Editor’s Letter
I CAN PREDICT HOW 2020 WILL TURN OUT FOR YOU... Modification: I can’t quite prophesize that you’ll meet a dashing dude in May or sip wine in Positano in October, but I can reveal if you’ll be happier in the New Year. How? Well, based on how you’ve spent the last 365 days. To know your future, go through the series of good-for-you habits ahead, and confirm if they are already a part of your life. The more yesses you reply with, the more fulfilled you will feel next year. And if you end up with several nays, that’s okay, because the sciencebacked pointers below can be put into action immediately, to ensure your year is
a wonderful one. Ready? Answer the following statements with a yes or no... 1. I Practice Gratitude Daily When you’re thankful for the good in your life, you feel more positive. Which makes people want to hang with you. Which means you’ll be less stressed and surrounded by more friends. 2. I’ve Taken Up a New Hobby Studies prove that people with hobbies tend to be happier and have lower heart rates. Plus, having a favourite pastime improves your thinking and problemsolving abilities. 3. I’ve Been Consistent With Exercise Those exercise-induced endorphins, they’ll give you a high without the hangover. Studies prove that regular exercise—even just once a week for 10 minutes—boosts mood and helps reduce symptoms of depression. 4. I’ve Become Nutrient Conscious Mom was right: a balanced meal really is the secret to a better life. When you eat healthier, you feel more energetic, mentally sharper, and your skin is glowier (a critical reason to smile, you’ll agree). 5. I Care Less About What People Think An approval addiction hurts your selfesteem. Sure, care about the opinions of those who truly matter, but not the judgements of strangers, acquaintances, that friend from high school, or randos on the Internet. 6. I’ve Let Go of Perfection Do have a desire to excel and do your best; don’t set unrealistic standards that will lead to feelings of inadequacy. 7. I’ve Been Giving Back
According to several studies, giving money or help makes us far happier than receiving. 8. I Have Fun Plans for April 2020 Scheduling joy or fun activities in the future means you’ll always have something to look forward to. 9. I Can Say No Without Guilt Your time is important, you can’t do it all. Saying no to things you don’t enjoy or don’t have the time for means you’re left with hours to focus on the important stuff. PS: according to science, people pleasers are more anxious than those who simply say no to events or opportunities they don’t want to indulge in. 10. I’m Not an Insta Addict An obsession with your newsfeed can make you depressed. Limit your social media time and when you do swipe, remember that not everything you see on your feed is real. While you’re at it, follow some motivational accounts to make your browsing work harder for you. 11. I’ve Ditched the Energy Vampires People who drain you, who make you feel bad about yourself, who hold you back from your true potential. This also includes unfollowing any accounts on social media, that make you feel bad about your life. Have a Happy New Year!

“How fab was The Art of Packaging?! While I had noticed the artwork on some of the beauty products I’ve used, I never gave much thought to the deeper meaning that lay behind the motifs. It was fascinating to read about the various reasons behind the different artworks. I’ll look at them with new-found profundity now. Show, Unbridled was another story I enjoyed. DIFFERENT REALITIES
“In Good Faith was a very interesting piece. We need more platforms like The Queer Muslim Project to normalise non-straight sexual orientations, and also to give those who feel marginalised within the community a place to belong to. ‘So, Who’s the Man in the Relationship?’ was another thoughtprovoking story we need more of. It’s disturbing to see how we tend to judge anyone who doesn’t’ conform to our idea of normal.” —Pavni Goel

IT‘S A BEAUTY-FUL WORLD!
“I haven’t’ been able to put down the Beauty Special issue! The stories were all so fun and so informative. Trending Now was my favourite. I loved all the scoop from the beauty world this season, and have already got down to trying some of the trends on myself! Sunset, Sunrise came a close second. UPFRONT BIG NEWS AND NEED-TO-KNOW INFO IN EASY BITES
TULLE COOL TO MISS Over the year, we have come to trust that Deepika Padukone will dish out a systematic dose of artistic expression. But she made her most noteworthy appearance yet at Cannes 2019, in a lime-green Giambattista Valli gown, complete with the outré hairband. This outfit unveiling was proof of Deepika’s transformation from sartorial neophyte to risk-taker, and even the haters had to agree—this arrival was one that simply couldn’t be ignored.

COSMO’S BEST-DRESSED LIST Meet the trendsetters—the celebrities (and the fabulous outfits they wore) that captivated our hearts in 2019. By Humra Afroz Khan
upfront COLOUR BLOCKING Shade-on-shade might just be our favourite trend of the decade...and certainly of 2019. Kareena Kapoor Khan made a strong case for pinks with reds, giving us other ideas of electric yellow with blue, deep oranges with fuschia, et al. Neutral-loving girls needn’t panic, though—play with blacks, browns, greys, and burgundys, with one vibrant hue thrown in via bag or shoes. You’re meant to stand out, so mix and match to your heart’s content...three colours at a time, tops, though.
LIVING IN TECHNICOLOUR Mundane is a word that does not exist in Ranveer Singh’s sartorial dictionary. Clearly. From a leopardprint suit with golden shoes to an all-red one with a beret, and all else that could typically be frowned-upon, Ranveer made headlines all year round for his louche, idiosyncratic choices, including many an (extra) extra) accessory. You won’t find us complaining!
IN PURSUIT OF THE (PERFECT) SUIT Dudes in suits—we’re such fans. But while a classic, black suit is always a winner, we do enjoy the occasional ‘statement suit’. Case in point: Shahid Kapoor, in this metallic number by Amit Aggarwal, who proves you can have a little fun with a signature silhouette. The rich suiting, accented with texture and twists, exemplifies ‘urban luxe’.
THE PANTSUIT QUEEN Ah, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja the ultimate arbiter of style... In 2019, we saw her take a shine to the pantsuit trend—and do a darn good job of it. The monochrome version seemed to be a favourite, and the result was mega glamour without a tryingtoo-hard vibe.
Katrina Kaif
Kiara Advani
MONOTONE There’s nothing more effective than head-to-toe colour, and it’s a trend doing the rounds on redcarpets everywhere. In 2019, there was plenty of inspiration, to help work this trend: think singlehued pantsuits, vivid jumpsuits, shaded co-ord sets. And the message was clear: it’s time to ditch a Morticia Addams wardrobe for one with pastels (lavender, light blue, et al) and bolder shades (maroons and browns, etc).
Shraddha Kapoor
upfront THE TUX BRIGADE All those in favour of the sexy tuxedo, say aye! Yep, thought so. Luckily, the suit’s fancier brother made many an appearance this year, bringing with it some unexpected personality additions, too. From the quintessential black dinner jacket, to white and blue, texture, and more, everything was a go.
Ananya Panday
Janhvi Kapoor Malaika Arora
OTHERS FROM THE CLASS OF 2019 From thigh-skimming minis and sweeping gowns to structured suits and concept saris—the year saw a mélange of great looks worth more than just a mention, dished out by these fabulous honorees. (Special shoutout to the ’Gram for making pre-event photoshoots a thing!). Thigh-high slits, bold shoulders, décolleté necklines in metallics, sheer, prints and more: it was a delight to see these ladies display their sartorial proficiency.

ARJAN BAJWA MY RECOMMENDATIONS
THE BACKSTORY “San Fran has always been a special place—I have a lot of family and friends there, and I visit it often, but each time I go, it’s a new experience. Bay Area and Tri Valley are my favourite places to chill at when there. The best part is the weather: so inviting, all year round!”
DO TRY MY RECENT FAVOURITE SAN FRANCISCO, USA
“Peet’s Coffee! You can’t go to San Francisco and not have it. Also, clam chowder at Pier 39. It’s amazing!”
“I’m training to be a pilot and fly as a hobby. So one of my favourite things to do in SF is go to the Livermore airport and fly around. If you’re passionate about planes too, do go there. The Livermore Outlets is also a great place to shop. The area is also home to some great vineyards, so you can enjoy wining and dining. Other than that, do visit the Bay Bridge: it’s an engineering marvel; visit Pier 39 marina for its liveliness, abuzz with performances, 3-D rides, eating joints etc; watch an NFL game; take a tour of the Alcatraz jails; if you’re an outdoorsy person, trek to the Twin Peaks and see the city spread out like a carpet below you; if you want to party, Santana Row is your place. One spot that not too many people know about is the intersection of Haight and Ashbury streets: this is where the hippie movement originated. Do visit this neigbourhood and soak in the vibe.”
HOT GUYS THAT TRAVEL Four famous dudes dish out some deets on their favourite holiday destinations— all the fun, insider’s stuff you should know before you get packing, too. By Humra Afroz Khan
ABBOT KINNEY BOULEVARD
THE BACKSTORY
PRATEIK BABBAR MY RECOMMENDATIONS “Eat, eat, and eat again...then eat some more, till you can’t move. I’m serious. That was literally my favourite thing to do there. Do try the food market in Abbot Kinney Boulevard and Egg Slut at Broadway. You gotta keep walking around and exploring the city till you find your own unique places. When not eating, ride a bicycle across Venice Beach and Santa Monica; make a pit stop and crush a workout at Muscle Beach; oh yeah, rent a super car, and go for a private yacht party. There’s a little bit of everything for everybody!”

COSMOPOLITAN DECEMBER 2019
“This was my first holiday after Sanya [Sagar] and I got married earlier this year, as well as the first time I was travelling to LA. But what made it even more special was that Sanya became my tour guide...she’s been there before, and she took me to all the hot joints. Thanks to her, it was an absolute party!”
WHY I CHOSE IT “After we got married, I got really busy with work, shooting for multiple projects for almost a year. And then, suddenly, I had three weeks off until my next shoot. That was it—I grabbed the opportunity and booked Sanya and myself on our first holiday as husband and wife.”

MY RECENT FAVOURITE LOS ANGELES, USA

KARAN SINGH GROVER
ZURICH, SWITZERLAND ZURICH
MY RECOMMENDATIONS THE BACKSTORY “I had to be in Zurich for a shoot, so it was kind of pre-decided for me. But I’m glad it happened, I loved it. It’s a beautiful country. And while the shoot was a lot of fun, too, what made the place even more special is that they have the longest days in the world, which was great for me, because I love being out in the sun!”
PRO TIP “Late September to early October is a good time to visit. Be prepared for any kind of weather, though, due to all the climate change that’s happening. When we went, it was, surprisingly, very, very hot; almost 39 degrees...the same weather as Mumbai!”
ALSO VISIT “If you’re visiting Switzerland, you should definitely check out Interlaken. It’s great for paragliding. And do not miss Jungfraujoch: it’s a fairy tale! It’s a saddle in the Bernese Alps—a huge mountain that’s all-white, offering some mesmerising, panoramic views!”

MY RECENT FAVOURITE
MY RECOMMENDATIONS
ST. MORITZ, SWITZERLAND
“St. Moritz is a small town with all the best amenities. And anywhere you look, the scenery is breathtaking! My most favourite thing was to go up the mountains and ski. But what few people know is that it also has some amazing restaurants! Do visit the Badrutt’s Palace Hotel, it has many cuisines on offer, and some really nice lounges.”
THE BACKSTORY “I wanted to start teaching my son Ahil how to ski... and learn myself, too. A lot of people had told us that St. Moritz is one of the best places to learn at—it’s very safe. So we decided to go there.” ST. MORITZ
PRO TIP “Visit between December to February, that’s the best time to go there. And stay warm throughout—at night it goes as low -20 degrees; but even during the day, don’t be fooled by the sunlight—it’ll still be freezing. Also, don’t take too many warm clothes—the place has a number of handy options that you can source from, so go there and pick up thermals and other stuff.”

“Zurich has really fresh air, so do make use of it and do all the outdoor activities you possibly can—walking, hiking, paragliding... You can even take a speedboat and take in the views. There’s a lot to do there, so make sure you spend as little time indoors as you can. There are many other sight-seeing options, too—the architecture, the way they’ve built the city, the small lanes lined with shops, the markets, etc, are all gorgeous! Must. Visit. For. Sure.”

Cosmo: Tell us about Reebok’s new concept store, Fit Hub 3.0... Malaika Arora: “It’s the first of its kind in the country! That’s what the store offers: a unique shopping experience for any fitness enthusiast.”
In town to launch Reebok’s new concept store, Fit Hub 3.0, Malaika Arora spilled the tea to Cosmo on fitness, beauty, fashion, and a few other secrets... thrice a week. with me, because they assume if you’re fit, you probably don’t eat. Which is ridiculous.” C: If you had to make one fitness-y confession to Cosmo, what would it be? MA: “That I eat desserts every single day of my life! In fact, after both my meals! Thankfully, these days, there are some amazing, healthy options available, so you don’t have to go crazy on sugar. And they taste just as good. I love cookies—all kinds, especially the gooey, chocolate-y ones. If you were to rummage through my bag right now, you’ll Q find some in there!”
By: HUMRA AFROZ KHAN
C: You’re a fitness enthusiast, too. What’s your workout routine like? MA: “The most important thing for me is to just get up in the morning and go out. I encourage people to make time for themselves and engage in a fitness activity. That tends to be the biggest challenge for most people. If you can incorporate that in your daily life, half the battle is won. Next is what you do in your fitness routine—and the choices are endless. For me, it’s a little bit of everything: I practise yoga every day, cardio twice a week, and Pilates
(STILL) OUR ULTIMATE PARTY ICON
CARRIE BRADSHAW We decode her top looks that will see you through this party season (or the next, and the one after...).
THE SEX BOMB DRESS Carrie Bradshaw knew it in the ’90s that sequins will sparkle forever. A blingy number is still the Ultimate Party Dress because it makes you look sexy with minimal effort. Pair with equally sexy shoes and throw on a classic black coat for balance. PYJAMAS, BUT MAKE IT COUTURE Carrie went out on New Year’s Eve in her actual pyjamas, but upped the ante with luxe details. Luckily for you, silk pyjama suits are now an acceptable party look. Take cues from this look and add accents like a blingy cap, embellished bag, pearl string(s), and booties to take your basic outfit up a notch.
THE DESK-TODINNER LOOK Pencil skirts might be a work staple, but they work wonderfully well for sunny brunches, too. And Carrie knows a thing or two about sprucing up the mundane. Case in point: the bright overcoat and even brighter jewelled pumps. While the tiara might be a bit much, you can always replace it with an embellished hairband.
THE PERFECT MIX A T-shirt with a couture skirt—Carrie made it happen! A billowy, floorlength skirt can look over-the-top, and a plain tee balances it well— and also lets the right piece shine. Plus, this look transitions from day-to-night perfectly.
MATCH IT OR CLASH IT This print-on-print look is an elegant option that works for any kind of soirée. What we’re especially digging is how THE STATEMENT-MAKING DETAIL Carrie has accessorised it. The Okay, we get that you might not always be dressed black belt and shoes work as a to the nines (or even feel like making an effort palate cleanser in a print-heavy sometimes). For times like those, elevate a plain ol‘ dress by adding that one accessory that’s truly *extra*. look, balancing the grown-up feels with their grunge vibe. Perhaps a gigantic brooch (like the floral detail seen Plus, that look-at-me bag is a on Carrie’s), an embellished belt, or OTT jewellery... great conversation starter. anything that adds edge to a simple garment.
GO BIG OR GO HOME Carrie’s bright-AF look is a great example of how a bold piece is a good way to stay away from the clichéd monochrome palette. Even better if you nail it in the ‘pride’ colours.
MEGHNA SHARMA
PINK FLING Carrie knew it well that opting for a classic silhouette like a coat dress in an unusual colour (anything other than black, basically) will make heads turn. This is a great option for when you want to make an impact, but curb the sexiness. Lift this look with a glowing face and fierce hairdo.

FASHION IS NOW FLUID These six designers are blurring the lines between men and women’s clothing with their gender-fluid concepts. By Sreeparna Mazumder Kallol Datta
Kallol Datta 1955
“Gender-fluid fashion is a crude, rudimentary, and myopic term coined to indulge the queer community. Our industry has deep-rooted misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, and classism. Designers think that putting a man in a sari or a woman in a tuxedo is gender fluid. It’s such a dangerous and irresponsible way of viewing fluidity in identity. The moment you start treating androgyny, gender fluidity, and sexlessness as a trend, you’ve lost the plot. My clothes are neither intimidating, nor are they uninviting. The shapes and silhouettes are sexless. I don’t ascribe a gender to them. They’re just languid, distorted fabric columns. I don’t use sex as a currency in design...there’s no acknowledgement of gender. However, with the addition of colour and construction details, the form might get ‘gendered’, but that’s on the consumer...not me. Over the years, several people have embraced these forms, and it has been a wonderful experience.”

“Gender fluid fashion isn’t a new concept. In his 1984 collection, And God Created Man, designer Jean Paul Gaultier reinterpreted the man skirt. Alessandro Michele, Creative Director of Gucci, has been promoting androgyny by sending men in pussy-bow blouses and ruffles down the runway. He even featured Hari Nef, an American actor and transgender woman, in the label’s Bloom collection. In Scotland, the traditional men’s attire includes a skirt. Back home, unstitched lengths of fabric are draped as a sari or dhoti to suit the wearer’s needs. So, rigid gender norms came into the picture post modernisation of society and religion. However, we’re living in an unprecedented period of gender upheaval, where the traditional lines of what constitutes as men’s and women’s clothes are being blended, blurred, and even reimagined altogether. In fact, today’s fixation with fluidity is more substantial and politically engaged. In short, it’s an exciting time, and designers should participate in the change enthusiastically.”

“People have always expressed themselves through their clothes, without paying heed to how they are ‘meant’ to be worn. So, androgyny, cross-dressing, and gender fluidity has been around for a while, but it’s only now that the dialogue around them has started. While it’s important to make them a part of mainstream discourse, no-one should be labelled. Nobody has the right to put people into boxes marked ‘normal’ or ‘quirky’. Because it’s not necessary for everyone to have the same normal. Genderfluid fashion, after all, is all about expressing your individuality, being free and comfortable in your skin, and having fun without being tagged.” DECEMBER 2019 COSMOPOLITAN

“One of the biggest issues with gender-fluid fashion is that, in order to move away from stereotypes, we’re creating new ones. We have preconceived notions that a man wearing a sari or a woman sporting a tuxedo is gender fluid. Why do we have to put labels? Everyone should have the freedom to wear what they want, without having to explain their choices to the world. For instance, if I choose to wear a sari or a skirt, I shouldn’t have to make statements—it’s my fundamental right. That’s where we’re stuck today, we need to normalise gender fluid fashion. As a society, we’ve had a regressive mindset for centuries. We’ve defined gender roles, wherein men donned ‘athletic clothes’ because they’d go out to work, whereas women wore ‘saris/skirts’ as they stayed indoors. But today, everyone’s sharing the same workspaces, so why should their sartorial choices create a distinction?” says Pranav Mishra.
Anaam
“When I started out, circa 2013, I had to explain that my brand doesn’t cater just to the LGBTQIA+ community...it’s for everyone. Luckily, things have changed. Today, my consumers are more educated and they know what to expect from my label. Also, with celebrities like Ranveer Singh wearing a skirt or Rhea Kapoor sporting a pantsuit, people are finally waking up to gender-fluid fashion. However, with my AW19 collection, Arukh, (meaning directionless), I’m trying to move beyond gender fluidity. I have eliminated tags that tell you which part of a garment goes behind your neck or hips. You can use your imagination to style them the way you want to. Some of the pieces can even be worn two ways. For instance, my favourite piece is the ‘jackirt’, which is basically a jacket that can also be worn as a skirt. We’re also experimenting with clothes that have a boat neck in the back, and a deep neck on the front. The idea is to create designs that are fluid, and don’t come with or attach any labels.”
Sumiran Kabir Sharma
Akshat Bansal
Bloni
“There are two issues when it comes to gender-fluid fashion. First, a lot of people don’t know that it promotes sustainability. For instance, my gender-fluid clothes follow a one-size-fits-all policy. They can be worn by people belonging to different size and gender groups. Each garment is strategically constructed in a way that the shape, silhouette, or length suits all body types. This way, when I supply to stores, I don’t have to put up size-based racks. You can’t have a conversation about inclusivity in non-binary fashion without standardising shapes and sizes. Second, I often find straight men looking at my creations and saying, ‘Hey, this is for the gay category, right?’ or ‘I won’t wear women’s clothes!’. I get that a lot, thanks to homophobia. It’s very important for people to understand that gender fluid clothes are for everyone.”

As our special series—the diary of an Indian lesbian— comes to an end, our columnist leaves us with some final musings...
“I
didn’t know what I was excited about more. That I was visiting a lesbian bar for the first time, or that I was on a date with a woman who I had met on the Guardian Soulmates dating website. I had just moved to London in 2011, and was still finding my way around the city and my sexual orientation. While I remember very little about my date, the memory of being in a space for girls, run by girls, was both thrilling and assuring. The next day, I called my friend, a lesbian Londoner, to relive my experience. Five minutes into my prattling, she interrupted, ‘But, how did the date go?’. At that exact moment, I realised how naïve I must sound.

parents would attend the ceremony. They’re okay with my preference as long as they don’t have to speak or participate in my decision. And every decision of mine, big or small, is made ensuring that I don’t invite too much attention. Not take a byline with this column, for instance...my last name belongs to my parents. For them, it’s not so much about shame, but a deep-seated reluctance towards adjusting their lifestyle to who their daughter is: a lesbian. While I respect their hesitation, it’s also my crushing truth, which I live with grudgingly each day. In these moments I remind myself of the lines I read in Elizabeth Gilbert’s memoir, Eat, Love And Pray: ‘It’s still two human beings trying to get along, so it’s going to be complicated. And love is always complicated.’ And I happen to love another woman. Today, I’m signing off, but before I go, I’d like to thank Cosmopolitan for allocating a space for my little column. As I continue to navigate through the heartache and joy of my chosen sexual identity, and living in a country that holds a schizophrenic stance towards my individual rights, these last few months have been a pleasure to share my escapades with you, dear readers. Thank Q you for stopping by on this page.”

OUR MONTHLY COLUMN!
I was a ‘late-blooming lesbian’, who was slipping into a new identity but had no clue about its rules of engagement— what is the right etiquette when you ask someone out, who holds the door, who pays the bill, who makes the first move, what happens in bed, where do lesbians hangout, what do they talk about... ‘Come over, I’ll lend you my set of The L Word. It might help you with some answers,’ my friend offered. I binge-watched the lesbian drama—six seasons, 70 episodes—over the next six days. About a close-knit group of lesbian friends in LA, the show tackled it all through its wildly varying stories and then some. Did it change my life? Um, not really, but I did discover myself through the show’s characters. The L Word had become a necessary rite of passage for the community, and after watching it, I felt like I was part of the Sapphic sorority...I felt validated, seen. ‘Did you know The L Word is returning with a brand new series on December 8? We have to watch it together!’ my partner announced the news over dinner recently, and a strange sense of reckoning came over me. As if life had come a full circle. The show had ended in 2009, around the same time that my life, as I know and live it today, had begun. An adventurous personal journey that stretches a span of a decade of selfquestioning; exhausting emotional struggles; and heartbreaking chapters of coming out to myself, to my parents, to my friends. I am not the person today who’d reveal her authentic self only in the presence of co-lesbians or at gay bars. I’m a full-time lesbian, in a fulltime same-sex relationship, and that, for me, is liberating. The great thing about coming out in your mid-30s is that you’ve already been through the rough-and-tumble wringer of digging (into) your sexuality; you know whose lips you like kissing, which gender you prefer going to bed with, and who makes your soul blush. And there’s no going back. But being honest carries a hefty price tag, I’ve learnt. If tomorrow, my partner and I decide to get married, I’m not absolutely sure my

ART BEYOND BORDERS
Adding a new dimension to their creative repertoire, designers Shivan Bhatiya and Narresh Kukreja recently collaborated with home decor and furniture brand, Bent Chair, for an exclusive collection. Featuring 13 key products, including a sofa and a coffee table in two sizes—the range is a modernist, organic perspective, with recreated tribal influences from the Shivan & Narresh Patu Series. “Designing furniture allowed us to explore a new territory, not only in terms of design, but also audience and price points,” the duo told Cosmo. “It gave a new dimension to our design perspective, and blended the two universes.”
Every season, this winter staple comes alive in new versions and styles. We’ve zeroed in on the ones your wardrobe needs RN. Over-the-Knee: AW19 has upped the ante. Pair ’em with minis or skinny jeans to tower over everyone else. Square-Toe: A clever punctuation that can take any look from *yawn* to glam. Slouchy: Striking, but not OTT, this one’s piping hot RN, and goes with literally everything! Ruched, hard, sculpted, puffed or pitched, the AW19 catwalks were all about dresses, shirts, blouses, even outerwear likes coats and jackets shouldering new(er), stronger style responsibilities. Richard Quinn and Louis Vuitton toughened up feminine silhouettes with exaggerated shoulders, while Givenchy turned the bold pantsuit into a bad-*ss version with sculpted shoulders. “Glitter is so big, and I don’t think it’s ever going out of style. Every season, I see it being used by backstage pros in one way or another. While models at Rodarte sported glitter-decked eyes and lips in bright colours, I felt going with a pale pink frosted mouth and lids was a more wearable take on the trend—one which works for both day and night.”

DEBASREE BANERJEE @debasreee “There was a time pink was reserved for summer months only. But I was thrilled to see this shade being used in all its glory at various shows this season. I love all things neon, and that’s why I decided to try out the two-toned eye look. My top tip: work on your eyes first and then apply foundation— this way you can clean up any shadow that ends up on your cheeks or face.”

COSMOPOLITAN DECEMBER 2019
Colour-blocked eyes got a whole new meaning this season. Pro tip: OD on the highlighter for an ethereal vibe.
When going for a look this bright, keep the rest of the face minimal.
it’s the most effortless way to channel easy glamour. And thankfully, it’s also a big trend this season. While the artists at Eckhaus Latta worked with two contrasting shades, I decided to go with a single hue for my look. If applying the shadow till your brows is too much for you, just line your lower lids with the same shade and apply a thin black liner on the upper lids, to make the shade pop a little.”

An Insider’s Guide to Getting
THE BEST BLUSH OF YOUR LIFE Game-changing hacks from celebrity make-up artist and Maybelline New York US Brand Ambassador Jenna Kristina.
SCOOT
ALL OVER
A crazy-pretty flush is sorta about your whole face. Sweeping some blush over your eyelids, down the bridge of your nose, and across your lips is a sexy 10-second glow-up.
IT MAKE
UP
MATTE
AN INCH
Apply blush where you typically put highlighter, then buff it down towards your cheeks’ hollows for a lifting effect that wakes your face right-TF up.
GO
DO A COLOUR DUO
Fact: two hues look more attractive (and natural) than one. First, dust on a soft shade that’s similar to how you’d look if you *actually* blushed. Then, layer a brighter pink on top in the centre.
Oils from your moisturiser or foundation can cause blush to separate—as in, become patchy by mid-day. This you? Look for oil-free products, or use an oil-free mattifying primer before getting your blush on.
BRUSH
Tap blush onto your skin with a fluffy make-up brush instead of sweeping. Then wipe the brush with a damp paper towel for blending.
REVERSE IT
Apply your blush before your foundation. Melting the two together will give you a lit-fromwithin glow.
