Apr/May 2014 Calendar of Events National Poetry Month p. 5 Friends Used Book Sale p. 8 Summer Reading Kickoff p. 15
Dear Reader,
Apr/May 2014
We look forward to your joining us during April and May for some great programs and fun events! Board of Trustees
Working closely with the Greenville County Human Relations Commission, we will host Smart Money Saturday on March 29 at the Hughes Main Library. During this financial fair, participants will learn about topics such as credit basics, finances for the family, and how to set goals and track progress. The Friends of the Greenville County Library System spring sale at the Merovan Center, April 25-27, promises to fill your bags and boxes with lots of books at bargain prices. April is National Poetry Month and the Peace Center for the Performing Arts Poet-in-Residence, Glenis Redmond, is among those poets who will be visiting with us. We kick off Summer Reading May 30 at all library locations. At the Main Library, there will be special entertainment along with a new event—a children's book sale sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Have a great spring!

Though a Bookmobile stop is located just two miles from Jane Woods' house, the free library system service is not just a convenience. Jane has been visiting the Bookmobile for over 35 years and “they’re like family,” she says.
fountaininn@greenvillelibrary.org
Jane had been driving 12 miles to get to her nearest library location, so she was happy to learn about the Bookmobile from her mother-in-law who used the service faithfully herself. Jane and her husband would rather read than watch TV, so when Bookmobile staff show up with a new book , they are not only providing Jane with entertainment but saving her money too.
505 Pennsylvania Avenue, Greer 29650
Library staff members bring Jane books, movies and audiobooks—those that she has requested as well as those they just know she will enjoy. “Dawn, Diane and Judy, when they come out, they know their patrons, know what we read, and know what we like.” The Bookmobile has been making rounds throughout the county for over 90 years. The first Greenville bookmobile began service on October 10, 1923 and was known affectionately as the “Library Truck.” Today, the Bookmobile has stops at 11 locations throughout northern and southern Greenville County where patrons check out books, dvds, audiobooks, CDs and magazines. “The Bookmobile is one of the best kept secrets the library has.” Jane says. If you want to find out more, just ask a staff member at any library system location or visit greenvillelibrary.org. How has the library changed your life?
