Oct/Nov 2014 Newsletter Making It! @ Your Library • p. 3 Friends Used Book Sale • p.4 Michael Levine Concert • p. 8

Dear Reader, What’s your favorite time of year? Mine is fall and the cover photo of this newsletter reminds me of when I was younger and how much fun it was to scuffle through the piles of leaves I had just finished helping to rake. Even today when I see a pile of leaves, I feel the urge to run through them. Another hankering I get this time of year is to visit the Friends of the Greenville County Library System Used Book Sale during the last weekend in October. I always enjoy browsing through the humongous quantity of donated like-new books at bargain-basement prices. Why not get a head start on your holiday shopping?! You’re sure to find something for almost everyone on your list. Get all the sale details on page 4 and sign up to become a member of the Friends of the Library if you haven’t already. As a member of the Friends, you get early access to the semiannual sale on Friends Only Friday as well as receiving a 10% discount on purchases from the Friends Shop at the Hughes Main Library. We will also mail this newsletter to your home or office. Best of all, your Friends membership helps underwrite the cost of many special programs offered throughout the Library System. For example, the performances of Porkchop Productions’ Holly and the Christmas Gift in early December are underwritten by the Friends of the Library. Thanks for your support,

Beverly James Executive Director

The library system is excited to be the recipient of a Library Services and Technology Act grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, administered by the South Carolina State Library. This grant supports our existing STEM based programming for children and tweens like “Science Station” and “In BeTween” crafts as well as those that we bring to county community centers. This grant also supports the creation of Making It! kits that contain a variety of stimulating materials that teach concepts about robotics, life science, conductivity and more.
