From the renewal of a closed glass factory in Guatemala to the machine-less ceramic workshop in Tunisia, each product is designed to sustain both artisans and the environment. Sobremesa by Greenheart, a division of Greenheart International, is based on Greenheart’s social and environmental initiative for global change. After years of retail experience, we realized there was a need for sustainable tableware that supports artisans with both a fair wage and healthy working conditions.

Jallpa Nina Though based out of Lima, Peru, the Jallpa Nina workshop is located in the valley of Lurin known for the ancient site of the Pachacamac temple. The Incan heritage of Peru informs the hand painted and handmade glazes used in the crafting of the stoneware pieces. Jallpa Nina works with craftsmen from across Peru to give their ancestral techniques new life and to assist them in achieving financial stability and growth.

COPAVIC The cooperative, COPAVIC, formed in 1976 when seventeen artisans came together and reopened a former glass factory in Cantel, Guatemala. These artisans crush, then melt down broken, discarded glass, and hand blow the molten fragments into new recycled pieces. Not only does COPAVIC protect and renew their environment with recycled glass, they revitalized their community with living wages, insurance, and skills that continue to serve artisans beyond COPAVIC’s kiln-lined walls.

Artesanos De San Pedro In a small town outside of Antigua, Guatemala, the Artesanos de San Pedro have created a workshop dedicated to the sustainable production of cutting boards and wine toppers. Incorporating modern techniques with traditional handcrafted quality, these artisans cut, smooth, and shape each piece of teakwood into a unique piece for the table.

Cuchareros In San Lucas Toliman, Guatemala a small coop of “spoonmakers”, Los Cuchareros, produce wooden utensils. Each piece begins life in the humid forest surrounding Lake Atitlan where these artisans collect coffee, jobillo, and tasisco wood. With machetes they scrape and carve spoons and knives of varying sizes. Any rough edges are smoothed and then rubbed with beeswax before the utensils are finally placed over a fire to bring out the natural beauty of the wood. Cuchareros take special care to preserve their surroundings, using only certified wood sources beyond that which they collect themselves. A portion of their proceeds goes toward community programs, such as services for the elderly.

Community Friendly Movement The Community Friendly Movement began in New Dehli, India, but its widespread reach now includes over 650 artisans from over 250 villages. In the village of Sanganer, near Jaipur, a community of artisans dedicated to screen printing carves their blocks and then presses the bold patterns to their handwoven textiles. Through their support of artisans, the CFM develops role models, focusing on women, who not only support their families, but replicate their success throughout India, building a larger ecosystem of fair trade communities.

El Tun Four brothers in Antigua, Guatemala started El Tun twenty-five years ago to preserve and share their traditional methods of weaving. They inherited a rich history of passion and quality which is spun into each fiber on their looms, powered by nothing more than the pulse of their feet. It’s from the very beat of their foot on the treadle that these four brothers took their name. El Tun references the traditional drum found throughout Guatemala. The steady beat of their work preserves both tradition and their environment by forgoing machinery.

Allpa Begun in 1986 in Lima, Peru, the founders of Allpa envisioned an organization dedicated to finding artisans and sharing their talents with the world. New Accounts: To become a Sobremesa customer, please fax or e-mail a copy of your Resale Certificate, sales tax license, or completed exemption certificate to Sobremesa along with your initial order.

Orders: All new accounts require a $350 minimum opening order. Re-orders require a minimum order of $100. If minimum order cannot be reached, a fee of $25.00 will be applied to the order. All items must be ordered in the case pack quantities listed on price sheet. Confirmed orders will ship as ready unless otherwise specified. It is the customers’ responsibility to notify Sobremesa if they would like to make any changes to their order prior to shipment. Failure to notify Sobremesa of any desired changes to the confirmed order prior to shipping resulting in the refusal of the shipment will incur a 20% restocking fee. ALL SALES ARE FINAL. Pricing: The wholesale prices on this pricelist apply to stocking retailers only. Prices are subject to change without notice. Items are billed at the prices in effect at time of shipping.

Credit Terms: All accounts require pre-payment and are not eligible for credit terms.

Payment: All orders must be pre-paid. Sobremesa accepts all major credit cards as well as company checks. COD’s are not accepted.

When pre-paying via company check, please contact Sobremesa for estimated shipping charges. Orders with a declined credit card will be put on hold and you will be contacted for alternate payment.

Backorders: When placing an order, please indicate whether or not you accept backorders. Backorders will ship as they become ready unless you indicate otherwise. If backordered items are not available to ship within 120 days, backorders will be cancelled. Only backorders over $25 will be processed and shipped. Backorders under $25 will be cancelled. Standard shipping will be charged for all backorders.

Shipping: FOB point is Chicago, IL. Standard shipping rates will apply to all orders. Special routing information must be specified at the time an order is placed, or Sobremesa will ship at its own discretion. All back orders over $25 will be charged actual shipping costs. Freight carrier is subject to change without notice.

Damages/Shortages: Damages or shortages must be reported within five (5) business days of receipt of goods in order for a claim to be honored.

Claims for damaged products will be honored only if the original packaging is retained for inspection and images of damaged items are sent to Sobremesa via e-mail. Once images are reviewed by Sobremesa, a credit or replacement will be sent. Due to the use of natural materials and the handcrafted nature of our products, slight variations in finishes, tones, size, and/or color can occur and are not considered flaws. These variations are not grounds for a return, exchange, or credit.

Order Cancellation/Changes: Changes to orders will only be accepted before the order has been formally processed and packed for shipping. Order cancellations must be received in writing prior to shipment.

Rush Orders: We will happily expedite your order upon request. However, requested rush orders will include a $25.00 rush fee. Rush orders must be received in before 11:00AM CST.

By purchasing items from Fair Trade organizations, communities are improved; nutritional needs met; the poor, especially women, are empowered; and the environmental impact of production is minimized. This is possible because Fair Trade approaches development as a holistic process.
