Dear Reader, I invite you to block out time on your calendars for some fun-filled learning opportunities during October and November, brought to you by your Greenville County Library System. October is National Fire Safety Month and getting to meet local firefighters and their firetrucks is always an exciting experience for the little ones. If that’s not enough of a thrill, how about the chance to hang out with one of my favorite characters, Pete the Cat? The always popular Greenville Symphony Lollipops concerts delight and entertain all family members. We’re excited to be working with The International Ballet for the first time as they present a special story time based on The Nutcracker. Teens and adults alike can enjoy an evening with Edgar Allen Poe presented by Larry Bounds. Follow that program up the next night with a performance by Valentine Wolfe, playing Victorian chamber metal music devoted to the mysterious afterlife of Edgar Allan Poe. We are grateful to the Master Gardeners for sharing their expertise on such topics as bulbs, permaculture design and winter gardening. To get the true story behind Mister Owita’s Guide to Gardening, come hear Richard Wall. In celebration of National Novel Writing Month, we have a series of programs that can put you on the fast track if you’re ready to become an author. Oh, and don’t forget the Friends of the Library ginormous used book sale Oct. 23-25. What a great place to start your holiday shopping! Enjoy the autumn leaves,

Beverly James Executive Director
