 

The entry period will begin at 12:00 (CEST) on Wednesday 25 May 2016 and will close at 12:00 (CEST) on Friday, 30 September 2016. Participants must submit their own video entries via their personal YouTube accounts, including the hashtag #WFD2016VideoContest in the title, but their entry will only be considered eligible when they submit the link through a form on the World Food Day Video Contest website www.fao.org/WFD2016-contest/video, including only the details requested. The length of the video should not exceed 1 minute. Each video submitted must reflect the theme for World Food Day 2016: ‘Climate is changing. Food and agriculture must too.’

Investigation & Preparation The theme of the 2016 World Food Day (and therefore the theme of your video) is

CLIMATE IS CHANGING. FOOD AND AGRICULTURE MUST TOO One of the biggest issues related to climate change is food security. The world’s poorest - many of whom are farmers, fishers and pastoralists - are being hit hardest by higher temperatures and an increasing frequency in weather-related disasters. At the same time, the global population is growing steadily and is expected to reach 9.6 billion by 2050. To meet such a heavy demand, agriculture and food systems will need to adapt to the adverse effects of climate change and become more resilient, productive and sustainable. This is the only way that we can ensure the wellbeing of ecosystems and rural populations and reduce emissions. Growing food in a sustainable way means adopting practices that produce more with less in the same area of land and use natural resources wisely. It also means reducing food losses before the final product or retail stage through a number of initiatives including better harvesting, storage, packing, transport, infrastructure, market mechanisms, as well as institutional and legal frameworks.

You will review and compare the work of a number of other video makers in order to help make sure that your own original video is as effective as possible. Investigation Extension Task Produce an extended research scrap book/journal that contains phrases, poetry, photographs, sketches, paintings, found items, song lyrics, etc. relating to the WFD theme

#Techniques, Skills & Knowledge Creative divergent thinking (having lots of ideas – even crazy ones!) After an initial introduction to the topic in class you could work in small groups to quickly produce mind maps of ideas that you might want to consider when planning, filming and editing your video. Further video, poster and image examples will be shown in class to inspire you. Creative Critical Collaboration: Sharing ideas, comments and helpful suggestions with your peers. This means that your own work and that of others can achieve the best possible result.

SGBIS Art and D&T: WFD 60 Second Video Project Testing your ideas extension task: Create a survey/questionnaire about your video and those of some of your friends and present your main findings graphically using ICT. You might use Survey Monkey to do this.

Use of a range of media: You can use a variety of media and techniques to produce your video including animation. This might be digital (Flash, After Effects etc), drawing, paint, collage, claymation, photo montage, etc. Be experimental! Working to a specific project brief in a short time frame Some Art and DT projects start with more personal, open and individual themes. However, this project is more like those given to a professional artist or designer. There are lots of possible ‘right answers’ to this project – but they must fit the brief and they absolutely must be completed on time (Submit your video to your teacher by 28th September. Upload it to YouTube by 30th September) Click here for a glossary to help you to understand Art & DT specific (special/unusual) words Poster extension task: Use computer aided design such as Photoshop, Corel Draw or Pixlr (online and free) to create a digital poster design for the project that relates to your own video. You might imagine it as the poster that advertises your video, or as a separate part of a large promotional campaign

Choosing the SGBIS entries for the online competition: You may submit your videos independently or with help from your Art and D&T teachers. Get your friends and family to watch and like your videos on YouTube (this could help you to win!)
