Creative Brief Background: Based in Seattle Washington, MadMan Clothing Co. was founded by a local Graphic Designer in order to promote his own clothing line, as well as help support other local graphic designers and artists. Both the on location and online stores carry a wide variety of screen printed merchandise designed by Greg Vinson (founder of MadMan Industries) and merchandise designed by other local independent or freelance designers. MadMan also carries and displays the artwork of several different street artists around Seattle. Target Audience: The Primary audience would be youth as well as young men and women ranging from ages 15-25 that share a common interest in graphic design, art, city life, etc. The target audience will mostly likely consist of young artists that are attracted by modern street art and graphic design as well as aspiring graphic designers that are trying to advance in their craft and promote themselves as professionals. Secondary Audience will include all other audiences under the age of 15 and over 25. Objectives: The main idea behind MadMan Clothing Co. is to work with and support local artists and graphic designers by adevertising and selling their art or other merchandise in our store. Graphic designers of all ages can submit their raw files to MadMan for the chance to have their designs printed on either vinyl stickers, tshirts, hats, and/or hoodies. MadMan also tries to support the local street art scene by selling and displaying a wide variety of artwork both on site and online. The Message/Tone: Designers and artists supporting each other since no one else will! We want to reach out to and attract local graphic designers/street artists in attempts to help support their passion and/or carreers in a creative and fun way that can also make money. Media: Media that would be used to achieve this would be through all different types of cmyk print, screen printing, digital graphics online, etc. Printed paper shopping bags, promotional postcards, posters, flyers, etc around the on site location. Creative Considerations: MadMan Clothing Co. is also considering publishing a Zine that can be purchased for very cheap and it includes some tips/tricks for Graphic Designers and all types of artwork from local Seattle artists including sketchbook/blackbook sneak peaks. The Deadline and/or Other Requirements: Deadline Week 11 March 19th, 2013. The finished product must be online as well as mobile and must be printed and bound by March 19th @ 1:00pm

threadless overall review Based out of Chicago Illinois, Threadless has a single store location and warehouse but most of their business is through their website, threadless. com. Their website is well designed, easy for anyone to navigate, and they accept submissions for merchandise graphics from graphic designers all over the world. In order to uphold their reputation, Threadless has a strict list of requirements for all submissions but has no restrictions as to placement or graphic size which seems to be a major advantage over some of their other competitors. Through their website you aren’t able to find much information about the artists behind the designs except if the designer takes the time to sign up and create a profile on their built in social network.

Big Cartel overall review This online only business is a website that allows artists and designers to host an online store of their own for a monthly renters fee. It’s a great place for people to sell all kinds of handcrafted items including jewelry, canvases, cards, stickers, tshirts, etc. It is a site quite similar to the more commonly know etsy.com but has a cleaner and more professional look to it. It is definitely a great place for more of a crafty based audience but the overall navigation design is a little bit confusing at first until you explore around the site a little bit. Big Cartel might be a small online competitor, it seems as though they have a much more open and general target audience.
5
zazzle Overall Review The overall design of Zazzle.com makes it quick and easy for users to understand the information being presented, as well as navigate through it all. They create and sell a wide variety of customizable merchandise of generally good quality for a very affordable price but there are also some design restrictions. Zazzle only allows users to design on a small designated area on both the chest and the back of the shirt. This greatly limits the designers when it comes to creating the merchandise they envisioned. Their website is also very commercial and cheap feeling making customers doubt whether or not their designs will be printed appropriately and since everything is online, there is no way to tell what they are going to get.

Joel Phillips
Joel Phillips My name is Joel Phillips and I am a 26 year old Graphic Designer for MadMan Clothing Company. I was born and raised in Southern California, Orange County to be specific, and ended up moving to Seattle about 3 years ago. After graduating with my Bachelors Degree from the Art Institute of Seattle I decided to work as a freelance designer and after about 2 months of searching for work, I dropped by the shop and met Greg, showed him some of my work, and started working with him pretty much ever since. Being able to work with Greg and sell my designs through MadMan has been an awesome opportunity for me and has definitely helped me to set my roots and hopefully start getting a solid career going.
