SPEEDREADS Three-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Tony Stewart continued his tradition of lending a major hand to the Speedway Children’s Charities-Texas Chapter by hosting his annual “Smoke Show” Fantasy Camp on Wednesday at Texas Motor Speedway. Stewart, who has hosted his annual “Smoke Show” event since 2008, enjoyed the afternoon with 21 campers who came from eight different states (Texas, New York, Connecticut, Louisiana, California, Mississippi, Illinois, North Carolina) and Canada. The day-long event raised more than $119,000 for Speedway Children’s Charities and pushed the overall total generated by the “Smoke Show” to more than $1.7 million. Stewart, who announced last year that 2016 would be his final season in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, is not going to let his status as a Cup driver stop him from continuing the tradition of the “Smoke Show” for years to come. “We definitely want to keep this going,” Stewart said. “It’s been a great event and it’s raised a lot of money for the Texas Chapter. It’s something that I’m proud to be a part of and just because I’m not going to be a fulltime Cup driver any longer doesn’t mean I’m not going to do this.” Stewart, who missed the first eight races of the season recovering from injuries sustained from an off-season, all-terrain vehicle accident, qualified for the Chase for the Sprint Cup for the 10th time in his career after

winning at Sonoma. He was eliminated from championship contention after struggling through the Round of 16 in the Chase for the Sprint Cup. Now with just six races remaining in his decorated Sprint Cup Series career, including the AAA Texas 500 on Sunday, Nov. 6, at Texas Motor Speedway, Stewart is focused on going out on a high note. “I still wish we were in the middle of the Chase,” Stewart said. “The positive thing about not being in the Chase at this point is we can go have fun these last six weeks and do everything we can to win a race or as many as we can before it’s over.” A longtime fan favorite, Stewart made his retirement announcement last year so fans could get one more opportunity to see him race. For Stewart, that decision has paid off after hearing from the fans each week. “It’s been fun meeting people at the track each week saying that they came to the race because it was our last year,” Stewart said. “It validates why we did what we did with that decision.” While Stewart will be closing the chapter on his Cup career, he will not be ending his racing career. Stewart announced he is set to make his Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track debut next April during the Tony Stewart Presents the Texas Sprint Car Nationals featuring the American Sprint Car Series. The two-day event on April 7-8 is a new addition to the

SPEEDREADS O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 NASCAR doubleheader weekend. “I’m going to race more races next year than I am this year by probably 20 races,” Stewart said. “That’s one of the two I have confirmed on my schedule so far. I’m excited about it. It’s what I wanted to do anyway. I wanted to get back to dirt racing. They have a beautiful track over there so I can’t wait.”

Tony Stewart, who has always been a crowd favorite at TMS, will be running his last NASCAR Sprint Cup race at the track in the AAA Texas 500.
