RES News - Tutoring Team Education at Dr. Walter Cooper Academy, during the Pandemic… “Hybrid Learning” continues at our School. The students are there for in-person classes, two days a week (Monday & Tuesday), with remote learning on the other two days (Thursday & Friday). Remote learning presents challenges (keeping students awake, alert and engaged) but the amazing DWCA Faculty makes it happen and continues to problem solve with individual students and families, working to keep them connected.
RES Tutors are back on the job! We are continuing to conduct “Remote Tutoring” for Mrs. Sanzotta’s First Grade students, on Thursdays and Fridays, when the students are at their homes. Veteran RES Tutor Jim Koon reported recently, “My student and I had a very enjoyable and productive time together, today. He read two books and moved along through the sentence and word-ordering task, without difficulty.”
Typical tutoring instructions from Mrs. Sanzotta to our RES Tutors include… “I will have you working with two of my students. They are both super-sweet, and you will love working with them. I have attached a PDF document of a story for them to practice reading to you. I will also put a link in this email for an extra activity for you to use, if you would like. For this game, all you would do is click on the link to open it up in your browser, then share your screen for the student to see. The student will have a white board to write on. In the game, they would try to figure out the mystery short vowel word. Once they have written out their answer, all you would do is type it in on your computer, and then it will bring you to the next page. The kids love games like these!”
We have also been allowed to schedule tours of the newly renovated facility. These modern, twenty-first Century learning spaces offer new opportunities for helping our Cooper Scholars to learn faster and more completely. More tours will be offered, as time permits.
