Boutique Hotel to Open in St. Paul’s Exchange Building

Rebound Hospitality’s Celeste St. Paul Hotel + Bar, formerly St. Agatha’s Conservatory of Music and Art, is slated to open in late 2019.

St. Agatha’s Conservatory of Music and Art/Exchange Building in St. Paul was built between 1908 and 1910. It was originally established by the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1884, well before the construction of what is now known as the Exchange Building. It served as a convent for the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet and closed in 1962. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989 in recognition of the school’s unique role in “the history of women and of women’s religious organizations in the United States,” according to the Ramsey County Historical Society. The conservatory was the first fine arts school in Minnesota. celestestpaul.com

Asha Hassan Receives Meet Minneapolis’ Hospitality Hero Award

Asha Hassan, housekeeper at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Minneapolis-Downtown (Convention Center), was awarded the Hospitality Hero award for the third quarter of 2018 by Meet Minneapolis, Convention and Visitors Association.

Nominated by Director of Sales Esta Goodman, Hassan embodies “Minnesota nice” through her dedication to her job. Recently, Hassan found a suitcase in a vacant guest room she was cleaning that contained several thousand dollars and ensured a safe return to the guest.

Hassan has been with Holiday Inn Express & Suites since 2000. As a refugee, she spoke little English; now she is fluent in the language and takes great pride in being a Minnesotan as well as an American citizen, which carries over into her work.

“Her work sets the bar high as a golden standard of Minneapolis hospitality,” says Goodman. “Asha’s 18 years of dedication, diligence and pride in her work exemplify her as a Hospitality Hero that Minneapolis should be proud of. We sure are!”

VENUE NEWS » NEW F&B PROVIDER AT EDINBURGH USA

D’Amico & Partners has been selected to manage food and event services at the Edinburgh USA golf course starting in 2019. The Brooklyn Park Economic Development Authority, which owns the clubhouse, approved this new service agreement with D’Amico & Partners after a competitive selection process, and plans to invest $1.5 million in clubhouse renovations.

“When selecting a restaurant group to partner with at Edinburgh, we were impressed by D’Amico’s vision for the property,” says Kim Berggren, executive director of the Brooklyn Park Economic Development Authority. “Their creative vision never disappoints and we can’t wait to see the transformations that will take place at Edinburgh.

With D’Amico leading the design of the renovations, the clubhouse restaurant, Girvan Grille, will be transformed into The Brooklyn, which is slated to open in early spring. “The menu will feature classic, comforting American dishes, elevated with fresh, contemporary touches and locally sourced ingredients. With a curated selection of wine, beer and craft cocktails, the beverage program will be unlike any other in the northwest metro,” says Richard D’Amico, co-founder and design visionary, D’Amico & Partners.

The clubhouse entry space and banquet rooms will also be renovated, and the wedding accommodations will be upgraded. “This will be the most significant upgrade of club facilities since the original restaurant space was added to the clubhouse in 1991,” says Berggren.

In addition to managing the restaurant operations, events at Edinburgh will be managed by D’Amico & Partners’ catering operation, D’Amico Catering. D’Amico will also manage the St. Andrews Club and all nongolf operations.
