Property Along picturesque Heights Blvd. sits one of the most iconic buildings in Heights architectural history…Lambert Hall. Together, with the Heights Christian Church and Education wing, this property is nearly an acre of history on one city block. Built in 1927, Lambert Hall was originally a church and later became an event venue housing Opera in the Heights and other productions. With a nearly 300 person seating capacity consisting of orchestra and balcony levels, Lambert Hall is rich in history and design elements. Other features of Lambert Hall are the front lobby, dressing rooms, office space, restrooms and downstairs Fellowship Hall with kitchen and storage space. The new Church (1965) at the corner of Heights Boulevard/W.18th is a modern assembly for services featuring the two level sanctuary, lobby, offices, restrooms and storage rooms. The Education wing (1953) resides between the two buildings and consists of twelve studio/office spaces plus restrooms. Off street parking in two locations plus circular drop off in front of the Noah’s Ark playground. Contributing structures in the Houston Heights historic district. Please contact the Houston Architectural Historic Commission for additional information.
Neighborhood The Heights, a diverse small town community in the heart of Houston, was developed in the 1890s as a result of electrification of street car lines. With electrification, real estate developers could expand farther from city centers, so a group of midwestern investors banded together to purchase Houston’s street car system to ensure its extension to the Heights. The area became the city’s first large, planned community and existed separate from Houston until it was annexed in 1918. The Heights has much to offer its residents, including one of Houston’s grandest boulevards, celebrated architecture ranging from Texas Victorians to turn-of-the-century bungalows, acres of parks, antique stores and offbeat boutiques. In recent years, the area has seen a renewed vitality and interest in preserving the historic fiber of the community; as a result, attracting new residents and businesses.
