Sentier – a name that is synonymous with the primordial Italy that we have all come to love so much and an Italy that has built itself the reputation of la dolce vita, magnificent designs not to mention top-notch quality. To this day the town of Montebelluna remains the heart of where the handcrafted Sentier footwear is manufactured. It is where it all began. Not only the success story of Sentier, but the love story between Nicola and Roberta Segantin that it represents – culminating in the white hiking boot that is currently trending.

When the two first met, she fell in love with two things – him and his shoes. With a bit of research, Roberta was able to track down the manufacturer and with considerable persuasion Nicola’s original shoes dating from the first half of the twentieth century were reborn! Ever since, the fireman has been at his wife’s side in her endeavour to expose the Sentier brand to the world. It all began with Marinotti, the leading fashion store in Cortina d‘Ampezzo, their journey through Italy then making inroads into the United States, Finland, Austria and Switzerland. With the new online platform, today buyers anywhere in the world get to customise their shoes, even personalise them with their signature.

What then remains to be done is the handcrafting itself – unquestionably 100% made in Italy. The footwear is welted; vegetable-tanned leather is used both on the outside and inside; while every Sentier shoe has to be furnished with the original iconic Vibram Diamant sole profile. Sentier’s latest scoop is a white hiking boot which came about by chance. Marinotti had on display a specially designated area ‘Unconventional Bride’ that needed a white ‘pedula’ or hiking boot. “I would never have thought of creating a white hiking boot,” was Roberta’s surprised reaction. In the meantime it has become the frontrunner of the 2019/20 winter season. “Suddenly everyone is into white footwear!”
