River tees cotherstone to barnard castle

Page 1

Access from the Football Field. Do not park on this. Carry down to the river; do not drive down the narrow path. This is where the Balder (Grade 3) enters the Tees.

This section of river is the best grade 2 in England. It has continually interesting rapids which are mainly technical and not shingle. The only 2 rapids of concern are marked here. Enjoy!!

Egress is possible above the Weir just upstream of the tributary on river right just after the foot bridge. Carry boats via the road to the car park/picnic site. If you paddle the weir avoid the centre at all costs and ensure the sides are safe. If in doubt use the egress above. Alternative egress 200m beyond the bridge, river right, on the flat section at some steps. Good parking on the road above

River Tees Cotherstone to Barnard Castle (Grade 2)

Run just right of the island. Chunky rapid with rocks. A tree hangs in the water at the bottom, but if the eddy river right is used this is easily avoided.

A Reef across the whole river here can produce a real hazard. Run it towards hard right. Swimmers need rescuing from the boat as the water pushes up against the right wall.
