The Model United Nations (MUN) Club will attend McGill University's Model United Nations Assembly (McMUN) which will take place in Montreal, Canada, on January 26th-29th. Over the last twenty years, McMUN has become one of the premier university-level MUN conferences in North America and has earned a staple placement on the collegiate model UN circuit. Attracting approximately 1,400 delegates from diverse locations, McMUN employs a conference team of over 350 McGill University students to run twenty-six committee simulations. This conference is a great opportunity for students at GFA to deepen their knowledge about international affairs and to improve their public speaking skills. We would leave on Thursday (1/26) at 7am and we would return on Sunday (1/29) around 9-10pm. We will charter a bus to take us there and back and we will stay at the Sheraton hotel, where the conference will take place.~
Prerequisites: Priority will be given to students who have attended MUN conferences in the past and who are active members in the MUN club.
Germany (2010, 2012)
GFA's Model United Nations Club has traveled to Berlin to be part of the their Annual Berlin Model United Nations Conference (BERMUN). This conference provided an authentic simulation of the United Nations and a chance for students to interact with more than 700 people from around the world. Each year GFA students represent a different country. In 2010 we represented the Republic of Colombia, in 2012 we represented Greece. For every conference Nations must come together and engage each other through diplomacy to develop feasible strategies that can reduce illicit trade. Before students arrived in Berlin, they spent many hours learning about illicit trade and practicing their debate skills. Some of them took the International Relations course as part of the World Perspectives program at GFA. Therefore, they had the chance to apply what they learned in the classroom and to deepen their understanding of the complexity of tackling global problems. They also had a chance to explore the historic city of Berlin, visiting landmarks like the Reichstag, the Brandenburg Gate, Checkpoint Charlie and what’s left of the Berlin Wall. Prerequisites: Students must be active members of GFA's MUN Club and they must attend one MUN conference in the US prior to going to Berlin.
