Playing repertoire from Debussy to Duke Ellington, and with a stage presence eliciting whoops from the audience, this Frenchman has style to burn, along with technique and artistry infusing his classical playing with the freedom and spirit of jazz. Like a fine wine, this venerable quartet, founded in 1946, keeps getting better. Featured in this program is 91-year-old pianist Menahem Pressler, who continues to perform to great critical acclaim while maintaining an active teaching career. Youth and maturity meet in a program that includes a quartet written by a then-63-year-old Leos Janácek while embroiled in a doomed love affair with a woman 37 years his junior, to whom he sent 700 “intimate letters.”

Also on the program, the beloved Water Music, composed for King George I, which was premiered on a barge in the River Thames.

SANTA ROSA SYMPHONY The Santa Rosa Symphony — resident orchestra at the Green Music Center— celebrates its 88th season in 2015-16. Music Director/Conductor Bruno Ferrandis is in his 10th year of delivering musical inspiration to the North Bay community.

Each year, Sonoma State University’s Department of Music presents more than 100 performances for approximately 9,000 audience members. Outreach initiatives, festivals and invitationals annually bring an additional 2,500 secondary school students, teachers and guests to the campus.

These districts currently include: Santa Rosa City Schools, Waldorf Schools, West Sonoma County Union High School District and the Cotati Rohnert Park Unified School District.
