PRACTICALITY Truly no-limits exploring The liberating thing about an inflatable stand-up paddleboard is how portable it is – it can go practically everywhere with you. You don’t need a van or a roof rack to take it on a road trip, or even a large space to store it at home. All of our boards can be rolled up to fit into their own compact bag (see page 36) that can be carried on your back, or rolled behind you thanks to specially integrated wheels. You can literally walk to the water’s edge, unpack the board and inflate it in roughly five minutes using our Titan Pump (see pages 34-35). Thanks to its special design, this pump halves the time it takes to fill boards using a conventional pump while using less energy - it also fits into the backpack with the board so it’s easy as pie to transport. Three-piece collapsible paddles are also available (see pages 32-33), and complete the perfect adventure pack. 0 2 - 0 3 re d p a d d l e co . co m

INNOVATION Never-ending development Each year is an opportunity for us to enhance our boards. Wherever possible, we try to improve certain elements and integrate new technology. In 2016 we revolutionised the inflatable paddleboard market by introducing MSL fusion technology (see pages 04-05) – which is the most advanced construction method available. MSL has been combined with our patented RSS stiffening system (see page 06) to ensure our expert boards maintain their shape in every situation, while retaining the same incredible manoeuvrability. This year our boards also feature a new base developed in partnership with Ram Mounts to fit all sorts of accessories including fishing rods and cameras (see page 39). Of course, innovation doesn’t trump quality so we carry out rigorous tests to ensure that all of our products meet high standards. We even ran over a board with a tractor once - it was fine!

PERFORMANCE A truly authentic experience The unrivalled practicality of inflatable boards would be pointless if they didn’t perform to the highest standards. Here at Red Paddle Co we pride ourselves on using the best technology available to design unique features that put our boards on a level with hard boards in terms of performance (see pages 04-06). We’re not just adding inflatable boards to a range of hard boards - we only make inflatable boards and have done so since 2008. Over this time we’ve developed our products and established a broad number of new board families, so we can cater for all levels – from beginners to experts – as well as offering models for different specialities such as windsurfing, yoga and racing (see pages 08-31). All of the team at Red Paddle Co live, eat and sleep SUP, and that’s why we’re the only brand that can promise an authentic experience - paddleboards made by paddleboarders.

In 2016 we became the first inflatable SUP manufacturer to use MSL fusion technology, which stands for Monocoque Structural Laminate. It involves an industrial process that fuses the second layer of hard-wearing polymer to the dropstitch core at the raw material stage. MSL reduces hand-gluing errors and the amount of glue we use, which saves 2kg in weight. It also delivers greater stiffness at lower pressures – we recommend inflating our boards to 18-22psi for ultimate performance. By adding MSL to our TecAir manufacturing process it makes all of our boards stiffer, more durable and better performing. When you combine this with our patented RSS stiffening system (see page 06), you have inflatable boards that deliver the world’s most authentic stand-up paddleboard experience.

UNDER THE MICROSCOPE MSL fusion composite and airtight coating MSL involves fusing a second layer of hard-wearing polymer to the dropstitch core at the raw material stage, removing hand gluing errors. The high-tech industrial process also saves almost 2kg in weight and makes the boards stiffer at lower pressures.

Deckpad Stand-up paddleboards have foam pads glued to the deck. Ours are machine pressed at 170psi to ensure a perfect bond.

Thermosealed crocodile deckpad The grippy ‘crocodile’ finish to our deckpads helps you grip them with your feet. This means you can generate traction and control your board more easily. The colour is locked in.

Premium-grade inflation valve Because it’s the only place air can get in or out of your board, the valve has to be manufactured to exacting standards. Our valves are super strong and create an air- and water-tight seal.

SUPER reinforced dropstitch The secret behind the stiffness of our boards is the dropstitch system. It provides a high-tensile, rigid core that can withstand pressure beyond 20psi.

W H AT A R E COSMETIC FINISH All 2017 Red Paddle Co boards now have an industry-leading cosmetic finish with fewer wrinkles and blemishes. The boards look cleaner and smoother and even feel better to the touch.

Second layer rail tape The final layer is the rail tape, which creates the seal on the quadruple layer rail. These are also coloured according to which Red Paddle Co family they belong to.

Heat seam Our high-pressure laminated, heat-pressed seam creates an airtight, waterproof seal that can withstand anything you can throw at it.

WEIGHT SAVING Red Paddle Co boards are up to 2kg lighter than previous versions. But, importantly, they are not too light. If a board is ultra light it’s more affected by wind and currents on the water.

O F

M S L?

LOWER PRESSURES All Red Paddle boards now benefit from extra torsional stiffness, so they remain stiffer at lower pressures. We recommend a pressure of between 18-20psi. Less pumping more paddling.

DURABILITY The multiple-layer coating of Red Paddle boards is tough and durable. Thermosealed deckpads also keep their colour better than screenprinted alternatives that fade quite quickly.

It’s unique to Red Paddle Co – we designed and patented it to make some of our bigger, expert boards even stiffer to deliver greater performance. It works by slotting two stiffening battens into pockets that are individually laminated onto the side of the board. We’ve proved this makes the board up to 40 per cent stiffer. RSS also features on our 100mm/3.93” boards (excluding 9’4”) to bring them up to the same stiffness as our 120mm/4.72” boards, while maintaining the same manoeuvrability. RSS battens come with cords to make them easier to remove – these are now held in place by a special velcro tab.

ON THE FLIPSIDE MOULDED FINS Most boards in the Red Paddle Co range come with built-in fins - the high-performance iFin system. With moulded fins you don’t need any tools, replacements or spares. They are specially designed to be ultra-durable and easy to pack away for transport. If ever they bend out of shape during storage or use, it is extremely easy to set right. Simply pour hot water over the fins and reshape them by hand. US BOX FINS US Box Fins originated in the surfing world where they are widely trusted to do a good job. A number of Red Paddle Co boards boast them, including all of the Race Family as well as the Windsup. We use several different types of fin depending on the board. These fins are inserted after inflation and simply attached using a simple nut and bolt system. The fins are specially engineered to slice through the water. FCS CONNECT FINS For 2017 we have collaborated with FCS, the world-leading surfboard fin creators. Now our Explorer, Sport and Whip boards all feature FCS Connect Fins that simply slot in by hand, taking mere seconds to fit. They have a specially designed wear-resistant barrel and corrosionresistant titanium pin mechanism incorporated into their base. The rest of the fin is also extremely durable and resistant.

HOW TO SPEAK SUP Cargo loop A special deck attachment that connects the tie-downs. Deckpad The foam layer glued to the top of a board for grip and traction. Drift When a board slides laterally across the water’s surface. Minimised by fins and runners. Fin A moulded foil attached to the underside of a board to give the rider extra control. Glide Term describing how smoothly a board runs over the water – ‘The glide on this board is great.’ Nose The front end of a board. Rail The edge of a board. Thicker rails give greater stability. Rocker The curve in a board from nose to tail. Flat rocker for speed; more rocker for manoeuvrability.

Runner A straight, plastic insert on a board that helps prevent drift. Tail The back end of a board. Tie-down An elasticated cord running across the deck for holding objects (eg a dry bag), in place. SUP Abbreviation of stand-up paddleboarding. Refers to both the sport and the board. Swell A big ripple in the water caused by storms at sea. As this ripple comes towards shore, it breaks (caused by an underwater sandbank), creating waves. Volume The volume of a paddleboard (air capacity in an inflatable) is a useful indicator of its size and rider suitability.

All-Round Our Ride collection of boards is our most popular range, and has been designed for use across a wide range of conditions by all kinds of paddlers. The shorter models are better suited to surf conditions, while the longer, wider models are aimed at the bigger paddler or at families.

Touring If you are looking for that step up in performance, or want to head off on your next multi-day trip, then our range of touring and exploring boards are for you. They’re super-stiff and stable, making them perfect for carrying camping gear, with a profiled nose for high-speed cruising.

Surf Surfing a SUP is great fun, and because you have a paddle for propulsion and balance, it’s a neat way to get into the sport. Our surf SUPs are short with a wider nose and narrow tail – perfect for catching the swell. They also feature our RSS stiffening system for increased manoeuvrability.

Windsup Windsurfing can be an intimidating sport for beginners, and that’s a real shame because the rewards are so great. So we have come up with a brilliant solution - a Red Paddle Co Windsup combines the best of both worlds by offering a sail when the wind is up and a paddleboard when it stops.

FLOW

Race SUP racing is growing in popularity, so we’ve developed a series of boards with speed and agility in mind. They’re longer and thinner than a regular paddleboard, with a drawn-in nose and tail to give fast glide and ride. These boards are also more rigid, combining the RSS and all-new FFC system.

Junior Stand-up paddleboarding is for everybody, not just the grown-ups, which is why we have designed a couple of boards with the younger paddler in mind. But despite their bright colours and zingy motifs, underneath they are just as loaded with technology as an adult board.

White Water This side of the sport is growing fast, so we’ve designed a board that can cope with the more extreme conditions found on a fast-moving river. The Flow’s sides are higher so it can break in and out of the heavy water flow, and the pronounced rocker means it rides out bumps comfortably.

Yoga Where better to escape for a few moments of mindfulness than the tranquillity of the water? This wide board was designed purely for those who want to practise their yoga or pilates while afloat – and, once you’ve finished your routine, you’ll find it still glides as beautifully as any other Red Paddle Co board.

The smallest of the Ride family is the 9’8” Ride, a board designed for all-round usage for lighter riders. You’ll get the best out of it if you’re under 70kg/155lb, but that doesn’t exclude heavier riders. In fact, for heavier riders, the 9’8” makes a great surf shape. Key to the Ride’s versatility are its dimensions. It’s 31”/787mm wide and 3.93”/100mm thick, which makes it a stable but manoeuvrable board. It’s a great board for beginners, but because it has been stiffened with our RSS battens (see page 6), it delivers a fantastic experience for more advanced riders, too. The 9’8” Ride also has cargo tie-downs on the front for a dry bag (see page 37). WHAT’S IN THE BOX Red Paddle Co backpack, Titan Pump, repair kit, RSS battens, water-resistant phone case

10’6’’ ride WHO’S IT FOR? Everyone – it’s the perfect all-rounder TEC AIR

If you could only ever have one Red Paddle Co board, the Ride 10’6” is the one we’d tell you to get – it’s already the world’s most popular inflatable SUP. Its popularity is down to its versatility. It’s designed to float and glide easily on flat water, and it has just the right amount of curve in the plan shape so it rides smoothly and predictably in surf, no matter what kind of rider you are. And it’s 4.7”/120mm thick, which increases stiffness while not affecting ride and performance. Cargo tie-downs complete an iconic package.

10’8’’ ride WHO’S IT FOR? Bigger riders and family paddlers TEC AIR

The Ride family is our most versatile, but we recognise that bigger riders often look for a board offering more stability, which is where the 10’8” Ride comes in. It has all the same qualities as the 9’8” and the 10’6”, but it’s two inches wider at 34”/863mm and has an extra 56 litres of volume, creating a more stable ride. It’s also 4.7”/120mm thick, which means you get greater stiffness at lower pressure. In fact, it’s more than 40 per cent stiffer than a standard 4”/100mm board at the same pressure. Another benefit of the 10’8” is that you can take a small passenger on the board more easily, too, which is why family paddlers often prefer it to the smaller Ride options. Inflatable SUPs are becoming more and more popular because of their versatility and practicality. We’ve taken those qualities and added another dimension – the option to turn your SUP into a windsurfer. With the 10’7” Ride Windsup, you get the world’s most popular inflatable SUP, only with the added benefit of being able to fit a sail for the days when the breeze is up. It has a mast foot built into the board (sail not included), and a removable US Box Fin system, giving it impressive tracking when in windsurfer mode. The 10’7” makes the perfect base for a windsurfer because it’s wide in the midpoint and has an extra wide tail, giving it great stability. And of course, pack away the sail, and it’s a straight-up SUP, too. Partner this board with a Red sail for the ultimate Windsup package. Windsurfing on an inflatable board isn’t a compromise - it’s a revelation. The 10’7” Ride Windsurf pulls off the feat of combining the benefits of an inflatable SUP with all of the technical elements of a windsurf board. Thanks to the Sure-Fin system, which is unique to Red Paddle Co, this board takes elements from traditional windsurfing and incorporates them in a modern way. A large drop-in daggerboard slots through the centre of the SUP adding unrivalled stability, increased tracking and more lateral control. That said, sharing a paddleboard with a group is rarely a serious affair, and it can sometimes end up being one long game of last man standing. If the 10’6” Ride is the family car of paddleboards, the Sport range is the sports car. The 11’0”, 11’3” and 12’6” Sport all offer a step up from the Ride family and have been designed for the more experienced paddler to deliver more speed and dynamic performance (although they’re not race boards - see page 26). The secret lies in their shape. They’re sleeker than a Ride, so they cut through the water more cleanly, and the drawnout nose section gives them more glide across the water. This year, we’ve made the Sport in three sizes. The 11’0” offers fast inflation and great flat-water performance for riders up to 90kg/198lb, the 11’3” is suited to a slightly larger rider, while the 12’6” is ideal for longer touring trips. 12’6’’ EXPLORER WHO’S IT FOR? An all-rounder for the 90kg/200lb+ paddler MSL

TEC AIR

Paddling is all about exploring and getting close to nature, and there’s no better family of boards for that than the Explorer range. Its increased thickness and capacity make it super-stiff and stable, so it’s perfect for taller, larger paddlers, and for longer outings in a range of conditions. We like to think of it as a ‘destination paddleboard’. The extra length means it can easily handle a kid on the front while you paddle, or if you’re going it alone, you can use the cargo tie-downs to take camping gear with you. Underneath, it has a removable fin, a nose runner fin to aid tracking in side winds, and two rear runner fins to cancel out ‘tail drift’ when the board is loaded with gear. Calling life’s adventurers... The 13’2” Explorer+ is the ultimate board for exploration, loaded with features and conceptualised with epic adventures in mind. With its high sides, large volume and narrower width, it’s a high-speed cruiser, designed for competent paddlers. It’s got cargo tie-downs front and back for all your gear (check out our dry bags on page 37), and under those are extra-grippy deck sections that help keep your cargo in place. Like the 12’6” Explorer, it has a removable fin, a nose runner fin to aid tracking in side winds, and two rear runner fins to cancel out ‘tail drift’ when the board is loaded with gear. Travelling round the world with a hard surf SUP isn’t easy. First of all, they’re huge and they don’t mix well with airports or planes. And there’s always the risk your board will get dinged in transit. Annoying. The solution is this, the 8’10” The Whip, a surf SUP you can throw in a bag and take all over the world as if it were any other backpack. Like every Red Paddle Co board, it’s extremely durable and has been tested to destruction (even after we drove over one of our boards in a tractor, it worked just fine), making it the perfect travel surf SUP. It’s got a narrow tail, a removable, adjustable fin and Red Paddle Co’s patented RSS batten system, which makes it super-stiff for maximum manoeuvrability. WHO’S IT FOR? Young SUP fans up to 60kg/132lb TEC AIR

Stand-up paddleboarding is for everybody, not just the grown-ups, which is why we make the 9’4” Snapper, a SUP for kids up to 60kg/132lb. It’s shorter and narrower than, say, the Ride family, which makes it easier for young riders to manoeuvre, whether on a river or catching the swell off a sandbar. We’ve given it a peppy design so it’s a board kids can call their own, but underneath it’s got all the quality signifiers you’d expect of a Red Paddle Co board: it’s made using the same Tec Air process as the rest of our range; passes through the same quality control checks; and comes in the same innovative backpack. In other words, it offers the authentic Red Paddle Co experience, just packaged for the next generation of paddlers. CENTRE FIN FOR FLAT WATER USE ONLY

If you’re in search of an adrenaline rush, there’s nothing to beat paddleboarding down a furious, foamy river. The Red Paddle Co 9’6” Flow is designed specifically for riders taking on the rapids. Based on input from experienced white water paddlers, we’ve given it a shape that offers extreme durability and extreme performance. Its high sides allow it to break in and out of the river flow, and it’s got a pronounced rocker so it rides out the bumps. It’s also got multiple grab handles for safety and control, and a quad-iFin set-up that means you don’t get the ‘double bump’ common to three-fin set-ups when you go over rocks. We’ve made those fins low-profile to avoid hang-ups in shallow sections, and because no two rivers are the same, we’ve designed them so they can be shaped to suit your riding style and the conditions.

People have always flocked to the water for its tranquillity, and to find space to relax and de-stress. Early on, we discovered people were taking their Red Paddle Co inflatable SUPs to the water for yoga, pilates and stretching, so we created a board specifically for them. The latest version of this is called the 10’8” Activ, a specially adapted version of our 10’8” Ride. That means it’s made using our Tec Air process, which makes it very rigid – and it’s also nice and wide, so perfect for yoga poses. The final touch is the EVA deck, which turns it into a full yoga pad. All that said, it’s not just a floating platform – like every board in the Ride family, it glides beautifully over water. COMPETITIVE EDGE The Race family of boards combines all of our technologies to give riders the upper hand in competition. You can find out more about each of our technologies below

Extra rigidity to triumph in extreme circumstances Forward Flex Control or FFC is a patented innovation FFC by Red Paddle Co that stiffens the front section of the board to remove the flex created in sprinting phases of a race. It also increases board speed to give you the competitive edge. The system is made up of a compression strut that works in combination with RSS to deliver a more rigid ride. It is attached during the inflation period and is very simple to set up.

Stiffer boards for better results Getting a good start in a SUP race is vital for success, but it’s also the moment where you put the most pressure on the board. RSS counters flex with two stiffening battens that are inserted into pockets on the sides of the board. On Elite boards these are combined with FFC to ensure the most rigid ride of any inflatable SUP on the market.

RSS

The most technologically advanced inflatable racing SUPs Racing SUPs is great fun and fantastic exercise, which is why the race scene is expanding rapidly. Many more paddlers are getting involved and swelling the ranks of local clubs, which are popping up in lots of new and exciting locations. SUP race meetings are also becoming much more frequent, and the general standard of paddling is getting far better. Previously, the biggest drawback of SUP racing was the size – and weight – of the boards, which made them difficult to transport and store. But thanks to advances in inflatable board technology such as the FFC rigidity system, Red Paddle Co can now make boards that rival anything else on the water, while retaining the transport and storage advantages of an inflatable. If you think you’re pretty handy with a paddle then there’s never been a better time to get involved. Not only is it a great way to keep fit while satisfying your competitive side and pitting your skills against others, but it’s also a fantastic opportunity to hang out with like-minded people and make new friends.

Fusion finish to save valuable weight It’s only in a competitive situation that the full value MSL of Red Paddle Co’s MSL fusion composite and airtight coating structure can be recognised. This industrial process reduces the amount of glue used to build a board, saving more than 2kg in weight. Not only does it make the board easier to carry but it also helps it fly over the water faster.

Flawless manufacturing process quality You don’t want to be let down by your equipment during a race, and that’s what makes Red Paddle Co’s Tec Air so special. It ensures that the boards are made with maximum durability and a minimum of flaws. Without this unique structure, most other inflatable boards bend out of shape and push through the water, rather than slicing through the swell.

On top of this, they can be packed away for easy transport and storage (see page 36) – and despite such excellent practicality, there’s no compromise when it comes to performance. 01

Give us a wave First of all, make sure your paddle is the right length. It should top out six inches above your head – roughly a hand’s breadth.

02

Stand up for yourself Stand with feet shoulder-width apart; put one hand on the t-grip and one on the shaft; look at the horizon; and keep your knees flexed.

03

Master strokes Place the paddle in the water at arm’s length and draw it back along the board, keeping your top hand and blade perpendicular.

04

A good turn To change direction, push water towards the tail on one side and the nose on the other. You’ll turn faster if the blade is away from the board.
