by Landscape Details, this Mecox backyard uses a shaded deck and umbrellas to create a perfect space for poolside lounging, while the surrounding gardens and climbing roses enhance the feeling of tranquility.

Our panel of experts discusses trends in outdoor living at the Southampton Arts Center, seen here in front of artwork by Paton Miller.

What does outdoor living mean to your clients? Mala Sander: If I were to show two houses, one with beautiful outdoor living spaces already set up and one that was just grass and a pool, they’d be like, “Wait, where’s the patio, where’s the outdoor fireplace and kitchen?” Even if that one was priced less, most would go for the one that was already done, because it reflects how they see themselves living in the Hamptons. Michael Derrig: Husbands, especially, will say, “I don’t go inside. I stay outside under the pool house or arbor. I spend all my time here. I shower here.” It’s amazing how much time they spend in the backyard. Tim O’Connor: A lot of clients want bigger doors that open up, so inside and outside intersect. Every chance they get, it’s like, “Where are the exits? How quickly can you get out?” What about the idea of outdoor “rooms”?

This week, our panel of local experts features real estate pros Tim O’Connor and Mala Sander, pool guru Ian Fyffe, builder Ron Friedman, landscaper Michael Derrig, and interior designer Zoe Hoare. Read on for highlights of their up-front conversation about what’s new in the backyard.

MD: People need to be concerned about overprogramming them with pizza ovens and grills and fire pits. I try to make them disappear in a green landscape. Ian Fyffe: I don’t want to see all that stuff until I want to use it. MS: But some people do. It’s part of the prestige of having those things. TO: It’s a trophy to people. MD: That’s too bad. You gotta try and educate them that it’s not a good look. What are people spending on these things now? MD: A lot of money. TO: It’s not an afterthought anymore. Zoe Hoare: Yes, it’s not going down to Kmart and picking out a few blue-and-white waterproof cushions. Now you go to your decorator and say, “I want performance outdoor fabrics, and I want trim, and I want some tassels, because my Fendi handbag has tassels, so I want to go bohemian outside.” Performance fabrics are as fashion-forward as fabrics we live with indoors, fabrics we wear. Ron Friedman: For one house, we just ordered all cushionless outdoor lounges and couches. ZH: I don’t like the sound of that! RF: It’s very soft, almost like a mesh but very comfortable. Your body leans into it. MS: By the pool, when you get out wet, you get on that and it doesn’t matter. IF: With pool covers, they’re [using] some of those fabrics instead of that pleather finish. And a self-contained hot tub doesn’t have to be ugly. RF: On most houses, we design phantom screens that come down; you want to make sure you feel comfortable with the door open all day. It used to be a real luxury, and now it’s almost a must-have.

PHOTOGRAPHY BY DANIEL GONZALEZ (PANELISTS); BABYLON AND BEYOND PHOTOGRAPHY (GATE AND PERGOLA); HH CO (SPA PROJECT)

Are your customers telling you about trends they’ve seen? TO: People come with interesting ideas but think it’s all going to happen in half an hour, like on those thousands of design shows on TV. ZH: Yes, a “daykover.” RF: I also think it’s what they’re seeing in the resorts they go to. ZH: That’s where the bar outside came from— the hotel. IF: I haven’t seen a more consumer-driven product than saltwater pools. I’m not a fan; it’s too corrosive. Our basic pool maintenance gives you a low level of chlorine— bottled-water quality— without having to use the salt. TO: I’m finding if customers don’t see something, they can’t envision it. We have a home that’s new construction, unstaged, and we’re going to Photoshop it. Then you see a lot of homes built in the early ’90s—“Dynasty homes,” with the double-height ceilings, the grand staircase. No one can sell them because they’re just too big. One street has seven of them! People want the space, but they want it to feel more intimate. MS: The pendulum swings so dramatically. I sold a six-year-old home to people who then tore it down because it just wasn’t the [current] design—and believe me, it wasn’t priced as a teardown. They ripped it down and built a beautiful

modern home. Overall, I’m seeing that clean trend, the clean box. ZH: Less cluttered. How does that modernism translate outdoors? MS: Very easily. You have doors that slide open, so a simple room opens to beautiful “rooms” outside. ZH: Outdoor lighting. You can buy a tree that’s worth the same as a small Picasso, so you’d better light it at night and make it a piece of art. MD: Gardens are less fussy, with less flowers, more simple lines. Also just simplifying the landscape, so it has longevity: People forget how big plants should be. If you want to keep a 12-foot shrub at three feet for 20 years, it’s going to look like a green meatball. One personal question: Where do you go when you want to be outdoors? RF: I use my outdoor cooking area constantly, even in the winter. MD: I’m an early riser, so I saw the sunrise this morning at the beach. IF: Pretty much anywhere outside is fine. The stars early this morning were just amazing. They were from the horizon line all the way around. MS: People will say, “Oh, it’s winter, come down to Florida.” I’ll be packing my bags in the morning, and I see this beautiful light and beautiful sky. It’s like being on vacation all the time. Why am I going?

You’ve likely booked a bike at SoulCycle’s über-popular and super-chic Bridgehampton location, known to followers as the Barn. But did you know that a new wellness hub has sprung up below the cardio action? This summer, SoulCycle teamed up with Lululemon to launch Below the Barn—a 2,200square-foot health haven, open until September 4. The minimalist space hosts an impressive roster of vendors, classes, and events, allowing Hamptonites to try new products and services, while promoting a sense of community among wellness devotees out East. “This space is meant to be a home base to discover new products, grow through experiences, and connect,” says SoulCycle’s Gabby Etrog Cohen. The pop-up incorporates a small marketplace offering products from health-focused favorites like Supergoop!, Captain Blankenship, and Naturopathica, along with an exclusive Below the Barn capsule collection from Lululemon, a lounge with Montauk Juice Factory, floral arranging with The Flower Shop, off-the-bike classes with SoulCycle instructors, and live music every Friday night. “SoulCycle and Lululemon strive to provide unforgettable moments for our guests,” says Lululemon Hub Seventeen curator Carolina Amorim. “We’re excited to create this magical space to live out their sweaty, fun, and happy summer moments.” 264 Butter Lane, Bridgehampton, 631-537-3630; soul-cycle.com/belowthebarn

“AIX-EN-PROVENCE IS BIG ENOUGH TO BE COSMOPOLITAN BUT SMALL ENOUGH TO FEEL WELCOMING.” —shirin von wulffen

PURELY PROVENÇAL BEAUTY ENTREPRENEUR SHIRIN VON WULFFEN SPILLS ON HER DELIGHTFUL, UNIQUELY FRENCH LINE.

Aix-en-Provence, in the South of France, is just big enough to be cosmopolitan but small enough to feel calm and welcoming, says Shirin von Wulffen, fashion publicist turned beauty entrepreneur. The city also happens to be the hometown of her husband, legendary hairstylist Frédéric Fekkai. After spending summers there, the pair decided to create Bastide, an all-natural, nontoxic body, fragrance, and candle collection made in Provence. How did Aix-en-Provence inspire Bastide? Aix has been a discovery for me. It’s a simple place but at the same time refined. The way we live there is unique. We’re eating really great foods. Either you grow it in your own garden or you go to the market—everything is in season. The fruits taste like candy. I grew up in the States, and there are no markets of this quality here. Every day you decide what you’re going to

84  HAMPTONS-MAGAZINE.COM

eat based on what’s available. We said, “Why can’t it be the same for our skin? Curated, natural, and well-made.” How does the collection channel that lifestyle? Just as we don’t know what food is seasonal anymore, it’s the same idea with our body products. We’re used to soaps that make the skin feel tight. Bastide soap might feel more liquid than people are used to because of how it’s made. It’s olive oil-based and made by local artisans in a traditional process—all of our products are. What are your favorites for summer? I love our Marais Salants Camargue Bath Salts. They come from a region known for its salt mines and smell like blood orange. The Huile Seche Epatante Dry Oil Mist is amazing for moisturizing after the sun. Figue, 55 Main St., East Hampton, 631-527-5111; figue.com; bastide.com

LASTFIRST

VERA DE NERO

We often think of the projects more in terms of private, personal, luxurious resorts than we do as houses. This is a respite as such, the issues that inform the design are very different from those of a primary residence. We want our clients to arrive, relax and recharge.

LastFirst is NYC’s premiere bespoke matchmaking club. Founded by industry veteran Emily Holmes Hahn, LastFirst’s proactive and boutique approach has quickly begun to change the modern dating game both in the City and out East. Offering a refreshingly personalized experience, LastFirst’s mission is to send its members on their last first date.

VERA DE NERO is a luxury atelier founded in 2009. The “secret” to the quality and prestige associated with VERA DE NERO garments mainly lies in a unique selection of raw materials that work in harmony with our high standards of craftsmanship, technological manufacturing approach, and modern design.

SHELTER ISLAND

AYR BEACH HOUSE Offers Summer Staples at their Hamptons Outpost AYR, the digitally native women’s brand best known for their cult-like following in denim and outerwear, opened their Hamptons outpost, AYR Beach House, for the summer season — offering coveted summer items, and hard to find brands in their Sag Harbor village shop. AYR, which stands for All Year Round, makes elevated essentials for women, coveted in all categories. In addition to super soft jeans, easy luxe layers, light linen tops, and gorgeous silk dresses, AYR Beach House carries a few of their favorite brands exclusive to the Hamptons — including Australian minimalist swimwear brand Matteau, home objects by Stillhouse, artwork by Uprise Art, beach bags & totes by KariCat, and hand-dyed indigo cashmere scarves from Point Dume. “We were excited to explore what AYR might look like #outofoffice,” AYR’s Co-Founder and CEO Maggie Winter states. “AYR Beach House seemed like a fun way to bring the brand we love to a place we love.” Designed by Matt Bindner & Eliot Pepe of BSP, with custom fixtures by local fabricator Nick Cohen, decorated with art from Uprise, AYR Beach House captures the beachy vibes of Sag Harbor with a modern twist. Marble waterfall tables and dreamy sand filled boxes fill the sunny space full of summer’s perfect staples. “We wanted to offer a range of pieces that are core to our DNA and also a mix of items that capture a beach town sensibility. Our textiles are focused on lightweight gauzy qualities that are not

high maintenance, the pieces themselves are easy to style and versatile by nature,” says Jac Cameron, AYR’s Creative Director. AYR keeps it fresh by delivering new product weekly and hosting friends of the brand every weekend (some highlights of which include Parachute Home, Krewe sunnies, stripes by Kule and fine jewelry from Finn). AYR is constantly evolving to meet the consumer where they are, addressing the industry-wide recognition that the world is going digital while redefining the concept of direct to consumer. Opening their first shop in Soho last year, AYR Soho stocks essentials in addition to limited issue and exclusive pieces not available on the site – launching new products weekly. “I grew up in this community and have watched retail change the landscape of our town. I wanted to bring our brand to life here in a way that is inclusive of the local community, celebrating the style and magic of the East End, while providing a product that is unique and exclusive, and can’t be found everywhere. We incorporated both Hamptons style and community, while staying true to our brand’s native New York identity. AYR is the perfect mix of city and beach vibes, and our girl can now find something to wear in both places,” says AYR’s Co-Founder, Max Bonbrest. AYR Beach House is open daily 10am7pm, through the end of September. Be sure to check it out! 25 Madison Street, Sag Harbor beach@ayr.com, 631.808.3751
