Branding and Web Design
Part One: Create the Branding & Identity for a business located in the beautiful rural setting of South Lakes.
The concept for the brief was to create an innovative logo and identity that focused on the surroundings and setting of Sunset Cottage (the branding would be mainly Stephen’s focus). The branding was then to be applied to a website that was professional and functional yet friendly, the web design and build was going to be more my focus in the collaboration.

Part Two: Develop a contemporary yet fitting website. The owner has specified she wants: administration rights/ ability to edit. The capabilities to upload high definition videos, and if possible a blog to keep customers up to date with their latest offers/ news.

Research
Research & Context
The research for this brief consisted of looking into existing websites that used Bootstrap. As this was something i was going to learn to build this site. Looking into the different structures and features of existing websites built on the framework allowed me to inform my design decisions as to what was possible to incorporate into the site. And once i had done this it was a matter of learning the different code to do it.

Part of the research also consisted of looking into the existing site to gain as much information about the business and to look at how the booking system worked so that i could see what i was working with in terms of incorporating this into the new website.

Development
Development
The development of the design of the site was quite a good process, as it allowed me to decide on the majority of the layout and then Stephen and I would discuss what we thought worked/didn’t work together and then tweak accordingly. The base layout of the website stayed the same throughout with just some little changes as you can see from the images.

One of the biggest parts of development was the header images it took a while for us to decide how we wanted the to appear and get them right. But the biggest part of the development for the brief was the development of the site, it involved me learning how to use a different type of coding language and there was a lot of ups and downs which made the build a lot longer due to learning as i went. There was also a lot to incorporate into the site and a lot of elements from elsewhere to work with.

Responsive Website
Outcomes
The website was to be kept professional, functional but friendly. I think this has been achieved and you can see that within this board. The site has a clear structure giving it the professionalism it needs, the navigation and menu also gives the site the structure and usability it needs to be used by a wide ranging audience.
OUGD603
The top header photographs give the site the friendliness it needs by the use of the copy applied over the stunning images of the cottage and surrounding areas. Also by taking the horizon element from the logo and using it as a full stop also gives an element of friendliness and playful nature.

Responsive Website
Outcomes
The above images show how the site works across mobile and tablet devices. This is where using the bootstrap framework really comes into its own, because the nature of the framework is that it is fully responsive and will change with any variation of the browser size, so the site is always at its best regardless of the screen size.
OUGD603
The main difference across the smaller screen sizes is that the navigation changes and shrinks down into a new navigation bar using just the logo and then the menu is hidden under the familiar hamburger icon. This gives a higher usability factor on the smaller screen sizes, but still retains an aesthetic quality in keeping with the rest of the website.

Branding & Identity
Outcomes
The branding and identity part of the brief needed to retain the friendliness that the clients pride themselves on but the printed stationery such as letterheads needed to me sightly more weighted to the formal and structured side to reflect the importance of these documents to customers.

The logo is applied in a variety of ways across the full identity, on the business cards it is embossed using a copper plate, this gives the more formal but also a quality feel to the cards adding to the professional needs of the item.
